star trek beyond

May 26, 2016

Come on, Kirk, do us proud.

thatdude said...

This actually looks really good, Into Darkness was such a dissapointment whereas Star Trek was brilliant.
Now looking forward to this.

Louise Boyd said...

Y'know, Into Darkness didn't bother me as much as it did everyone else. It's like Thor: The Dark World, everybody was up in arms about how mediocre it was but meh, i mostly enjoyed it. Neither are as good as their predecessors but i'm starting to think that's just the rule of the franchise. Especially in Star Trek's case. I am enjoying the evolution of Chris Pine's hair though, I don't think we're at the full Kirk yet but maybe the next movie?

thatdude said...

maybe, or it will go past kirk to a massive mop.
I don't really remember Thor 2, it was a bit boring.

Louise Boyd said...

Just as long as it doesn't descend into Trump levels of hairy badness, i'm not quite sure Chris Pine's head deserves such a fate.

thatdude said...

Hahahaha I don't think it will go there, to be honest I don't know if they will do any more of these Star Trek films after this one, suppose it depends on how well it does at the box office.

Louise Boyd said...

I'm going to guess not very well, not with Justin Lin at the helm. I know the F&F movies are enjoyable fluff but come on, a quality director he is not and you need someone of caliber to take Star Trek of all things and make it awesome. Tell me i'm wrong.

Louise Boyd said...

*calibre

Bad form, me being Scottish and all.

thatdude said...

Star Trek can be enjoyable fluff too if done right. I think the trailer looks enjoyable enough so will need to see it to give my full thoughts.

Louise Boyd said...

Well, this girl's not paying an obscene amount to see it at the cinema so you report back and i'll tell you what i think come Christmas time...

thatdude said...

What will you pay the money too see in the cinema then?

Louise Boyd said...

If i'd had my head out of my ass and paid more attention then... Deadpool, for sure. And Rogue One. And if they ever show Mad Max: Fury Road again then no power in the 'verse could stop me seeing it.

thatdude said...

Deadpool and Mad Max were both excellent movies, both really good in the cinema too.
You know what the chain of command is? its the chain I beat you with so you know whos in rutting command.

Louise Boyd said...

"Time for some thrilling heroics."

Ack, you're killing me with your taste in tv/movies/comics. I'm pretty certain Mal's the main contributor to my overuse of the word 'brainpan'.

thatdude said...

I do use 'shiny' a lot but only a close few friends get it.

Killing you in a good way or a bad way? I'm guessing good way.

Louise Boyd said...

Definitely good. I don't think you've missed a reference yet and that's almost unheard of when it comes to me. Sounds arrogant. It's not. I just watch too much tv and don't socialise.

I've got my fingers crossed that now Castle's been cancelled that Fillion can get back to doing something i actually want to watch. Please, oh please.

thatdude said...

I know far too much about pop culture, I really should use my brain for the betterment of mankind but I don't, I just collect quotes, scenes and songs from movies, TV, Games and comics...

I never did watch Castle but I doubt that now it's done he is going to do anything spectacular.
Although Dr Horribles sing along blog 2 would be most welcome.

I gave up on my hopes of a new Firefly series/movie up a long time ago.

Louise Boyd said...

Controversially, i've never wanted anymore Firefly, i was perfectly content with the movie to round it all off. Sure, i'll never forgive Whedon for killing Wash but we have a longstanding history of him committing unnecessary murder and invoking my wrath, that's just something you gotta deal with in the Whedonverse, but i think if he'd done anymore with Firefly it would have gone the way of all his shows - i still loved them all the bitter end - and that would have sucked. Mal and his band of idiots deserved better than that. I would like Whedon to get back to tv though, i loved the first Avengers movie but i miss his story arcs being played out over several episodes instead of a 2 hour movie.

thatdude said...

Not even a mention of Dr Horrible....

I usually lose interest in a Whedon show around season 4, I think he is best suited to shorter seasons and maybe a 5 season run.

but Wash was a leaf on the wind, he could also be terse and was once laconic in flight school.

Louise Boyd said...

Okay, time to fess up, i haven't actually seen Dr Horrible yet... it's the one Whedon creation i've yet to plunder and the shame is killing me! But apparently my shame doesn't outweigh my laziness soooooo what you gonna do?

thatdude said...

I'm going to grab my copy, run to your house, knock your door and force you to watch it.
It's terribly good.
And the songs are amazing.

Louise Boyd said...

Yeesh, pushy much? You'll have to break my door down because i'm not shelling out 20 quid to watch it. That's what Birthday Lists are for 0_0

thatdude said...

Why would I charge you £20 to watch it?
I'm not a rental service.

Louise Boyd said...

I sometimes think i should be, what with the amount of stuff i'm hoarding =/

It's £20 to buy from Amazon and i'm too cheap for that. I'll plunder eBay, see what damage i can do.

thatdude said...

What the shit-biscuit?!? I'm sure I picked it up for a shiny fiver in HMV. It's not rare so shouldn't be £20, I wouldn't even pay that for a boxset.

Louise Boyd said...

Extortionate, right? Is it worth it though? Is that a truly dumb question? I think it might be.

thatdude said...

Why don't you just download it and see if you like it before paying that for it.
I did find it on Ebay for £15 on BluRay so not terrible but it was a bloody web series made into a movie, not exactly £15 worth.

It is excellent though.

thatdude said...

Scratch that the whole movie is on YouTube for free, watch it there first.

Louise Boyd said...

I always forget about YouTube! Bless illegal uploads. Will i have the songs stuck in my head for days? Like when i watch The Mighty Boosh?

thatdude said...

More than that because the songs are really cute and not messed up like The Mighty Boosh.

I can't wait until you watch it so I can hear what you think.

Louise Boyd said...

Be warned, if it's as good as you say then i'll either not be able to find the words to describe how awesome it is or i'll not shut up for at least week. You've been warned.

I'm so looking forward to see NPH as Count Olaf. I was dubious to begin with but after seeing him in full Olaf makeup, i'm totally sold. Fingers crossed they don't cast hideous children.

thatdude said...

You won't be able to find the time to find the words to...
(Once you see it that line will make sense)
I watched it again twice at the weekend.
It's only as long as a basic TV show.

Yeah I think he will be better than Jim Carrey.
Bad kid actors can quickly ruin my day.

Louise Boyd said...

I will get around to watching it, i'm just horrible at doing anything anybody tells me to do. I'm lazily rebellious in that manner.

I really liked Carrey as Olaf. I haven't read the books so maybe he was shit but as a first timer to the series i thought he was on top form but yeah, NPH will probably be better. I'm not sure why, maybe because he's slightly less... manic?

I think it's one of my favourite things to see a loveable child actor, it happens so rarely.
Examples of awesome movie kids:

The kid from Looper
The kid from Little Miss Sunshine
Adam from The Goldbergs
The kid from St. Vincent
The kid from Jerry Maguire who is frightening muscly these days
All of The Goonies
Judd Apatow's kids from Knocked Up
Thora Birch in Hocus Pocus

thatdude said...

Yeah Carrey was slightly too manic, I read one of the books a long time ago and didn't imagine Olaf to be as animated.

I think you hit the kids on the head with a nail...
No hit the nail on the head.

I agree with all those kids.
Most time kids are shit in films and really let them down.

Louise Boyd said...

It's probably not normal to want to bludgeon small children just because they're such bad actors. And yet...

thatdude said...

I think it's a natural reaction when you are a lover of film.
