hyperbole and a half: unfortunate situations, flawed coping mechanisms, mayhem, and other things that happened

It's not grammatically acceptable but i don't care.
I'm just so damn happy she's alive and well and that this book is actually happening!
We love you Allie.

A tribute to Ralph Steadman.

the rose

'The spinning vortex of Saturn's north polar storm resembles a deep red rose of giant proportions surrounded by green foliage in this false-color image from NASA's Cassini spacecraft. Measurements have sized the eye at a staggering 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) across with cloud speeds as fast as 330 miles per hour (150 meters per second).

This image is among the first sunlit views of Saturn's north pole captured by Cassini's imaging cameras. When the spacecraft arrived in the Saturnian system in 2004, it was northern winter and the north pole was in darkness. Saturn's north pole was last imaged under sunlight by NASA's Voyager 2 in 1981; however, the observation geometry did not allow for detailed views of the poles. Consequently, it is not known how long this newly discovered north-polar hurricane has been active.

The images were taken with the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera on Nov. 27, 2012, using a combination of spectral filters sensitive to wavelengths of near-infrared light. The images filtered at 890 nanometers are projected as blue. The images filtered at 728 nanometers are projected as green, and images filtered at 752 nanometers are projected as red. In this scheme, red indicates low clouds and green indicates high ones.

The view was acquired at a distance of approximately 261,000 miles (419,000 kilometers) from Saturn and at a sun-Saturn-spacecraft, or phase, angle of 94 degrees. Image scale is 1 mile (2 kilometers) per pixel. The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras were designed, developed and assembled at JPL. The imaging operations center is based at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colo.'

Space is cool.

I realise i just posted a song from Ultramarine but it's so damn good i thought it deserved a full album post.

Today i got a new number for various annoying reasons and whilst clearing out my photo album before the number change, i came across this photo i took of my cat, Misty.
I think i was trying to remove her from her penthouse suite atop the lofty heights of the refrigerator.
She looks like she wanted to eat my face off.
She made this face a lot.
I miss her.
And her psychotic stare.

Some other stuff from the depths of my geriatric mobile phone:
A couple winters ago.
When i get bored in the car, i take pointless scenic photos.
Hey look, when i was an artist.
The result of said artistry.
The angles are actually all accurate, i just can't take a decent photograph to save my shaky-pawed life.
 My 25th birthday cake.
Girlier than i've ever been in my life.
And it made me sick.
In an excellent way.
My sisters brought it to me in bed.
That was pretty sweet.
And yes, you are seeing a razor.
I think i dropped it, broke it and was hiding the evidence badly.
Moving on.
My beautiful Cedar Vans.
Summer, hurry the frak up so i can wear them again.
I'm tired of being cold.

Do i win the 'most pointless blog post of the day' award?

My favourite sports movie?
The outstanding soundtrack is just a bonus.

the strain

Because i'm completely unaware of the world around me, i only just found out that Guillermo Del Toro is adapting The Strain into a tv series with fellow writer, Chuck Hogan.
Uh, best news i've heard all day?
You bet.
I don't know how i feel about his leading man, however.
This just isn't how i pictured Dr. Ephraim Goodweather.
But i'll give Del Toro the benefit of the doubt.
I do, after all kind of worship the filmy ground he walks on.
Which is why i can completely get behind Kevin Durand as Vasiliy Fet, a rat exterminator with a build that could flatten you just by looking at it and a talent for maiming the undead.
Yeah, Durand about fits the bill.
I may be biased however, due to my love for him since the days of Joshua in Dark Angel and his subsequent appearances in shows such as Dead Like Me and American Dad.
Not to mention when he turns up in movies i like:

Mystery Alaska
3:10 to Yuma
Real Steel
(I know. Be quiet)

That's all the casting that's been made official to date and so far, so good.
Now i hope they don't mess up the rest.
Especially Goodweather's son, Zack.
No brats with Bieber haircuts, please?
I don't think i could stand an entire series of another Carl-type actor.
I'd rather get bitten, thanks.

A decent list of role-fillers lies here.
I am totally on board with Viggo Mortensen as Ephraim.
To me, that makes far more sense.
Just saying.

If you're interested, here are some more potentially awesome things Del Toro is getting up to at this very second:

Strike that.
He's 14 days younger than me.
