Things i've enjoyed in the month of May:

The character reveal of Nina being in and having POV narration in the next chapter of the Grishaverse:
As much as i desperately want more time with the rest of the Dregs, i'll happily take Nina sparring with Nikolai aboard the Volkvolny.

Sasha Sloan's sad girl EP:

Finally having my grubby mitts on this beautiful creation:
I am a puddle.
Sarah J. Maas took a quiet moment for us to just be with Feyre and Rhys.
No battles.
No death.
No being apart.
Just living.
And it was wonderful.
And it hurt.
I am distraught and destroyed.
I'll miss them eternally.
Thank you for the goodbye, our High Lady.
And thank you for what's to come.

One small thing, however...

Ugh. Well, until that's answered...
Let the grand re-read commence.
...
I waited six months.
Half a year of sneaking back to practically inhale favourite passages.
Slogging my way through bland in comparison Fae-based novels; helplessly wishing they were ACoTaR/MaF/WaR instead.
Discovering a fair few new ships to wreck my fragile little heart but knowing they'll never quite be Feysand.
...
I waited.
Because i knew once i'd read Frost and Starlight i'd be a mess and need to go back to where it all started.
I'd still be a mess but a sated, soppy mess.
The best kind.
But now it's time.
Expect grotesque sobbing.

Bonus: Wings and Embers. A Nessian short set during A Court of Mist and Fury (my personal favourite), exclusive to the Target edition.
Publisher exclusives kind of bum me out. Just let everyone have the damn story.
But thank the Internet for sharing the goods with us foreigners.

.............................................

Receiving my limited edition Frost and Starlight pin:

Having something with the Night Court's insignia makes me feel far too warm and fluffy inside.
I should feel embarrassed, right?
...

.............................................

Yet more Sarah J. Maas goodness:

I swear that whatever potential deity's playing with us for shits and giggles, they created Maas purely to rip my book-loving heart to pieces.
...
And thank fuck for that.

.............................................

Keeping this alive since Easter:

No small feat for a plant killer like myself.
Just one thing though... ask me what kind of plant it is?
...
Update: asked the green-thumbed witches of the family and apparently this is a Kalanchoe.
It's from the succulent family (sturdy bunch) so there's half a chance i can keep the sucker alive.
...
Only half though...

.............................................

Childish Gambino's This is America.
(I suggest watching the video and then listening to the song sans visuals.
The impact is significantly different but both pack a splintering punch):

He's so fucking clever it pisses me off.
The first time i saw Donald Glover was in Community where he played the most precious of puppies and i was cool with him being just that.
But no.
He had to be multi-fucking-talented.
Writer.
Musician.
Director.
Actor.
Comedian.
...
COME ON?!
How is that even fair?

Also, some clever (possibly sacrilegious) person synched the video to Call My Maybe:

... and it's freakishly perfect.

.............................................

Continuing to be a lurker on eBay to grow my collection of the now defunct Adidas Gazelle OGs:

I'm up to 9 pairs.
Maybe more once this is posted...

... I need help.

.............................................

Ilona Andrews' Magic Bites:

Oh.
Oh my.
I may have fallen a little in love and it isn't the cute kinda love. Nuh uh. It's the devour everything with a rabid look in my eye kind of love.
I didn't even know Urban Fantasy was my thing until earlier this year when i read Robin McKinley's Sunshine and almost fell down with the most confused bout of "what the fuckity fuck? I love you but what the fuck are you? ... Hold me."
After that i went on my usual post book-hangover spree and found a few UF novels to fill the void Sunshine had left me with.
Magic Bites has filled that void.
With gusto.
And foul-language.
And a healthy dose of gore and flirting.

My review went like this:

(only now realising i just described Faith... but Kate's not quite Faith, she's a big old softie who just happens to wield an ancient glowing sword and has zero tolerance for just about everything that moves... but with heart, y'know?)

And my reading progress went like this:

It has everything i want.
A kick-ass heroine who takes no shit but obviously has baggage.
No insta-love (can we ban this already?) but the framework for a relationship in the future (right now we're at the bickering, hate/lust, antagonistic-which-often-leads-to-physical-violence stage and it's giddying to read).
Detailed but not boring world-building with a healthy but not overwhelming use of magic lingo (i honestly can't wait to see what else magic-infused Atlanta has in store for Kate and her band of idiots).
Engaging and lovable side characters with actual personalities.
A whole lot of believably written sass.
(I knew i was a goner when these lines appeared before me:

' "Gotta be tough or dumb to go down into the sewers these days. So, which one are you?"
"I'm not dumb, but if I tell you I'm tough, you'll peg me for a bravo, so I'm going to smile cryptically." I gave him my best cryptic smile. He did not fall down to his feet, kiss my shoes, and promise me the world. I must be getting rusty.')

Well-scripted action scenes that don't skimp on the viscera.
And most importantly: a damn good story.
...
Watch me stalk everything Kate Daniels at your own peril.

.............................................

I've spent months lurking on eBay for Brother Sestra and it finally paid off:

Now to get me an Helena, a Cosima and an Alison.
...
The number of Funko eyeballs staring at me right now is downright unnerving.

.............................................

Monthly dose of this fluffy idiot:

Charlie doesn't do "weather".
Rain: nope.
Sunshine: no way.
Warmth: absolutely fucking not.
Snow: and get those precious jellybeans frostbitten? Bite your tongue.

Speaking of weather:
This pasty female finally got some vitamin D in her bones.

.............................................

Finally busting out my Tearjerker t shirt:

My allegiance is true, unwavering and fits perfectly.

.............................................

Since writing this i've finished the second in the Kate Daniels series, Magic Burns and i'm so far gone it should be embarrassing but... remember those zero fucks i gave earlier?
Consider them ironclad:

My review this time around:

Reading progress:
I know.
I'm horrendous but goddammit, it's just too perfect it's stressing me out...

.............................................

Rewatching Schitt's Creek and being surprised with the 4th season whilst doing so:

Sometimes new shows appear on Netflix and i take one look and think, "nooooooope", which was my initial reaction to Schitt's Creek.
Thank fuck i was bored and took a chance because this weird little monster of a show is now in my top tv shows ever and i have so much love for each character it's nauseating.
It's incredibly Marmitey, so there's every chance you'll hate it but if you don't and it claws its way under your skin the way it did mine, well... i'll take thanks in the form of eternal gratitude or Pop Tarts.
Whatever's easier.

.............................................

Leigh Bardugo being a precious, grumpy Sasquatch whilst waiting for her airport to sort its shit out and answering fan questions:

.............................................

Catching The Perks of Being a Wallflower on Film4 and being reminded once again how infinitely wonderful Cocteau Twins are:
And that i really like/love this movie.
Almost as much as the book.
Almost.

.............................................

Decided to christen these little roundups as my Monthlies.
...
Yeah, you heard.
They can now all be found here and more conveniently in the navigation bar at the top of the page.
