Joao Ruas is showing at Gallery Nucleus in their current group exhibition:

Running from the 13th of April to the 28th.
Unfortunately, this particular gallery is in Alhambra.
...
California.
...
Living in the 'burbs of eastern Scotland really blows sometimes.
But if you happen to be in California at this very moment and by chance read this little, rather inconsequential blog of mine then go, for God's sake, go!

Ruas will be exhibiting with fantastic artists like:

and
who just so happened to produce one of the best graphic novels i own:

The show aims to thwart the idea that drawing is merely a preliminary part of a finished piece of art.
Instead, it means to celebrate the obvious fact - to anyone with a half a brain - that these 'scribbles' possess all the necessary elements to be appreciated as realised, finished and moving pieces of work.

Being a graphite girl, this makes me exceptionally happy.
I fought my way through all levels of artistic schooling having to defend my every pencilled move.
Not everyone is born a painter/sculptor/performer and nor should they be.
Nor should any one of us be discriminated against for expressing ourselves in whatever medium feels the most natural.
So this exhibition feels like a big 'fuck you' to every single person/teacher/tutor who ever told me i wasn't finished because it was and i quote:

 'only a drawing'.

Art institutions of the world, i am at this moment flipping you the bird.
With gusto.
