Happy house renting, Dexterous :)
Don't worry about going incommunicado, just enjoy the house and hanging out with Kerry! Hopefully with dessert on New Year's - was it last year you smashed an entire Tiramisu?

It's taken me two days to feel like a normal person after Christmas. Two days! I haven't even looked at my gifts properly yet *-*
Glad the hot chocolate's living up to expectations, I was worried it was gonna suck! (not my most inventive present giving moment but you're Captain Candyclaws, the day I can't gift you sugar is a sad, sad day).

So, little queen Freya's off to her kingdom, after all. The universe's not a complete dick after all, I suppose :)
I expect any reports on video chat sightings of the spectacular monster!

Dex said...

Just to let you know, Freya is now in the Philippines!

Dex said...

I'm sorry for another quick message, Lilliputty. Freya was collecting snails in the garden and having them race each other :)

Louise Boyd said...

I bet it was the gentlest snail event ever organised, and even the losers were winners.
How is she this cute?

I'm gonna say Happy New Year now because I most likely won't get another chance until the 2nd, so I hope you're having a really nice time with Kerry and there are like, a dozen desserts in your immediate future :)
You know I don't give a crap about NYE, but have a happy one anyway, Fungus ^-^

Ps. Currently deliberating where to hang Aziraphale and Crowley. Super important decision :D

Dex said...

Happy New Year, Lilliputty. I can't say I care much about it either but I had a glass of prosecco (which was disgusting) and some Quality Street (which was much nicer). We will be going home tomorrow although I am a bit worried about driving in this weather!

Louise Boyd said...

Hope you got home okay, Dexterous, and there was more Quality Street in your future. You're absolutely right about Prosecco, it is disgusting. The bubbles are good, but ugh, how is it sharp, bitter, and sweet all at the same time?
I'll stick with my tiny cans of ginger ale, thank you! ← highly recommend these, btw.
I did celebrate the changing of the year with a shot of cider, though. Kind of the perfect amount, if I'm being honest :)
My New Year was pretty much a non event, as per. The fam and I watched Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which I do not recommend. Totally pointless movie, I only laughed once =/ It was courtesy of Michael Keaton doing what he does best, though. Can't fault his performance, the man was born to play a lecherous ghoul.
Did you watch any movies while you were away?

I think we might get snow this weekend :D

Dex said...

Yes, we got home safely. Thank you, Lilliputty :) I just drove very slowly the whole way but there wasn't much traffic so it was okay. It has snowed here quite a bit in the last few days. I hope you do end up getting some this weekend :)

I'm glad you did something to celebrate the new year. I think a shot of cider would be my perfect amount as well :) I would much rather have had a glass of Shloer than prosecco :) Do you ever have ginger ale mixed with something else? Is that a thing people do? :)

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice really isn't something that I would go out of my way to watch, much more so now that you have given your opinion which I always hold in very high regard :) And I definitely wouldn't expect to enjoy anything by Tim Burton these days!

Also, I'm really sorry that I forgot to thank you for the book! Obviously, I was too obsessed with all the hot chocolate but it really does mean a lot to me that you take the time to choose books that you think I will like :)

Dex said...

It really is so cold here at the moment!

Dex said...

I think I will have the chocolate cherry flavour hot chocolate today :)

Louise Boyd said...

Tiny bit of snow landed on the east coast, but not enough to sate my need. It's not getting above 2℃ here, so I'm not expecting any grand dumpings of cold, fluffy water, but I can hope?
As predicted, though, Charlie's not happy about this sudden influx of cold weather. We've not got to the point where he asks out, we open the door (did I ever tell you we sealed off the cat flap pretty much as soon as he moved in because he a) could only figure out how to use it one way, and b) kept bring "friends" in with him? Catching a bat with a bin was not on my bucket list), and he proceeds to stare at the outside like it's an enemy, and turns tail.
Haven't got there yet but, it's coming. Charlie doesn't do weather.

My dad got me a bottle Shloer for Christmas! Totally forgot about it until yesterday but it's still good!
Are you a red grape or a green grape kind of Shloer drinker?
I don't tend to mix ginger ale with anything else, mostly because what would you mix it with other than alcohol? Plus, I just like the flavour; it reminds me of visiting my grandparents in Glasgow when I was little. They always had things we didn't have at home, like Café Noir biscuits, dill crisps, and Orangina. I know the best part about visiting family should be about seeing them but I was always excited about the food :D

Thoughts on the chocolate cherry hot chocolate? Does the cherry actually come through?
You're welcome for the book :) I'm kinda flailing in the dark with mystery novels, it's not really my area unless there's something supernatural involved! But I heard good things about that one, you'll have to tell me if it lives up to the hype ^-^

Dex said...

The snow is now starting to thaw up here. It looks like our weather is going to be pretty much the same for the next week - cold, but not quite cold enough for snow :S At least it makes driving a bit easier!

Am I reading that correctly?! Charlie brought a live bat inside the house that you had to catch with a bin?! I’m sure I would have remembered that although my memory is terrible :)

I’m very glad you got some Shloer. I like both kinds although I always think the red seems a little fancier :) And food is always one of the best parts about visiting relatives :) Although my mother always ended up doing most of the cooking whenever we visited my granny. I did enjoy having breakfasts and lunches with all of the food in the centre of the table and just helping ourselves. We never did that at home! I did love Cafe Noir biscuits too :D

The cherry flavour did come through! In fact, all of the hot chocolates have been tasting exactly how they are described :) They really are helping me to get through this cold spell. Thank you, Lillputty :) And you know that I always trust your book choices :)

Also, I know that I am extremely unobservant, but is the Spotify playlist at the side of the page a new thing? I don’t think I have noticed it before!

Dex said...

Very bizarre but my mother said she was helping to judge a beauty pageant the other day!

Louise Boyd said...

Again?
Do they get her to do this every time she's in the Philippines?!

How in the hell did you notice the Spotify playlist so fast?! I only put it there yesterday!
Good eye.
I figured if I was gonna make playlists, I may as well make them "findable". I'll switch it each month, maybe with the previous month's on display? Or would it make more sense just to have the current Monthlies' playlist up? Ack, I don't know >_<

Charlie did bring a bat in the house and I wasn't actually the one that caught it with the bin, that was Em, but I was there, and it was so stressful!
I love bats, the Pipistrelles are so cute, and we see a fair few around the garden, what with all the tree cover, and it makes me so mad when Charlie hunts them. They're endangered, so of course my monster of a cat targets them >_< I hate when he kills anything - but he's a predator, I get it - but the endangered ones? Number one on my shit list. No treats for Charlie Bear.

I'm forcing Em to try and make Café Noir biscuits this year.
She's been talking about it for months and I'm putting my foot down.
...
I actually can't force her to do anything but I can beg! Dignity, who needs it when biscuits are on the line!

Dex said...

I think that beauty pageants are still a big thing in the Philippines! They probably have them all the time!

I completely agree! All of my dignity would be of out the window whenever homemade Cafe Noir biscuits are being suggested! I am very jealous that you have an Emily to even think about making these things :)

Talking of jealousy, I can't ever remember seeing a bat in the wild, certainly not in Shetland. I'm not even sure if we get them up here. And you sometimes get them in your garden! The only comparable thing I can bring up is that I've been to Chester Zoo a couple of times (Chester isn't too far from West Kirby) and they have a batcave there with all of the bats flying free. It was definitely my favourite part of the zoo :)

I really like your Spotify playlist being at the side of the page. I'm glad I'm not totally unobservant :) And obviously I'm on your blog all the time so hopefully I won't miss any :)

Dex said...

I really have been using a lot of the little marshmallows in the hot chocolates. You definitely know the things I like :)

Louise Boyd said...

Hah! I'm so glad :D Hot chocolate on its own is undoubtedly stellar but throw some baby marshmallows in and its decadent as fuck *-* If I was a whipped cream kinda person - tastes like metal, weird texture - then it'd be epically decadent. I wonder if you could put a dollop of vanilla custard on top and it would do the same thing or just sink to the bottom and sit there like a milky sea creature =/

The only beauty pageant I'd want to judge would be one for animals and even then, they'd all be winners, even the fuggos :D

I've never been to Chester Zoo, or many at all actually, so I had to look up the bat cave and now I'm obsessed. Fruits bats are so stinkin' cute it should be illegal >_<
We have Pipistrelles here, and look at their dumb little faces:

https://cdn.bats.org.uk/uploads/images/EA5A6099-Pipistrellus-pipistrella-Common-pip-portrait-Blagdon-lake.jpg?v=1578667480

SO CUTE.

I'm having such a good time making playlist covers for the Monthlies, and it's just playing around on Procreate.
Reminds me of all the mixes I made for you over the years :D
I have them all saved somewhere... but for the life of me cannot remember where >_<

Dex said...

I love that face :D As if your garden couldn't seem any more magical to me, I now learn that you have Pipistrelles hanging around :) Is it at a particular time of year?

The 2 or 3 times that I have been to Chester Zoo, it has been freezing cold so I have always been very happy to spend as much time as possible in the batcave where it is nice and warm :)

I absolutely love the playlists you made for me! Both the music choices and the covers :) I keep them all together in my bedroom as they mean a huge amount to me. I'm definitely going to have a look through them this evening.

Even though I can't help feeling that it will sink, I hope you do end up trying the vanilla custard on the hot chocolate - it could be the discovery of the age :)

Dex said...

I had the last hot chocolate tonight. The French vanilla. Thank you so much for sending them to me, Lilliputty :D

Louise Boyd said...

So welcome, Fungus, I'm glad they were actually good. There's nothing worse than crap hot chocolate *-*
I had one myself today (no custard, unfortunately) to soothe my sort throat, because guess who caught a throat infection and has no idea how? This gremlin >_<
I knew I'd get sick post Christmas, I just knew it!

The Pipistrelles are most seen - by me, at least - during the summer. They like to hang out around the conifer at the top of the drive and you can see them swooping about late at night.
It's super cute but also really dumb because Charlie likes to climb that tree <_<
He is a monster and if he's not lucky, he's gonna get carried off by a colony of bats as vengeance for his crimes. I know they're small and he's a behemoth but I believe they could it and he'd deserve it!
I forgive him many things but not the bat murder!

Ps. You're the only one I've ever gone to that level of effort to make mixes for. Everyone else? Not special enough! :D

Dex said...

The hot chocolates were really good and very distinct from each other! I'm really sorry about your sore throat though, Lilliputty. I hope you have plenty of hot chocolates over the next few days to try and soothe it. This time of the year really is the worst for catching things. You definitely deserve to remain warm and comfortable and with plenty of sugar to keep you company :)

You really do have the best garden :) I would love to see the Pipistrelles swooping about late at night in summer! I always find it difficult to imaging Charlie doing things like climbing trees and moving fast - in my head, he is always resting in the most comfortable spot and having things brought to him :)

I really am ridiculously lucky to have a Maggot in my life who always knows the best things and what I'll like :) I was playing some of the mixes in the living room last night while reading and having my cup of tea :)

Dex said...

I think the last of the snow here should be gone very soon. It is supposed to warm up from today onwards...

My parents were telling me that they have got a new puppy on the farm. A cross between a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd! Just one month old.

Dex said...

Big decision time, Lilliputty! I need to decide on a new pair of shoes to buy as my old ones are falling to bits!

Louise Boyd said...

We'll get to shoes in a minute, but first... PUPPY!
Does it look like this?:

https://i.redd.it/5evdcn0la4ua1.jpg

I know you might not know, and if you don't, I'm gonna need you to get your parents to take a picture because I'm freaking out.
THAT'S THE DREAM DOG MIX!
So fucking cute >_<
Does it have a name?
Has Freya lost her mind over it?
...
Okay, we can talk about shoes now, I'm calm. Ish :)
What are the parameters of the shoeware? Trainers? Fashion or walking? Boots? Work shoes? Forbidden Crocs?
I need more information!

The throat infection reigns on. Hurts to swallow but crunchy stuff feels amazing (the ice cream lie is an amazing one, because who doesn't want ice cream at any opportunity, but actually toast is where it's at. Crunchy sourdough all. day. long) and I can only speak in broken honks. Like a goose. The fam are having a field day :)
Weirdest part is I actually feel fine, just a bit more tired than normal. Throat infections are weird. And I've only had one hot chocolate! I'll hopefully fix that tomorrow, though. Maybe while I watch Em play Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
She's been playing Breath of the Wild for months and she finished it a few days ago, so we're off on the next adventure. It's so pretty and the chillest RPG I've ever seen, other than Animal Crossing.
Have you played?

Charlie Update: his head wound healed so well but the chaos moron got himself on the roof (not uncommon, he loves it up there) yesterday and missed his landing spot on the neighbour's fence when he was jumping down, wiped out, and scuffed his chin.
Blood everywhere, but luckily it's just a graze.
I swear, though, this idiot cat is trying to kill me *-*

Dex said...

Daniel the puppy is a little less golden and a little less fluffy and his ears are a little more floppier than the puppy in the picture. He also has a bit more black on his nose and his fur. I will definitely try to send you a photo soon :)

I was thinking something quite simple like trainers that could be used for walking and work - fortunately the dress code for work isn't very formal! Sorry, I know that is very vague :)

I definitely wouldn't have thought that crunchy food like toast felt amazing when you had a throat infection but I am very glad it does :) I hope your family are making fun of the broken honks in the amazing, caring way that you all always do :) Drinking hot chocolate while watching Emily play a Zelda game sounds like a perfect way to spend the day. I would certainly love that :) And games like that are the best kind :)

Poor Charlie! He is having no luck at the moment. I'm very glad the chin injury wasn't serious. Did he have to go to the vet again? I'm sure he is getting all of the treats to help him recover :)

Dex said...

We went out for someone's leaving lunch today. While they were all having their savoury foods, I ordered churros with caramel sauce :)

Dex said...

Your background has turned pink!

Louise Boyd said...

Should be purple but maybe in my sickly state I've turned it pink. Who knows!
I don't know why I'm fucking with the colour scheme when I'm mostly likely going to overhaul the whole damn blog at some point, but the blue was really starting to bug me *-*

Daniel is a terrible name for a puppy, and I love it >_<
You gotta get me a picture and then go to the Philippines so you can get puppy cuddles and me me furious with jealousy :)

No vet for Charlie Bear, it was just a little scuff but the damn idiot needs to learn that he's not a kitten anymore. He's 12. An old man in cat years. He can't even get on the kitchen table most days, how does he think he can get on/off the roof?!
Hubris, thy name is Cat.

Hmm, your shoe is order is a complicated one but my brain automatically went to Vans:

https://www.vans.co.uk/shop/en-gb/vans-gb/mte-ultrarange-neo-vr3-shoes-vn000cwegrn

I mean, I'd buy these, so...

Another hot chocolate was acquired (not as good as churros & caramel sauce, but still pretty good) because now I can't speak! Just squeaks of exhaustion *-*
And my dad keeps making me gargle with aspirin and it tastes like a swimming pool. Gross <_<
I haven't been sick in years and I'd forgotten how much it sucksssssss.

Dex said...

It is definitely purple. I'm sorry, I don't know why I thought it was pink last night!

I don't know if my parents named the puppy or if he was already called that... My parents do seem to enjoy having tiny creatures running around them on the farm like Freya and Daniel :) It really is a shame that Freya had already left by the time the puppy arrived. I'm sure she would have loved him. He was interrupting my mother's game of badminton in the garden the other day by going after the shuttlecock :)

I really do like the look of those shoes! I can always rely on you to make excellent choices :D

I wish I could have brought you a caramel frappuccino like the one I had today! It genuinely tasted like the ones at Starbucks :) I'm not sure if they are as good for throat infections as hot chocolate though... I really do hope you recover your voice soon! And that Charlie learns to avoid the roof! You both deserve all the treats this weekend :)

Dex said...

Kerry really does make me watch some ridiculous TV! Gladiators then Masked Singer tonight! I think she enjoys making me suffer through them :)

Dex said...

Speaking of watching Emily play computer games, watching my sibling play computer games was something that I used to really enjoy doing. Probably with snacks :) I hadn't actually thought about that for a long time.

Louise Boyd said...

It's pretty chill, right? You get to enjoy the peril without having to be an active participant.
Plus, it's fun watching them die in a myriad of stupid ways ^-^
Em did one today where she was reeeeeal cocky and then face-planted directly into a mountainside :D

Laryngitis update: still can't bloody well speak :)

Dex said...

I'm very sorry your voice is still not back, Lilliputty. Hopefully hot chocolates while watching Emily play computer games is still helping :) Face planting mountains aside, I'm sure Emily is excellent at them :)

Kerry and I are going to see Nosferatu on Wednesday.

Dex said...

Did your family ever have an N64? I've always thought I would have enjoyed playing (or at least watching) games like Mario 64 and Zelda. Not even playing them to do well, just exploring the worlds :)

Dex said...

Our cinema plans were cancelled as Kerry wasn't feeling too great. So I just have to spend the evening being comfortable on the living room chair with a cup of tea and some Belgian chocolate waffles. Darn :)

Dex said...

Please tell Charlie to stay inside tomorrow. It looks like it's going to be very windy :S

Dex said...

I will definitely be staying inside this weekend to avoid weather and Up Helly Aa preparations. I did buy some triple chocolate muffins from Tesco to see me through :)

Louise Boyd said...

Love the idea that you think I have any control over what Charles does. Seriously, I'm lol-ing :D
He's a total lunatic about wind, though. I swear he believes he can fight it because he goes outside and runs around like he's invincible, and then scurries inside for admiration for his good work.
Cats are insane and full of hubris.
He's been pretty cool, though. Stared and mewed angrily out the window for a large portion of the day and then slept a lot.
We on the other hand started the day with watching the final How to Train Your Dragon movie because I'm still fucking sick! And yes, I did cry. We all cried, actually. And then the power went out for an hour :)
Éowyn's not exactly pummelled us like some places but damn, she's one pissed off stretch of wind.
How's the island been faring? I mean, even if it's bad, you've got triple chocolate muffins! Jealous! I can't actually remember the last time I had a muffin *-*

Sorry to hear about Kerry, hope it's nothing major! And hopefully you'll get to see Nosferatu at some point and tell me your opinions.
Did you know the guy who directed it is doing the Labyrinth sequel? I am... anxious *-*

Y'know, I always get really confused about what consoles we had as kids, especially the older ones. I'm better at knowing what we played on them, and I'm almost certain we never had the og Zelda game. But I played it at my childhood bestie's house and failed entirely to leave the village right at the start. I have no gamer blood, it's embarrassing >_<

Dex said...

Charles really is some creature :D Your family really are the best. I love that you still watch films together. I think that's one of the best things to do when you're ill. It's definitely what I would have been doing with you :) And I probably would have cried too :) No power cuts here so far... It might get worse but for the moment it feels like it really has just been a typically bad Shetland day with the weather :)

Kerry is feeling a little bit better, thank you :) She must be since she's decided to drag me out this evening to watch Gladiators with her :) I didn't even know there was going to be a Labyrinth sequel!

I'm no gamer either. I liked my computer games to be very easy. Sometimes I would play fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat by myself but in 2 player mode so my opponent wouldn't fight back :)

Dex said...

The weather has definitely calmed down here today. Hopefully it stays this way until Up Helly Aa. I try to avoid it as much as possible but I don't like to think of it being ruined by the weather. Also, one of my friends from work is in the main viking squad so we all thought we would make the effort to support her :)

Louise Boyd said...

What exactly does one do in the main viking squad? Will she get to light anything on fire? That's the main thing I'm interested in when it comes to this firebug tradition of yours :D
I'd never be allowed because I panic lighting matches, but the dream still lives inside me!

Did you actually know how to fight in Mortal Kombat? Like, techniques and special moves and stuff? Because I used to just smash all the buttons and see what happened *-*
To be fair, it actually worked pretty well!

Okay, tell me, how bad was Gladiators? I think I know already, because, y'know, come on, but is it as bad I think it'll be? Or worse? Is Pedro at least good in it?

Dex said...

At the end of the procession, she should get to throw her torch on the galley. All of the different squads get to throw their torches on the galley in the middle of the park :) The vikings are always the ones to lead the procession so I think she will get to throw her torch before most people. I would definitely worry about not being able to throw my torch far enough :)

I had Mortal Kombat 3 and I bought I special book that listed all the moves and cheats so I used to spend hours practising them like a loser :)

Oh, it was the TV game show Gladiators, not the new film :D

Dex said...

Made it home and I don't intend to leave the house until all the Up Helly Aa madness has died down! Fortunately, we get the day off tomorrow :)

Dex said...

I could hear plenty of heavy rain showers last night so I'm not sure how Up Helly Aa went!

Dex said...

Did I tell you that my parents got another puppy for the farm?! His name is Tim. The only other thing I know about him is that he's very small and he likes bacon :)

Louise Boyd said...

Another puppy?!
Tim and Daniel? Daniel and Tim?
Are they best pupper friends?!
I can totally see why Freya thinks the farm's a magical place when there's an endless supply of puppies *-*
What breed(s) is he?
Aw man, I want a puppy >_<

How did your friend do at Up Helly Aa? Manage to throw her torch far enough?
I'm with you, I'd probably end up setting some hapless bystander on fire because I wasn't paying enough attention =/

I'm still sick, so you gotta go to the cake fridge this week in my honour. It's the law. And I am the lawmaker ^-^
Your choices are!:

- White Biscoff Millionaires
- Mini Egg Brownies
- Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake

I'll be jealous no matter what you pick, the entire menu sounded amazing this week *-*

Dex said...

I will hopefully bring you more puppy news very soon :) Tim is quite a bit smaller than Daniel so I think he spends quite a lot of time trying to hide :)

I'm not quite sure how Evie did at UHA as she very sensibly took the week off work. I know that she was up for more than 24 hours! After the procession, all the squads go around various halls where people are eating and drinking and dancing. The whole thing isn't over until the next morning!

I was in the junior procession once and I very nearly did set on fire the hair of the person in front of me. Never again :)

I mean, I feel like I had to celebrate the return of mini eggs :) I'm glad you like sending me to the cake fridge :D

Dex said...

Mini eggs brownies for lunch, I think :)

Dex said...

I was completely forgetting it was now February until I saw your new monthly and playlist! That is my afternoon sorted :D

Dex said...

I really hope you are starting to feel a little bit better, Lilliputty. Has your voice returned yet?

Louise Boyd said...

The voice is still MIA, but I went to the nurse today and she's 99% sure it's leftover inflammation and it'll sort itself out eventually. But she gave me a lurid green mouthwash to gargle with - tastes like the dentist; yuck - and taken a swab of my throat to check for any bacteria, just in case.
So, nothing to worry about, just gotta live with not being able to sass people for a little while longer. Sighhhhhhh. I miss sassing >_<
It does get me out of holding any conversation on my mum's birthday, though! No small talk for me :D

Any highlights from the Monthlies playlist? Always intrigued to know what might get the Dex seal of approval ^-^

Has everyone recovered from the drunken revels of UHA? Or is this the kind of celebration that takes at least a week to burn off? You're all just flammable meat sacks for seven days, aren't you?!

Dex said...

I'm very glad the nurse thinks that it will all be okay, less so about the yucky green stuff :) And I'm sure you will make up for the lack of sassing once your voice recovers :)

Actually, there are so many ill people here right now! The after effects of UHA. No wonder I avoid it :)

Obviously FLOOR CRY :) And I really did like Burning Up Slow. But really the whole playlist. You are excellent at making them :)

Dex said...

I really am very poor at discovering new music these days. I just keep re-listening to all of my old dream pop :)

Dex said...

I definitely think my parents will very much miss not having the puppies to play with when they come back to Shetland. They do seem to take up a lot of their time at the moment :)

Louise Boyd said...

They're made of sterner stuff than me because I'd never leave, just have all my books shipped to the farm and stay forever with the puppies *-*

Prepare yourself for your bi-monthly lecture about liking the things you like and not feeling bad about it:

QUIT BEING STUPID, STUPID AND NEVER APOLOGISE FOR ANYTHING!

:)

Okay, now you get goodies, but only one choice because really, there is only one choice from this week's Cake Fridge menu: the Nutty Box with Ferrero Nutella Brownies and Daim Brownies.
They both sound so good >_<

Guess who still can't talk and picked up a minor stomach virus in their immunocompromised state?
:)
2025 has not started well *-*

Dex said...

I'm so sorry, Lilliputty. I wish I could do something for you to make you feel better. And that I was close enough to bring you things.
Please try to get plenty of rest this weekend. I love that even in your weakened state, you still have the energy to lecture me about apologising for the things I like. You'll always be my best friend :)

You were right about the Nutty Box. It was the only correct choice :D And I'm so glad you made me go as they will be closed next week!

Dex said...

I do love having cake fridge leftovers for my weekend breakfast :)

Dex said...

One of the things I really do like about UHA is that it is the time of year when the mornings start getting noticeably brighter :)

Dex said...

I'm sorry I haven't had any Freya news for you since New Year. My parents will be staying with them for a few days on their way back in March (I think they arrive in UK on the 20th) so I will hopefully have some then. Probably too much to hope that they bring her home with them like last time :)

Dex said...

I have a large bag of peanut M&Ms with me tonight. I will use them as a reward for doing my exercises later :)

Louise Boyd said...

I like your fitness ethic: exercise = goodies.
And peanut M&Ms are the gold standard of goodies. Favourite colour? Mine's yellow, for a reason I cannot fathom but do no question. Blue is obviously the worst.
Not the case with Smarties, though; blue is better than yellow in that case.
Weird *-*

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your parents do actually spirit Freya across the water because I feel your tiny island could do with the human embodiment of the sun parading across its lands.
For the crops and serotonin and such :)
Also, I need stories!

Got myself a new toy:

I feel like a dragon when I use it ^-^
Send good tracheal vibes my way, I've got two weeks to get my voice back or I have to go the doctor again and get poked and prodded!
Cannot express how much I hate going to the doctor <_<

I have very important news: they're rebooting Buffy and I don't know how I feel about it >_<

Dex said...

I promise that I will have Freya stories for you at some point :)

Sugar is always a strong motivation to do my exercises :) I am quite obsessive over my routines so I never miss my exercises unless it's unavoidable. And then I make up for it the next day by doing a double set :)

I love that you rank the colours of M&Ms and Smarties :) I'm not sure about M&Ms but I think you are definitely right about the blue Smarties :) It is ages since I have had them though! Do you remember the little boxes of Smarties? I'm assuming you were like me and tried to eat them all in one go :)

They are rebooting Buffy?! That completely passed me by! And Kerry has never mentioned it. Which is a surprise as she loves Buffy and she is always aware of everything :) I will need to ask how she feels about it...

I am certain that you would make an excellent dragon :) But I really do hope that you are okay. I hate to think of my best friend not being able to fling colourful insults at her family! You will get all of my good vibes for the next two weeks so you don't have to go back to the doctor!

Dex said...

Kerry and I don't really do valentines as we are both quite lazy! But she has bought me sweets and I have bought her wine so I think we have done okay :)

Louise Boyd said...

No offence to the couples of the world, but Valentines is such a weird day. Why do you need a yearly reminder to celebrate your other half?! That's so bizarre!
One of my exes gave me a valentines and I genuinely just did not know how to behave *-* Obviously I wasn't a goblin or anything, but inside I was just thinking "this is weird, this is weird, this. is. weird!"
Maybe it's because it wasn't a book :D

The little boxes of Smarties were the best way to eat them (yes, in one go). The tubes are fine, pretty good for pouring down your throat like an absolute monster, but the boxes were better. So glad you agree! :D Do they even make them anymore?
...
They do! That's awesome. I'm gonna need a bushel.
How do you feel about orange Smarties?

Report back Kerry's thoughts on Buffy, I'm interested to hear from a fellow obsessive what they think because I'm stumped.
Like, I'm thrilled Whedon isn't involved because he sucks as a person, but also he created it and the years he was in charge (1-3) were the best seasons, so... can they really do it without him? And... is it even necessary? The show lives in this perfect little bubble, do we really need more? Is that just flogging a dead donkey because the tv execs are too scared to take any risks on new things? Can SMG still bring the vibes? How do you explain Angel's ageing? Will the whole crew be back? Nicholas Brendon's kind of a mess, would he able to reprise Xander? Where will it be set? Sunnydale? Because last we heard Buffy was in Italy? Will they use the comics? They continued the story, so there's a wealth of material there but they made choices I'm really not cool with (see: Dawn and Xander dating. ... Ew). SO MANY QUESTIONS >_<

Em made Crumble ^-^

Dex said...

I was going to say, surely they still make the little boxes of Smarties. Otherwise, what would they put in children's party bags :) I hope that party bags are still a thing. With a slice of cake wrapped in a napkin :) I wonder how many tips of the tube it would take me to finish a tube of Smarties these days... I think I actually quite like the orange Smarties. I hope that wasn't the wrong answer! :)

I love your reaction to valentines :) And it definitely should have been a book :) Kerry and I won't be doing anything special this weekend. Just her usual fun in making me suffer through the Masked Singer and Gladiators (although I secretly enjoy that one) :) I will definitely bring up Buffy with her too. Hopefully it turns out okay but they really should leave things alone sometimes. I never got past the end of season 2 on my own but Kerry has made me watch a few season 3 episodes (I think that's her favourite). I don't know if I have asked this before but do you have any particular favourite Buffy episodes?

Dex said...

It really is going to be strange having my parents back home at the end of March. I'm very comfortable with my routine at the moment :)

Dex said...

I can't believe I forgot to ask the most important question! What kind of crumble did Emily make?!

Dex said...

I really don't like having to take on responsibility when my parents aren't here! I've had to order two new tyres for the car. Hopefully I've ordered the right ones! I did it through the garage we always use so I'm assuming they would tell me if I was wrong...

Louise Boyd said...

Totally concur, making grownup decisions is the absolute worst. Especially when it's for something you're not entirely responsible for!
I reckon you got the right ones, though, 'cause you're clever and the universe can't be that mean <_<
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Em made apple crumble but with the berry compote she made and froze at Christmas mixed through it. So fucking good. But I think I've finally come the conclusion that I prefer crumble when it's cold. Which might be sacrilege? But it's so much better! Tastes more apple-y, not just sweet, and I don't burn my mouth because I'm too impatient to wait ^-^
Do you eat crumble with anything? Cream? Custard? Ice cream? I'm a solid believer in all three.

Favourite Buffy episode? Damn, that's hard. My mind automatically goes to "Prophecy Girl", the season one finale, which is just one of the best episodes of fantasy tv ever, imo, but also when Buffy tell's Giles she's only sixteen and doesn't want to die, it just eviscerates me.
But then there's "School Hard", the first episode with Spike, and ugh, for all I hate what they did with him in later seasons, he was such a great villain. Arch and chaotic, having a total ball making a mess of Buffy's life, and he's so damn funny. I'm an Angel/Buffy shipper, through and through, but damn, Angel didn't have half of Spike's charisma.
Now, you can't forget "Halloween" because apart from just being great, it's when Oz starts to get introduced more (my love for Daniel Osbourne knows no bounds), and I really love the idea that on Halloween the demons of the world take the night off because it's a cliché. That's such cool world building lore. Also, Buffy head butting Spike after saying "honey, I'm home" is *chef's kiss*.
"Surprise" for the coolest thing Angel's ever done (see: neck suck smoke break).
"Innocence" is a big hitter because emotional angst, kicking Angel in the balls, and rocket launcher.
"Becoming: Part 2" - Sarah McLachlan is the soundtrack of all my teenage pain.
"Homecoming"! I fucking love "Homecoming". Cordelia's been a favourite of mine from the second she walked on screen and opened her bitchy mouth, but I loooovvve when she gets to kick some ass. Especially in a kick-ass dress.
"Helpless" is an insanely creepy episode, and I always have to force myself not to skip it just because it gives me the shivering icks. It's that good. And also a huge milestone in Giles and Buffy's parent/child relationship.
Love "The Zeppo" because Xander saves the world and my guy doesn't get enough credit for being a badass.
"Graduation Day: Part 2" and probably "Part One", as well, but the Mayor's really on his game in the second half. Some truly terrible CGI in this episode but the whole school flinging off their caps and gowns to go to war against a giant snake demon is a next level flex.
Goofy shoutout to "Beer Bad" because it's so fucking silly.
"Hush" - The Gentleman and Doug Jones = enough said.
And finally, "Once More, with Feeling", obviously. A fantasy show doing an entire musical episode is a thing of beauty, and I can still sing it word for word ^-^
...
I fucking love this show. Thank you for asking me this question, it reminded me how much :D

Dex said...

This is going to sound ridiculous but I had no idea what a compote was so I had to look it up. I knew it was going to make me jealous but it is always better to make sure :) And I think it is perfectly acceptable to eat crumble cold :) Any other foodstuffs that are usually served hot that you prefer cold? With a crumble, I would probably have cream because that's how I was brought up :) But I'm sure I would make do with custard and ice cream too :) The one thing I don't always like is very yellowy custard but I'm assuming that proper custard is never supposed to look like that?

I'm very glad I asked you too! I can never tell you enough how much I love it when you make lists of your favourite things :D You'll be very glad to know that Homecoming was one of the season 3 episodes that Kerry made me watch for the very same reasons you said :)

Dex said...

The Swearwolf Review. I love that :D

Louise Boyd said...

:D
I'm so glad you approve, I've been meaning to change it for a while and I downloaded that font and thought, fuck it, it's time to make a motherfucking header!
Added a little moon, for good measure ^-^

Y'know the only reason I know things like what a compote is? Over a decade of watching the Great British Bake Off. There's no way otherwise I would've known something like a Religieuse existed!
To save you from googling, it's two small choux buns stacked atop each other, filled with either chocolate or mocha crème pâtissiére, and topped with ganache. They're supposed to look like little nuns :D
I'd push a nun into the street to get my hands on one *-*

Other hot foods I prefer cold? Hmm. I don't think so, actually, but I think this is something I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for...
You?

Glad to know Kerry also has impeccable taste in Buffy episodes :)
The only thing that would make think less of her is if she was a Spuffy shipper =/ Yuck.

Ps. Yellow custard is an abomination, off-white and vanilla speckled is the only kind worth paying for.

Dex said...

The little crescent moon over the i is the perfect finishing touch :)

I would become a nun if Religieuse was part of the diet :) That really does sound like something I would destroy! I will be very jealous if Emily ever gets around to making them :)

I was sure I would be able to think of dozens of foodstuffs I prefer cold to hot but my mind always goes blank! I'm not sure if leftover Christmas dinner can count :)

I'm very glad to have yellow custard confirmed as an abomination :)

I never got as far as the Spike/Buffy episodes but I'm sure I would feel the same!

Louise Boyd said...

You are definitely not missing out on anything with Spuffy, it's truly hideous. There is an episode called "Something Blue" in season four, however, that does have them fall in love because Willow casts a dodgy spell and that's the only instance of their ship being something I could get behind. Otherwise? Straight in the bin. Bangel, all the way.
Spike is better than Riley, though. You won't have met him yet but fucking hell, what a big lump of pointless meat -_-

Do you mean the entirety of Christmas dinner cold? Veggies and everything? Or just the good stuff like the stuffing and roast potatoes?
And isn't the best thing to do with leftover Christmas dinner, is put it in a sandwich? Ughhhh, it's only been two months and I'm already jonesing for stuffing >_<
...
How has it been two months? 0_0

Hmm, well, I can't delivery Religieuse into your sugar fiend mitts, but I can direct you towards the Cake Fridge!:

- Caramel Egg Brownies
- Milkybar Millionaires
- Brookie Billionaires

I'm so fucking jealous, right now *-*
Just gotta remember I'm getting Nutella Cheesecake for my gran's birthday next week. Just gotta hold on and not think of Caramel Egg Brownies...

Louise Boyd said...

Ps. Is it sad that I keep opening the blog so I can look at the new header? :)

Dex said...

I don't think it is sad at all. I definitely enjoy seeing the new header when I open your blog too :)

Obviously, cold stuffing and roast potatoes are the best :) And I maybe have a strong liking for cold roasted carrots and parsnips :S Also, we are the kind of family who have Yorkshire pudding with every roast dinner! My dad used to make the best Yorkshire pudding but he's now too old for cooking. Fortunately, my mother has learned well :)

I've never had it in a sandwich though! Is that what you do? Gravy in the sandwich as well? I need to know these things :)

Well, you did really put me in the mood for the caramel egg brownies :) But I'm sure that Nutella Cheescake will trump them, especially if it is made by Emily! Also, happy birthday to your gran :)

I think both you and Kerry have told me that season 4 Buffy is one of the weakest. Bland love interest probably doesn't help either!

Dex said...

The sun is out in full force today so I am spending the day in the sun lounge with my kindle :)

Dex said...

Complete change of weather today. Wind and rain! Currently under blanket!

Dex said...

Sadly, my parents won't be staying with Freya on their way back in March as she is going to be away :(

Louise Boyd said...

Booooooo!
Is she at least going somewhere good?

Have you ever had a sesame snap? I don't normally like them but Sarah made these cookies yesterday:

Sesame Honey Cookies

And they were SO good. Sweet and savoury and so goddamn chewy. Not trying to rub it in your face or anything, but god damn!

Weird fact: I don't really like gravy =/
It's fine! But I don't really get why everyone goes so crazy for it! At Christmas dinner, I'm just hoarding the cranberry sauce and letting everyone else fight over the meat goop ^-^
So, I don't personally know if it's good in a sandwich but Sarah, who loves gravy, says it's pretty epic.
...
I also eat Yorkshire puddings on their own with the rest of the meal on the side because I don't want anything to spoil their flavour 0_0

Dex said...

They are going on a skiing holiday :S Although her mother did phone me last night to ask if I would lend her £2000 towards the cost it! It really is the only reason she ever phones me so I am not in the best of moods with her.

I didn't even know sesame snaps were thing! And your sister is a sorcerer for turning them into a sweet and savoury cookie! Definitely worth rubbing in my face :D

We are very much a gravy family even though I really like things like cranberry sauce (but very rarely get given them). And the Yorkshire pudding is always the last things I eat on my plate as it is the best part :) You are right to keep it unspoiled :)

Dex said...

I've decided to book some time off in March, just before my parents arrive home, to try and enjoy some time to myself. And to do some cleaning!

Dex said...

I have bought some chocolate mousse for my dessert tonight :)

Louise Boyd said...

Genuinely, is there anything better than chocolate mousse? It's basically the perfect dessert. Eat it from the bowl/tub/mug? Cool. Spread it on a biscuit? Excellent. Turn it into trifle? Smashing. Sprinkle it with chopped nuts/gummy bears/oreos/etc.? The best.
You literally cannot go wrong!

Wait. Your cousin asked you for money for a trip you aren't even invited on? So not cool!
Also, Jesus fucking christ, how much does a skiing holiday cost?! 0_0 I actually have no idea how anyone goes on holiday these days. It cost Sarah so much just to go to London last year and that wasn't even out the country =/

I'm not really feeling the Cake Fridge menu this week, but if you're the desperate for sugar, I think the Mini Egg Millionaires and Raspberry Brownies sound alright :)
I'll be dining out on the last of the Nutella Cheesecake ^-^

Dex said...

That's okay that you weren't really feeling the cake fridge this week as I ended up going out for lunch :) Nothing too exciting - a chicken caesar wrap and a caramel iced latte. Followed by coke and M&Ms from the vending machine at work :)

Do your family ever make chocolate mousse at home? I sometimes think that it is maybe the one dessert I could make :) And I do love how you come up with all these excellent ideas of how to make desserts even better that I have never even thought off :)

Apart from Aberdeen a couple of years ago, I haven't been out of Shetland for a holiday in a long time. The cost of getting off this island really is ridiculous. I sometimes wonder if I would have done more things around the UK if I lived on the mainland. You and I could go on road trips :)

Dex said...

I hope your February monthly isn't stressing you out too much, Lilliputty. I'm sorry you have finished the Nutella cheesecake as you definitely deserve more :)

Dex said...

February monthly :D

Dex said...

I was forgetting there would be a new playlist too :)

I've bought some Tim Tams and Angel Slices for this evening.

Louise Boyd said...

I always panic now with every monthly playlist it'll have, like, five songs on it because I've not listened to much, or nothing's grabbed my attention. But it never happens. And even if it was five songs, they're probably gonna be bangers anyway, so I have no idea why I panic!
An insight into my brain ^-^

Angel Slices. YES. Tim Tams... poor man's Penguin but still good! I think it's the chocolate. Nothing's as good as British chocolate. And now I want a Penguin >_<

I have an idea, and I think it's a good but weird one.
...
Drink Coke whilst eating M&Ms.
...
Maybe it's just me but for some reason I think that'd be really good 0_0

Fungus and Maggot road trips? Fuck yeah! I'd have to be in charge of the music and snacks, though, because I can't drive! Have to bring something to the party.
I wonder how long it'd take to road trip around the whole of Shetland. Not long?
How good are you at directions because I'm legit terrible; a map is a linear drawing and nothing else :)

Dex said...

Your playlists are always excellent :)

I was thinking the exact same thing when eating my Tim Tams! Whoever says they are better than Penguins have no idea what they are talking about :) I know it is what I am used to but I would almost always take British chocolate over other chocolate. Obviously, I am happy to make an exception from time to time :) And I drink Coke while eating M&Ms at work quite frequently. They are my two regular purchases from the vending machine :) It is the crispy M&Ms though.

I'm sure I would love the music and the snacks that you would bring to our road trips :) According to the internet, it only takes 2 hours to drive the length of the Shetland mainland so it might not be much of a road trip! I don't get much opportunity to put my map reading skills to the test but I like to think they are okay. I do enjoy a map :)

Dex said...

I forgot to say Happy Pancake Day for yesterday :)

Louise Boyd said...

Happy Pancake Day for yesterday to you, too!
Honestly, I totally forget it was P-Day, which I always seem to do! Which is nonsense because I love pancakes >_<
Tell me you made enough for the both of us?

Crispy M&Ms are the best. I'd choose them over all the other kinds, no question.
Did you ever have Astros? I was obsessed with them in school. There would be this snacks truck that would park itself outside the high school and every break time I'd get a box and crunch my way through them ^-^

Thank god you've got map skills, because if it was left to me, we'd get lost leaving the house.
Did ever tell you I got lost in the art college I went to for a year, multiple times?
It was an H shaped building, and the crossbar part of the H was a connecting bridge and how you got to the library from where my studio was. ... Which sounds simple but I swear to you, it was like there was a temporal anomaly happening every time I crossed that damn bridge and I could not for the life of me find that damn library! *-*
If I'm going to part of a time loop, I would prefer to give my consent, dammit!

Dex said...

You are going to think that I am some kind of monster but I have had pancakes the last 3 days! Well, I call them pancakes but they are really crepes. They are about the only thing I can make. I have them with maple syrup and cook them in a ridiculous amount of butter. So healthy :)

I probably haven't thought about Astros since school! I used to love them! Why do they take away all of the best chocolate?! Also, your school had a snack truck?! We just had a tuck shop that would be set up on the stage in the main hall at break times. At primary school, they used to just bring out a couple of boxes of crisps, usually Space Raiders.

I'm sure that getting to the library was a lot more complicated than it sounds :)

Louise Boyd said...

If you're a monster, then you're a monster I highly commend because three days of pancakes is epic! We differ on the best kind of pancake, but they're all the same in the end, really, and I do have maple syrup in the cupboard... might be making pancakes tomorrow :)
The only way I really like crepes is if you spread Nutella or jam on them and then roll it up like a cigar. Flat, they make no sense to me. Rolled into a pancake Roly-Poly? So good.

We did indeed have a snack truck but I don't think the school organised it, I think it was just some business trying to make a buck on hangry teenagers. Not that I'm complaining, they had the aforementioned and much missed Astros, and Millions, and I think ice lollies at certain points in the year.
We had a tuck shop inside the school as well, but it was tiny and rubbish and I never volunteered to work in it because nahhhhhh.

Dex. Dexterous. Fungus. CAPTAIN CANDYCLAWS!
They have Dubai Chocolate Brownies at the Cake Fridge tomorrow and I NEED you to get them because I must know what they're like. It's imperative!
...
Unless you hate pistachios and then you gotta get either the Banana Caramel Cornflake Blondies or good old Biscoff Billionaire's Brownies.
...
But get the Dubai Brownies! Do it! Do it! :D

Dex said...

I definitely can't refuse a Lilliputty order. Never ever :D The remainder of the Dubai Brownies are currently in the fridge and will be consumed over the weekend :) I'm sorry that I can never describe these things but all I can say is that I was very reluctant to share them and I am very glad there weren't many people in the office :) Hopefully your sisters will get around to making them!

Dex said...

I really hope you ended up making pancakes :) What kind do you like best? I'm sure you have told me before but I'm so forgetful and I always enjoy being told these things again :)

I can barely remember what we had at the tuck shop at high school. I want to say Joosters and Milky Way Crispy Rolls, although maybe that's just what I wish they had :) At primary school, there was a bakery right across the road although I think most children only went there to buy pick'n'mix. They sold them in 10p and 20p bags. Good times :)

Dex said...

It really was so misty here last night! Driving home from Kerry's, I could hardly see a thing!

Louise Boyd said...

Ahahaha I know I told you to get the Dubai Brownies but I am seething with jealousy >_<
Did they have the weird crunchy stuff in the pistachio goop?
Ughhhhhhh, why must my stupid town not have something as wondrous as a Cake Fridge!
...
Em did make Marmalade, though, and it's perfect.

You had a bakery across the road from your school? Lucky! We had to hoof it down into town if we wanted any goodies!
To be fair, my primary school was a five minutes away from the high street, but we had to wait until primary seven to be let out at lunchtime.
And the high school was a good twenty minutes if you speed walked from town. We only had forty-five minutes for lunch, but we damn well got our sugar fix.
...
No wonder my stomach's fucked. All that eating and walking as a teenager could not have been good for me =/

It's been really nice her for the last few days. Sunny and about 15℃. I've been outside with a coat on and everything *-*
S'all gonna disappear tomorrow, though. Back to 8℃ and grey skies :(
I hate Scottish weather. It's the worst.

Ps. The classic drop scone is my preferred pancake. With jam.

Dex said...

Well, it wouldn't be fair if you had your sisters and a cake fridge. I need to be able to make you jealous somehow :) The weird crunchy stuff was indeed in the pistachio goop :)

I can easily imagine that most of the things that Emily makes are perfect :) I hardly ever have marmalade but I do enjoy it when I get the chance. Is it shredded or non shredded? That's about the only thing I know to ask about marmalade :) How do you even make it?!

I think it is definitely my turn to be jealous. 15c and sunny?! That's like Shetland on a good summer's day :) Currently 3-4c here :S

I do enjoy a dropped scone too :) And I did buy some jam the other week for the first time in ages. I put it on some sugar waffles :)

Dex said...

It actually snowed here today! Very wet snow and it didn't hang around, but still snow!

Dex said...

After our conversation the other week, I had to buy a packet of Penguins :)

Dex said...

I've taken a few days off work to clean the house for my parents coming home. They are flying back to the UK on the 19th.

Dex said...

Cleaning the house is definitely not fun! My plan is to do a room a day. Today is the kitchen. Yesterday was the lounge.

Dex said...

The people at work really wanted cake fridge yesterday so since I was on holiday, I said I would bring some in. The fridge only had the Nutty Slice left but they seemed to like it. Kerry did bring me the leftovers when I picked her up from work at the end of the day :)

Dex said...

Even though I don't enjoy cleaning, it is very nice relaxing afterwards in a clean house :)

Louise Boyd said...

Ooft, apologies for the week long silence, Dexterous it's been a stressy one.
I ended up back at the doctor's because I caught myself another stomach bug (immune system is totally bollocksed) and my voice still isn't back, so I'm now on antibiotics - which are absolutely wrecking my stomach, as per usual - and have been referred to Ears, Nose, and Throat at the hospital so they can poke and prod at me. Yay?
I'm so fucking tired *-*
And so annoyed I missed Cake Fridge day for you! They had Crookies >_<
Fingers crossed that's a repeat item because at least one of us needs to try one - Sarah's weirdly vehemently against them for some reason!
She did make me blondies, though, so I can't really be too bitter without my cake privileges being taken away =/

Quick question: how messy did you make the house that it takes you days to clean?! 0_0

Ps. Em's marmalade is shredded but with only a small amount because she knows I'm not a fan but my dad is. She's gotta keep the marmalade peace :)

Pps. Just watched Wicked with the fam and god freaking dammit, it's brilliant *-* I'm so blown away.

Dex said...

Hi Lilliputty. You know you never have to apologise for periods of silence. I will always still be here leaving trivial comments :) And you clearly had very valid reasons! I'm so sorry that I hardly ever ask how you are, especially since I know you haven't been at your best recently. It really is always on my mind. I just want you to have an easier time, and get your voice back so you can make your sarcastic insults :) I really hope the hospital appointment goes okay.

I can definitely get Crookies if they have them again! I have learned my lesson though and will never go to the cake fridge after 9am! People must just raid the fridge on their way to work as there was hardly anything left! I'm sure that Sarah has excellent reasons for being against them but all I am thinking is croissant + cookie :)

I promise that the house really isn't that bad but it needed a good dusting and there is just so much to dust! And I was dusting places that probably hadn't been done in years :)

Emily is definitely a hero for keeping the marmalade peace. And I love when you see a new film that gives you that reaction :)

Dex said...

Almost done with house cleaning. I'm very glad that I started with the most difficult rooms (lounge/sun lounge, kitchen) last week. They each took me a whole day while the other rooms I have finished in a couple of hours and have spent the rest of my time in the chair with tv and books :)

Dex said...

Parents should have just started their flight back to UK...

Louise Boyd said...

Hope your parents' flight goes okay!
I heard that tall people are more prone to deep vein thrombosis on long plane journeys. ... So, we'd be fine!

I can't believe you dusted your entire house; that's bonkers *-*
The last time I dusted was two Christmases ago, and it was just one side of my room, but it took SO long and I completely fucked up my back doing it because I was standing on my bed the entire time with the handheld vacuum in hand, pocking up ten thousand tiny objects and trying not to die inside :)
I hate dusting.
Y'know what'll be the worst thing, though? If your parents don't notice!

ENT appointment is next Tuesday at 10:50am. ... Early doctor appointments are the worst 0_0 But hopefully they'll help me get my goddamn voice back. I'm so sick of the struggleeeee.
Not looking forward to potentially having a camera down my throat, though =/

Dex said...

It is useful being short sometimes :) My parents are now safely at my cousin's house in Aberdeen. It turns out that Freya isn't away but is staying with her dad (who also lives in Aberdeen) so they may get to see her after all :)

No, other people never notice when you clean. And I bet they will mess it up again very quickly :) One of the reasons it took so long is that we have so many ornaments. So I had to take them all off the shelves, dust the shelves, dust the ornaments, and then put them back on the shelves :S But as much as I hated doing it, I am still quite happy with the results :)

I really hope your appointment goes okay, Lilliputty. And that the throat camera isn't too uncomfortable! You definitely deserve cake when you get home :)

Louise Boyd said...

For real, I'm so nauseous, the last thing I'll want after the throat camera is cake. The doctor will be lucky I don't yak on them =/
I will probably guilt the rentals into buying me a Chai Latte afterwards, though. Being parched from manhandling and all :)

Fuck yeah! Does this mean Freya video chat time? It feels like forever since she's licked the screen at you >_<
Glad your parents got through their flight okay, though. When will they be back in Lerwick? Or are they staying a few days with your cousin?

I'm with you: deep cleaning sucks but the results are so damn satisfying.
I dread to think how much dust is inhaled in the process, though *-*

Your cake fridge order this week isn't even hard:

Tiramisu Brownies!

If you ascend into the heavens after eating them, I'll miss you but I'll understand.

Dex said...

I really was sneezing so much from the dust this last week :S

You do give me the best cake fridge orders, Lilliputty :D I hope she makes them again! I was very greedy and didn't even bring them into the office to share as they were too good :)

I'm hoping I get to see Freya but I don't think even my parents know what the plans are. They are on the boat back to Lerwick on Sunday night so they will have a couple of days in Aberdeen.

Chai Lattes are always good :) But it is very unfair that you are having to go through all this in the first place! Your body should be much nicer to you!

Dex said...

I did get a very quick Freya call yesterday :) She called me 'cupcake' and tried to lick me through the screen!

Dex said...

Parents back home tomorrow...

Louise Boyd said...

And so goes your peace and quiet :)
But at least you got screen licked by Freya, that's worth just about anything!
I hope you're making the best of your last night sans parentals, though, and being extremely comfortable in front of the tv.
It's what I'd be doing ^-^
I never get the living room just for me, and all our chairs are desperately uncomfortable. It's the great sadness of my life -_-

Dex said...

I'm sorry for the short message tonight, Lilliputty. My parents are back and I am completely exhausted by them being here. And they have already messed up the house.

When we have our own house, the chairs will be the most comfortable :) Do you have an ideal chair?

Louise Boyd said...

Ah, parents and the chaos they generate :) You'll get used to the madness, I swear, it just might take a few dozen trips out the house so you don't lock them in the shed with only a packet of biscuits *-*

I've got to give much, many, and lots of props to my rentals today, though, because they took me to the hospital, sat with me while the doctor put a camera up my nose and down my throat (one entry point, such a weird feeling, but I didn't gag!), took me to Waterstones for toast and a chai latte, bought me a book (I bought another), and then drove me home the scenic route.
Good parents, most excellent. ... They did bicker the entire time, though, which I decided to find highly entertaining instead of deeply annoying :)
The doc says I'm fine, however, just my vocal cords not working properly. I've basically forgotten how to speak after a rabid case of Laryngitis, which is, uh, weird? So, they're sending me to speech therapy. Could take a few weeks for an appointment, but fingers crossed the exercises they give me will get my bloody voice back and I can talk like a normal again!
I wanna be able to sing my lungs out to Wicked at some point in the future, y'know?

Dex said...

Your parents really are the best! And I think that constant bickering over minor things is just normal parental behaviour :)

I'm genuinely very proud of you for not gagging with the nose/throat camera! You definitely deserved your toast, chai latte and books. Actually, I think that you deserve those things all of the time :) Is it difficult for you to choose books to buy or do you just follow your instincts? :) It is nice that you can still go to Waterstones. That is something I really miss from living down south.

I'm glad the doctor wasn't overly concerned about your lost voice. Speech therapy will hopefully be a big help! I do love the thought of you using your recovered voice to blast out songs from Wicked - just be careful not to overdo it :D

Travel is so much better via the scenic routes :)

Dex said...

Important question. What did you have on your toast at Waterstones?

Dex said...

One of the good things about my parents being back is that I do get my dinner made for me when I get home from work :)

Louise Boyd said...

It's the best, right? I'm pretty positive that if left to my own devices I'd only eat cereal and French toast with a guilt serving of a vegetable thrown in *-*
And speaking of toast! I had just butter on mine at Waterstones. I love the taste of bread too much to add anything else all that often! I was marginally jealous that my dad had marmalade, though. Marginally. But if I'd had it, it would've dulled the chai latte which was probably the best one I've ever had? I'm gonna have to figure out how they make them because I've got wicked cravings, now >_<
Can you still get them anywhere in Lerwick? And what's replaced the cafe that was closing? No more fluffy pancakes :(

Are you doing anything for Mother's Day? Getting your life-giver anything? Perhaps cooking her dinner? :D

Ps. My Waterstones book choosing method is to start from A in the SFF section and work my way down the aisle ^-^

Dex said...

Toast and butter really is the perfect combination :) And speaking of French toast, I actually had some today! We got a takeaway brunch at work from Fjara cafe. French toast with maple syrup and a caramel latte for me :) The trick is not to pour the pot of syrup over the toast but to dip the toast in the pot. It soaks it all up :)

I do miss the fluffy pancakes from the Japanese coffee shop. The building is still empty so I have no idea what will replace it! I do hope it is another coffee shop as we need somewhere close by to get hot chocolates. And chai lattes :) There must be other places in Shetland that sell them but I'm sure that none would be as good as the one you had at Waterstones - I hope you learn their secret :)

Your book choosing method sounds excellent. You definitely deserve all the time there is to work your way from end to end :)

You know how terrible my family are at doing things for each other on special occasions! Maybe she will settle for a takeaway :)

Dex said...

Sorry, I wasn't sure if my last comment posted but hopefully :)

Dex said...

I am considering going into the office this weekend just to get some peace and quiet!

Dex said...

I am very glad that Waterstones still exists. Some of my happiest times in Edinburgh were spent wandering around the one in Princes Street and then heading next door to Starbucks for a caramel frappuccino and blueberry muffin :)

Dex said...

I hope the weather in Blair this week is as good as the forecast!

Dex said...

I hope the March monthly is coming along okay, Lilliputty. And isn't stressing you out too much.

Dex said...

It was very nice weather here today!

Louise Boyd said...

Here, too! And we've noticed something special about Charles: the sun makes him not a major dickhead :)
To be fair, though, that probably goes for me, too.
When do you think the ice cream truck will start coming back around? There's at least a dozen flavours you gotta try this summer.

I'm day three of eating Carrot Cake for dessert and I think I just hit my limit. I don't have your powers for sugar! It's the greatest failing of my existence -_-
That, and I've injured myself again (!) and now have to limp around like a sea captain.
My body is so mad at me and I don't know why! I'm hoping this fulfils the rule of three, though: laryngitis, stomach bug, injured foot. That has to be the end of it, surely? *-*

Are you getting used to your parents being back yet? Or are you escaping regularly? I imagine your mum bringing back all that energy must be kinda... dizzying?

Dex said...

Monthly & playlist :D

I hope you and Charles get much sun these next 6 months :) And I actually saw the ice cream van parked outside Clickimin! I will definitely be asking you to pick my flavours :)

Carrot Cake is one of those things that I would never choose for myself unless I knew it was made by your sisters. In that case, I would be all over it :) I did buy Ferrero Rocher today. They were on deal so I had to :)

Oh Maggot! How did you manage to injure yourself? I really wish your body gave you an easier time. If I lived close by, I would definitely be using your injury as an excuse to bring you things :)

Having my parents here is really taking some getting used to! I'd gotten into a comfortable routine in their absence. And My mother has fully reclaimed her chair! I am hoping they will go to Sandness fairly frequently to give me a break...

Dex said...

My parents should be going to Sandness this weekend so I might get a little bit of a break...

Louise Boyd said...

For your sanity, I think that's probably the best for everybody :)
I wish my parents had a beach house I/they could run away to sometimes. Although, I bet I'd freak myself out being out there on my own and convince myself a kelpie would slink out of the sea and drag me to my watery death *-*
It could happen...

Dex. I unlocked a new obsession:

Dr Pepper Cherry

It's a limited run (I now have a six pack in my fridge) and so freaking good!
Normally, I'm a purest about DP being as good as it's ever gonna get and doing weird versions of it never live up to the OG hype, but not in this case. Cherry for the win.
If you can find it in your Tesco, I demand you try it!
...
And also visit the Cake Fridge because they have Mini Egg Crookies again!

Injury report: on the mend ^-^
You're always hearing about my woes, but that about Dex's?
Got any vicious paper cuts lately? Fought off a neighbourhood squirrel and acquired a gnarly war wound?

I know you like Charlie updates: today we found him licking the brick path outside the front door.
We found no evidence as to why he was licking bricks, but he seemed to be enjoying himself, so...

Dex said...

I promise that the house in Sandness is far away enough from the sea that kelpies are quite unlikely :)

I really do love it when you get excited about finding a new favourite thing :D I hope you manage to stock up on enough DP Cherry to last you forever :) Or that they decide it's too good to be limited! I will definitely keep a look out for it in Tesco. The best things sometimes don't find their way up here but hopefully this time...

I made a terrible mistake today Lilliputty! I went too late to the cake fridge this morning and they were completely sold out! By 8.45am! I'm going to start going at 7am. Or camp overnight! I'm so sad that I missed out on the Mini Egg Crookies :(

I love Charlie updates :) Maybe he was cleaning the path. Or pretending it was an ice lolly :)

I hope you know that you can always tell me about all of your injury/illness woes. I'm probably due an injury very soon! I haven't had a proper one since that time I walked into the hallway door in them middle of the night and cut my forehead like an idiot. I still have a light scar as proof of my stupidity :)

Dex said...

The rentals have now gone to Sandness so I get some time myself this weekend :) I've also done the hoovering. I always feel better after hoovering! I'm such a weirdo :)

Louise Boyd said...

It's official: the crookies are cursed 0_0
You're either never going to get one, or it'll be some kind of divine intervention that finally places this delicious hybrid in your sugared up paws.
I'm rooting for the latter!

Hoovering follow up question: is it the act itself that makes you feel better, or the result?
Because the act is terrible and hateful and I will be perplexed by your general being for a while discovering this fact about you. But if it's the result? Totally understandable, clean floors are epic. I endorse them highly (says the woman who leaves vacuuming so long it doesn't border obscene, it's build a castle in the belly of obscene. With a moat. And a turret).

I don't know why, but I've convinced myself that Easter is next weekend. ... And it very much isn't. And now I'm sad because there's no chocolate eggs in my immediate future.
I'm gonna have to bully Sarah into making something to sate my cravings. Any suggestions?

I'd totally forgotten you'd bonked your head! But at least we have matching forehead scars, now? And mine's from just as stupid an injury as yours :D
Scar buds!
Don't injure yourself while the rentals are in your totally free of Kelpies escape house, though *-*

Dex said...

The next time there are crookies, I will set my alarm for an hour earlier. Maybe two to be on the safe side :)

Oh, it's definitely the results of hoovering (rather than the hoovering itself) that gives me a good feeling :) I really don't like cleaning at all but I enjoy things being clean. Hopefully you don't have to re-evaluate your opinion of me now :) And I don't believe anything in your house is a castle in the belly of obscene! As much as I loved you coming up with that line to describe it :D

I have a terrible admission to make. I've already had two Easter Eggs so far! I think there are so many things that I would get your sisters to make if I could :) Maybe some kind of coffee based dessert? That is what I am craving at the moment anyway :)

I do very much like that we are scar buds. It makes me feel so much better about having it :)

Dex said...

I did try to make up for the lack of crookies on Friday but getting more French Toast and maple syrup from Fjara at the weekend :)

Louise Boyd said...

I commend your dedication to putting a bastardised French pastry into your stomach. Gold star for effort.
I've never had French toast with maple syrup. With jam - which is excellent, but never syrup. Gotta sort that out, asap.
What I really want is custard filled French toast, though *-*

A coffee-based dessert, you say?
WELL! We do have this family recipe that is simply called "Coffee Cake", which is stacks of plain rectangular biscuits bound together with coffee buttercream.
It's at least a few generations old through my maternal grandmother's side (so maybe it's a Belgian thing, I'm not sure) but it's fucking delicious and you'd love it.
It's not crunchy, because the buttercream soaks into the biscuits, but it's not squishy either. Soft firm, let's put it that way. And you can only really eat small sections at a time (maybe not you, though, Captain Candyclaws) because it's super rich and sweet but the coffee cuts through that enough to not make it sickly.
It's so fucking good.
The closest recipe I can find is a Portuguese one:

https://www.portrecipes.com/recipe/758/1/Portuguese-Maria-Biscuits-with-Coffee-Cake-Recipe

Ours has more biscuit layers so it's really dense, but otherwise, basically the same.
If I could send you one, I would! Do you know anyone who bakes who would take pity on you? :)

It's so sunny here I think I burnt my nose a little.
I swear to fucking god, if this is our summer, I might scream >_<

Dex said...

Your poor nose :) I hope Charlie is enjoying the weather too :) And the forecast for Blair does look very nice for the rest of the week!

Please get Sarah to make the family Coffee Cake :) And then come back here and describe it to me again :) It sounds like something that might even defeat Captain Candyclaws but I think there is very little doubt that I would love it! Probably enough to attempt to make it myself :) I didn't know your family had Belgian connections! Did one of your grandmothers also have a secret recipe book? I imagine your family having so many secret recipes hidden in books :)

Dex said...

Just so you know that I am keeping up with my duties as Captain Candyclaws, I have bought a bag of Haribo Starmix to work through tonight :)

Dex said...

I really do love looking through the mixed cds you made for me with the perfect cover art and song selections :)

Louise Boyd said...

Okay, but what size of bag?
If it's your regular Haribo Starmix bag, then I could smash that in twenty minutes, if I'm being lackadaisical about it, and I'm not a Captain of any Candyclaws!
But if it's a big bag, which I'm not even sure exists, then I'll be impressed.
What's your favourite Haribo?
Personally, I'm a Tangfastics girl, because citric/malic acid is king, and specifically the cherries/cola bottles.

Can't believe I never told you I'm part Belgian!
It's only an 1/8th on my mum's side, but yeah, Belgian blood runs rampant through my veins :) My gran, who's lived in Scotland since she was eleven, still has the accent. She doesn't hear it, but it's definitely there, mixed in with gruffness of Glasgow. It's a nice sound.
But, alas, she doesn't have a secret recipe book. Or maybe she does and it's so secret I've never discovered it?! She is a pretty great cook, though. Makes the best mince tart in the world, and a meringue dessert called Gâteau Diane - you'd love it, it's crunchy and rich as fuck. We've yet to prise the recipes from her <_< Both my grandmothers are like this! They won't share their secrets >_<
Are you grandparents like this or are the normal and beneficent? 0_0

Alright, Dexterous, we're gonna try this one last time (< a lie, we're trying this until you get one!); the Crookies are back, and by hook or by crook, you will march your Lerwickian arse up that hill tomorrow and get your sugary prize! I don't care if you're limping, or there's a distracting pigeon, you will scramble towards that fridge like the hounds of hell are after you! Do. you. understand? *-*

Louise Boyd said...

Ps. I was yelling at you about cake when your latest message came in. Sorry, not sorry?
I can't remember how many mixes I made you. Was it nine? I feel like it's nine because there's a part of my brain that's annoyed I didn't make it to a round number...

Dex said...

You would be very proud of me, Lilliputty. At least, I hope so :) I marched up that hill at 7.30am and managed to nab myself some Crookies :) And I didn't care how bloody stuffed just one of them made me, there was no way in hell I was sharing them with anyone who wasn't you :)

I promise it was just a normal sized Starmix :) I quite like the Sour Sparks too. Because unlike most things that claim to be, they are actually very sour :) Maybe you would like them too...

I love learning new things about you! I just wish I could hear your gran's Belgian/Glasgow accent :) And Gateau Diane looks and sounds amazing! I hope you manage to get the recipe from her one day :) Both my grans aren't around anymore and I don't really remember their cooking. I think my mum used to take over cooking duties when we visited West Kirby and my gran seemed only too happy to let her :) My dad's cooking days are behind him but he used to make a really excellent Yorkshire pudding :)

I've just counted and you did make me 10 mixes :D

Louise Boyd said...

Victory!
I was only marginally afraid the Crookies wouldn't live up to expectations, but thank fuck they did :D
Is there cookie on the inside or is only on the outside? I need details!

Making Yorkshire puddings always seemed really intimidating to me *-* All that hot oil? Super impressed your dad made those. And jealous you got to eat them :)
I wonder if you could use a Yorkshire as a delivery system for something sweet...
You can *-*

https://www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/recipes/desserts/sweet-yorkshire-puddings

This sounds so freaking good.
Fruit should always be caramelised, imo.

At some point I'll dig out my external hard drive so I can see all ten mixes and cringe over what nonsense I made you listen to.
...
Hell, none of it was nonsense, it was all awesome ^-^
The mix you made for me sits happily amongst the miscellaneous section of my cds. It's a good section :)

Dex said...

Not to make you too jealous but they had a sort of gooey cookie dough centre :)

I would definitely be on board with using Yorkshire puddings for that :) Fortunately, my mother is now an expert at making them so I don't have to do without :)

All of the music you sent me was excellent :) I always enjoyed how you would make them up with songs you know I wouldn't normally listen to but would probably like and then add a few that you were absolutely certain I would love :D

Dex said...

I was just looking through some of those mixed CD covers - you definitely know what I like :)

Howl's Moving Castle
Cowboy Bebop
Gizmo
Wednesday Addams
Muppets' Christmas Carol
The NeverEnding Story
Mario & Yoshi

Dex said...

I see on the met office that Blair has been getting the rain the same as us. I hope you and Charlie are out enjoying the sun again soon :)

Louise Boyd said...

=/
It doesn't look like it. My body's gone completely haywire with the weather change. Going from 18C to 10C in one day? I may as well've been dunked in an ice bath. And Charlie's doing no better! So grumpy and blaming us entirely for the rain.

Not to make you too jealous but they had a sort of gooey cookie dough centre :)

For real might be the meanest thing you've ever said to me *-*

You know the best way to make a mixtape? And the rules I always follow?
These:

https://youtu.be/IzQwbRdh5Ts?si=GZA1kMrwLw-yS9Pf

Hasn't failed me yet :)
I loved making these for you, and the covers were kind of the best bit, even if I did go slightly bonkers each time I made one because I forgot every damn time to permanently resize the flat lay >_<
Nothing more rage-inducing than doing design work on a Word doc *-*
Obvs, if I made you one now it'd have to be murder mystery themed :)

Dex said...

I'm sorry the covers took so much work but they always looked perfect :) I do love my murder mysteries... I really have turned into such an old man :)

I think the reason I was never any good at making playlists is that all of my music tended to be my favourite dream pop genre. Your playlists were always so good because they were a proper mix of different music that somehow went together as well! I do still love my dream pop though :)

I hope you have something sugary and delicious to make me jealous very soon :) And some sun and warmth too! I hope Charlie finds somewhere comfortable to hide in the meantime :)

Dex said...

I managed to injure myself again in a very stupid fashion. I was falling asleep last night and I had my right hand on my head... Suddenly, my arm had a spasm and my nails made quite a deep scratch on my forehead!

Louise Boyd said...

Confession: I laughed a little when I read that XD
But mostly out of sympathy because I've totally done the same! And pretty recently :)
How bad is it, though? Do you look live you've been Wolverined? Is it worthy of a plaster? Trick question, every injury's worthy of a plaster!
And Easter goodies. I was gonna lay off the Cake Fridge this week after the epic Crookie success, but... it's Easter and you're injured, so CF it is!
Your choices are:

- White Malteser Bunny Millionaires
- Mini Egg Millionaires

Why are the Malteser Bunnies so darn cute?
Gotta eat the ears first. Than the paws. And finally the belly, where all the good stuff lives ^-^

The big ball of fire in the sky is trolling me <_<
9C and drizzling, but periodically really sunny.
I hate it here =_=
And the chai I made tastes like pencil shavings! This happens periodically and I don't know whyyyyyy.

Dex said...

Cake fridge again?! You are very good to me :D

I was hoping that my ridiculous injury would make you laugh :) No plaster though, only because I didn't realise how bad it was until the morning! Fortunately, it is just high enough that my fringe does mostly cover it :)

I am definitely going to follow your Malteser bunny eating method :)

I do hope that your next chai latte tastes much better! And that you are enjoy it in the garden on a proper sunny day :) Hopefully the sight of the sun did cheer up Charlie a little bit though.

Dex said...

I meant to say that Kerry has booked us somewhere in town to spend the Easter weekend just in case I go quiet for a couple of days!

The sun has come out today and I have Malteser Bunny Millionaires :)

Louise Boyd said...

Fuck yeah, you do! :D
Hope you enjoy your zombie Jesus weekend with Kerry :)
Personally, I'll be attempting to fit as many of Sarah's homemade jam finger buns in my mouth as possible ^-^
I'm aiming for a high number, wish me luck.

Hmm, even if your scratch isn't plaster-worthy, I'm still gonna visualise it as an epic war wound won through hard battle.
...
Which is really me with a looped gif in my head of you fighting a giant hand XD

Dex said...

I'm sorry for radio silence, Lilliputty. Kerry just booked us something in town so it feel a bit strange having a short holiday about 10 minutes from where I live :) But the flat is quite high up for Shetland so I'm enjoying spying what's going on down below :) Also, I feel such an old man about being excited that I can see from the window where I parked the car :) I bet both of us could get through about a hundred of Sarah's homemade jam finger buns :)

I really hope you enjoy Easter, Lilliputty. I'm sure you will with the jam finger buns :) My wound from fighting the giant hand has almost disappeared, I'm sure you'll be glad to hear :)

Louise Boyd said...

Happy Easter, Dexterous :)
I'm hoping you were devouring something sugar-made and preferably egg-shaped as you took in your lofty view.
Which I totally get. I love being up high. But in a totally safe way. With walls and barriers and no chance of falling to my death =/

Holy shit, you heal fast! I swear the scratch on my forehead lasted at least a couple weeks.
Is this one of your CC powers? Does all the sugar you consume make you invincible? *-*

I got such a blinding migraine today - which is totally typical - and Sarah had to force me to drink a dirty chai (coffee with a shot of espresso) to try and bully the headache back into the abyss.
It kind of worked but yuck! I am not a fan! Espresso should be saved for dessert and dessert alone.
Which I might be getting in the near future because my dad requested the infamous coffee cake :D
Did you have any of the Malteser Bunny Millionaire's left to take with you on your staycation?

Ps. The finger buns were more like bread but still pretty good! I might have to slice one open and add more jam, though. Jam is life.

Dex said...

I will credit my healing powers to the honey I keep putting on my face :)

I'm very sorry to hear about your migraine, Lilliputty. I hope the dirty chai helped even if it wasn't very pleasant! I do tend to use caffeine to try and kill my headaches too. Usually coca cola or red bull rather than strong coffee as I'm with you in that espresso should mainly be used for desserts :)

I didn't have any Easter Eggs at the weekend but the best time to get them is after Easter when they are all on deal :) But I did have some of the Malteser Bunny Millionaire's left and I'm very luck in that Kerry doesn't really like chocolate :)

Oh, I'm the same. Heights should only be enjoyed from the relative safety of the inside of a sturdy building :)

I bet those jam fingers are so easy to eat! Although more jam is always a good decision :)

Dex said...

I felt it my duty to buy the new Cadbury Dairy Milk Biscoff bar to try tonight :)

Dex said...

The Dairy Milk Biscoff has my seal of approval :)

Louise Boyd said...

I feel like you need a stamp for your sugar investigations.
"Captain Candyclawed!"
I'd try something with that stamped on it :D

I kept seeing these videos for migraine sufferers that their best remedy for it is sugar+salt+sleep, so they'd hit McDonalds for fries, a Coke, and then sleep it off in a dark room, and y'know? Kinda makes sense, right? I've been trying it out and the results are pretty good, tbh. I mean, nothing beats good ol' drugs, but a packet of crisps, a Dr Pepper, and a nap? Not bad!

Dex said...

I am fully in favour of that method of self medication, Lilliputty :) And sweet things always taste so much better after something salty. But more importantly, I'm very glad that it is helping to combat the migraines! Do you have a favourite flavour of crisps?

Dex said...

Apparently Blair will be getting 20+ degrees next week! I will try not to be too jealous :)

Dex said...

Do you ever go through phases of really wanting physical copies of things like films and books? I think I am going through one of those phases at the moment! I'm even considering getting a tv and blu ray player for my bedroom...

Dex said...

I was starting to get a headache yesterday afternoon so I thought I would try your crisps, fizzy drink and nap remedy. It definitely worked! Thank you, Lilliputty :)

Louise Boyd said...

Pseudo-science for the win :D
I know it won't work every time but at least it gives us more reasons to fill our faces with the good stuff ^-^

In reference to your potential home cinema: DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!
What blu-rays would you get first? I'm guessing to start with, old favourites?
I'd say I'd help you choose but I'd totally end up forcing you to buy things I want you to watch *-*
I do love having physical media, though. I wouldn't be without streaming or the Kindle app, but there's something more permanent and "mine" feeling than having a physical copy. It's why streaming apps bug me in a way because they won't ever commit their tv shows/movies to dvd. There are so many shows I'd love a copy of, and what makes it worse is that at any point they could remove the content from their apps altogether. Disney+ does this a lot and it bums me out -_-

Dex, I think I might be entering my "get off my lawn" era.
Y'know how I got new neighbours last year? Well, they're an older couple with grandkids. Noisy grandkids. Who installed a trampoline on Easter Sunday and play football 0_0
My old neighbour was so quiet and now it's all noise :(
And it gets worse because on the other side of the garden, there's a green just outside the hedge where kids, who've clearly just become old enough to be let loose on the neighbourhood, have started to play, but all they do is scream. Like, murder screams, not happy kid screams.
My nerves, Dex... I don't know if I can take it >_<

Dex said...

I'm so sorry, Lilliputty. I don't think you're being unreasonably grumpy at all about the noisy kids! We have a play park across the road and they make roughly the same sounds! Also, and this will make me seem like a very old man (even more than usual), but it really does shock me how much primary age children swear these days :S Hopefully they will visit less as they get older... Or find more inside hobbies :)

Definitely starting with the old favourites. You know me so well :) I used to be really into old films when I was in high school and I have been re-discovering them this last year or so. Probably a sign that I am getting old :) I definitely won't give up Prime or my Kindle though. I do love being able to take my Kindle with me anywhere and read my favourite books :) I really wish you could get your favourite streaming shows on physical media. It definitely would be a nice feeling to see these things on your shelves :) And it does make me sad that we don't live close together so you could force me to watch your favourite shows with you :)

Dex said...

I really hope you had a quieter day, Lilliputty, in the garden with a book, cold drink and nice weather.

Dex said...

I hope your April monthly and playlist is going okay, Maggot :)

Dex said...

I might go to the cake fridge tomorrow...

Also, monthly :D

Louise Boyd said...

There is no might, there is only will :D
But seeing as it's your decision to go, I'm gonna let you decide on what you get.
You've gotta tell me, though!

Noisy brats update: They were so loud yesterday, climbing the trees on our property, hitting the foliage with big sticks and then screaming their heads off.
It kind of broke me =/ Pure sensory overload and my nervous system just crapped out. All I wanted to do was sit in the sunshine and read my book, listen to the garden noises - had to put my headphones on eventually and listen to lo-fi.
It got so bad that my dad went out and told them to stop; their mum ended up coming over to see what was going on and she said she'd have a word with them but they were still doing it today. Not as bad, but still shouting all the time and coming really close to our house.
I hate it -_-
I feel invaded and grumpy and worried that this is just how it'll be from now on, and summer will suck and I'll be anxious forever :(
I didn't procreate and have no plans to, why do I have to listen to kid noises????? Why do I have to suffer?!

If you were going to get one physical copy right now of something you really love and don't have, what would it be?

Dex said...

I went for the Dubai Brownies and the Creme Egg Brownies. I know you would never have chosen the 2nd one for me but one of my friends at work can't have gluten and they were the only gluten free option so I hope that justifies it a little :)

I'm genuinely so angry for you right now, Lilliputty. I thought the noise was bad enough but invading/damaging the trees on your property is completely unacceptable. I'm glad your dad said something but I hope he doesn't have to keep telling off the little assholes and they get the hint. Please do try not to worry about it too much. Did you say it was the grandparents who live next door? Hopefully they start to visit less, or move away, or go on holiday, or get injured, or discover computer games, or grow out of the little asshole phase, or the grandparents/parents are actually reasonable people who will listen to your parents' complaints... Some kids really are obnoxious fucks these days, screaming the place down and damaging people's property with no regard for anything. I'd take you away with me somewhere quiet in a heartbeat if I could.

A physical copy of something I love... It would probably be music as I never buy physical copies anymore! Maybe the Just Give In/Never Going Home album by Hazel English as that is one of my favourites :)

Dex said...

I really hope you manage to enjoy a quiet weekend, Lilliputty.

Dex said...

Random question but what are you like around bees and wasps? I'm actually terrified of them! If one gets in the house, I hide in my bedroom until someone else has dealt with it :)

Louise Boyd said...

I'm surprisingly chill about bugs in general. I don't want them to touch me, per se, but I don't mind them hanging around. I will, however, politely escort bees and wasps from the building, whilst calmly explaining to them that a life inside a stuffy house with no flowers is not the life for them.
Which I would totally do for you as you hid :)
You cannot imaging the number of moths and spiders I have caught for other people. Resident bug catcher, that's me!

"...or get injured..."

Damn, so vicious :D
I don't think I've ever seen you get that worked up about anything before. Your rage for my predicament brings me much joy ^-^
And your mutual dislike of the youths :)
It does seem to have settled down a bit; there's still general merriment but the screaming's at a liveable decibel now, and the violence against flora is probably still happening but not on our trees.
I don't have much faith in it lasting, though. Kids are so stupid; you tell them no, and it'll last week, and then they're at it again.
So stupid. Tiny brains. What's the point of them?
...
I'm feeling very Herod, these days *-*

I had no idea Creme Eggs were gluten free!
I'm not sure I could survive without gluten =/ A life without bread? *shudder*
Creme Eggs are disgusting, though :) Just saying.

Ps. Hazel English - most excellent choice. I've never gotten over the album's namesake. Such a good song.

Dex said...

I really have never grown out of my love of dream pop :)

I definitely need a Lilliputty in my life. To catch the bugs. And to introduce me to awesome things of course :) But I just knew deep down that you would be good with bugs, being the generally excellent human being that you are :)

It's very easy being angry on your behalf, especially at anyone who stops my best friend enjoying her book time in the garden :) Maybe Emily could go down to the edge of the garden with a chainsaw the next time they start getting out of hand... I'm just assuming she has one :) And you know that I am always here whenever you need to vent, especially against intolerable children!

I hope you still get plentiful supplies of freshly home baked bread and jam :)

Dex said...

My mother has bought me something called Biscoff Fudge Slices. I approve :)

Dex said...

I meant to ask, is there a physical copy of something you love that you don't have?

Dex said...

I really hope you and Charlie manage to enjoy the nice weather :)

Louise Boyd said...

Important business first: It's the last cake fridge until the 30th (!), so you MUST go.
There's a problem, though: the Crookies are back and there are also Bueno Brownies.
...
It's the Sophie's Choice of desserts *-*
But I don't have to make it, you do! :D

A physical copy of something I love but don't have? It's gotta be... can I have two? I need two. The Magicians complete box set and the Please Like Me complete box set. The latter is SO hard to find :( It's one of my favourite shows and its only streaming on Hulu, which we can't get in this country >_<
I hate region licensing. It's so stupid.

It's been so nice here, Dex; not always warm but so sunny. It's making me realise just how much I do not go outside for like six months of the year. I'm like Persephone but without the kickass powers x_x
How's the tiny isle? Please tell you're getting some good weather. I worry for your bones!

Ps. How ere the Biscoff Fudge Slices? They sound frickin' amazing *-*

Dex said...

I'm sorry for the very short message, Lilliputty, and for not messaging yesterday. Kerry booked us a weekend in Scalloway so I'm currently in a seaside hotel with nice weather and a nice view! I'm so glad that you have been getting plenty of sun. I'll be home later today so will be able to message properly this evening. I hope you are in the garden with the sun, a book, cold drink and Charlie :)

Dex said...

Back home now :)

You placed me in a difficult position on Friday :) But I went for the Crookies and I did not regret my decision :) The Biscoff Fudge Slices were very good too. I certainly can't fault them for failing to live up to their name - they were very Biscoffy and Fudgy :)

Not being able to get your favourite shows on dvd or blu ray is definitely one of the most frustrating things! I hope you find them one day. I think Kerry has The Magicians box set as I remember her making me watch the first couple of episode :)

Please don't worry about my bones as we have been having some very nice weather these last few days :) Very sunny and about 14c which is considered a warmish day in Shetland but probably not in most other places :) The hotel room had a nice view of the sea and it was very pleasant lying in a comfortable bed in the morning with the sun coming in :)

Louise Boyd said...

I'm starting to think you and Kerry are staycation addicts *-*

Dex said...

To be honest, Kerry tends to book these things when she has had a few too many glasses of wine! I really have very little input :)

Louise Boyd said...

Haha, love how you just throw your gf directly under the bus :D

Dex said...

Just re-reading the April monthly. Your plant growing skills are really quite something, Maggot :)

Dex said...

Just in case you're interested in seeing the number of cruise ships we have to put up with this summer :) - https://www.lerwick-harbour.co.uk/sectors/cruise/2025

Louise Boyd said...

*-*
Little Lerwick's like the high class escort of cruise ships: always open for business.
How do you even put up with that many tourists without losing your mind?!

I gotta tell you Dex, I appreciate the plant admiration, but genuinely, it's a "they live or they die" situation in Maggot's Windowsill Garden. I don't do much at all 0_0
I did just buy a swing for my Philodendron Brasil so it can trail properly, though. Should be arriving tomorrow or the next few days after. I'm embarrassingly excited to hang it :D

I found a new drink, Dex!
Kenco Millicano Cadbury Mocha, but make it an iced drink.
It tastes like when you're two thirds done with a chocolate Frappuccino and it's mostly water but still tastes good. The only problem is a couldn't sleep properly because of the caffeine =/
I'm gonna try making it by mixing hot chocolate powder with decaf instant and see if I can make it less volatile.
My exact instructions if you wanna try!:

1. Add 3-4 tsps of KMCM (or makeshift version) to your mug of choice
2. Add enough boiling water to make a paste
3. Set aside/put in fridge to cool
4. Add 2/3 water, and the rest milk (or vice versa, or just milk)
5. Stir until unexpected froth appears
6. Drown required number of ice cubes
7. Wait five minutes for the drink to get properly cold

And then try not to guzzle it down in two gulps ^-^

Dex said...

I don't know how they manage to trick so many cruise ships into coming here. And the passengers do tend to wander around Lerwick like zombies. The nice weather brings out the cyclists too. I always feel so nervous when I have to overtake one on the road. I'm such a grump :)

I'm excited for you too :) I may be hoping that you post a photo of the new swing on next month's monthly...

I am definitely going to try making that drink! Although I can see myself making it with mostly milk :) You do introduce me to the best things :)

Dex said...

I hope it is still ridiculously sunny in Blair :)

Dex said...

I bought some of the KMCM this morning so I can try making Maggot's iced mocha :)

Louise Boyd said...

You give me too much power, Dexterous! Next I'll be instructing you to eat Haribo on Nutella Toast *-*
...
I'd actually try that =/

How'd the drink-making go, though? Were we successful or did I force you to make something abominable?
I tried the makeshift version, today. ... Not as good. More like cold hot chocolate, which isn't bad, but it wasn't KMCM :(
Why can't there be a decaf version? Whyyyyyy?

23C today! And I haven't been burnt, yet! I'm so gonna miss this when the summer months are just endless rain -_-
Poor Charlie, though, he was just a puddle of fluff all day today. At one point I found him on his throne (a gabion bench my dad made) and he was so limp, he just rested his overheated little head in my palm. He never does that. He's usually so mean to me!
Thanks, sun :D

You'll be happy to know that the Boyd drivers exclusively hate cyclists :)
It's always fun being a passenger and listening to the drivers threaten to run the cyclists over ^-^

Dex said...

Haribo on Nutella Toast... I mean, we could pretend that it was a serious suggestion :D

The drink-making went very well! Thank you, Lilliputty :) As you probably guessed, i did use just milk at step 4 and just about managed to not guzzle it down in two gulps :) I'm sorry that the decaf version didn't work for you though. But I'm sure you'll find a way :)

The thought of Charlie resting his little head in your palm really does make me very happy :) And 23c! I'm very jealous :) It never gets that high up here. Or rather, it did once. Apparently 23c was our record high :)

I'm sure you would find it fun being a passenger with me when stuck behind a cyclist :) And it does make me feel much better knowing your family gets grumpy with them too :)

Dex said...

I know I was complaining about Lerwick never reaching 23c but today did feel quite close :)

Dex said...

Exciting news! Freya may be coming up in July :)

Dex said...

We were supposed to be getting one of those smart meters installed today but apparently our fuse box is so old that it wasn't possible so we have an electrician coming tomorrow to look at it. I'm very worried that it's going to escalate into the whole house having to be rewired :S

Dex said...

We finally had some rain here today! I think it has been about 3 weeks!

Dex said...

I'm sure you'd approve of my lunch today. French toast with maple syrup and a vanilla iced latte :)

Dex said...

Parents are in Sandness this weekend so I will definitely be taking advantage of the peace and quiet :)

Louise Boyd said...

Woah, sorry for the radio silence, Fungus, it's been a weird week at sea.
And it finally started raining yesterday, and I'm real bummed about it >_<
Logically, I know we need it so this stupid hose pipe ban we've been on for the past couple of weeks can end, but arghhhhh, I miss the sunshine, already :(
It was so muggy today, though. I hate mugginess, it's the worst kind of heat! Charlie's fur's doubled in size from the humidity!

How are the smart meter woes? Will the Eva homestead need rewiring or are you safe from invasion?
I remember I had this same panic when they came to check our boiler and we thought they'd potentially have to redo the pipes, which would've meant ripping up floorboards in every room =/ Thankfully, nothing come of it, but ooft, did my anxiety reach epic levels.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you won't have to experience the fresh hell of home renovations!

Freya! Is it confirmed yet?!
