zumthor

Sometimes watching The Culture Show has its benefits.
Aren't these beautiful?
There is a hallowed soundlessness to Zumthor's architectural work that i can't help but be affected by.
It's the same feeling i get whenever i've had the good fortune to stand under York Minster Cathedral's incredibly detailed and beautiful ceilings.
Not to mention the experience of being surrounded by its universally revered stained glass windows.
It makes you feel infinitesimally small but not unimportant and i like that feeling.

Have you ever noticed the quiet inside these buildings?
It's a specific kind, that i'm sure you've all felt at some point but it's a type i could sit in for hours.
These buildings feel alive with silence, with things unsaid.
The walls creak and the windows whisper.
The gargoyles scowl and the congregation cross paths like ghosts.
I could watch it forever.

I miss it there, i wish it wasn't so far away.

AlunaGeorge were the closing feature of The Culture Show.
Not with this song but i like it better.
So there.
