Hopefully the last few weeks were just the start of a nice summer :) There was a lot of rain here yesterday and the forecast for the next week looks very showery. 3 weeks without rain in Shetland does feel like some kind of record!

I'm sorry, Lilliputty. Muggy weather is not pleasant at all. Fortunately, living by the sea means that we don't really experience it up here, although we certainly have plenty of other disadvantages when it comes to weather :) I am trying to picture Charlie in the humidity... Hopefully his fur is back to normal size soon and you are both enjoying warmth in the garden :)

To be fair, no one except my own imagination has said anything about rewiring the house :) Someone should be coming to look at the fuse box next week so I will probably just keeping thinking the worst as usual. It does make me feel so much better that we both panic about things like this though :)

No further news of Freya's visit but her mum is so unpredictable that I never think any of their plans are set in stone!

Dex said...

I hope this week is a slightly less weird one for you, Maggot :)

Dex said...

Freya did send me a random emoji text the other day :) I have no idea what chicken legs, cheese, fried eggs, penguins, a blue heart, peanuts and woolly mammoths mean but it made me laugh :)

Louise Boyd said...

It's got to be code for something, surely? In a millennia, they'll discover Freya's messages and decipher what she's saying and it'll be life-altering, I bet you anything.

There's a word for the panicking-over-things-that-haven't-happened-yet-and-might-not-ever thing we do. It's called catastrophising, and I am the reigning monarch of it.
So, I feel your pain. I dread the day strangers have to enter the house and fuck shit up for the better *-*
Like my window! The double glazing went years ago, and it's just one of those things that gets dropped down the To Do List for more important things. But I'm not really fussed because I don't want anyone in my room touching my stuff :)

Charlie has discovered a new bed: the new neighbour's trampoline.
...
He is an embarrassment -_- But the neighbours think it's hilarious.
I'm only slightly worried about when the grandkids come over and discover a mean, little beast in their area of play. If he bites them, we're fucked >_<

Did you know Cola Bottle Jaffa Cakes are a thing?
I'm kind of obsessed with them *-*

Dex said...

Cola Bottle Jaffa Cakes?! How does that work?! You discover all the good things. And then are kind enough to tell me about them :)

I would be so excited to see Charlie sleeping in our garden :) And I can imagine that lying on a trampoline on a sunny day is definitely not a bad way to spend your time :) I really hope that things have been much quieter around you recently.

I'm definitely going to have to remember catastrophising :) I hope you never have to put up with strangers in your bedroom. It's really is very annoying that things don't last forever and need fixed! But hearing that we both get stressed about these things makes me feel much better :) I don't know how we would cope together but I'm still sure we would :)

Dex said...

I hope Blair hasn't been as rainy as Lerwick these last few days.

Dex said...

Parents have gone to Sandness again so I am enjoying a quiet Friday night in the living room. Also I had 2 x caramel iced lattes today!

Dex said...

Hopefully your May monthly is going okay, Lilliputty :) I will keep a look out for the Cola Bottle Jaffa Cakes when I am in Tesco later.

Dex said...

Sadly, I wasn't able to find the Cola Bottle Jaffa Cakes. I just bought more Kinder Buenos instead :)

Louise Boyd said...

Booo to Lerwick Tesco! Lerwesco?
You'll just have to take my word for it that they're weirdly good, and look for McVitie's Digestive Caramel Millionaire Slices, instead. They legit taste like Millionaire Shortbread, I was so surprised *-*

Dex? When's it going to stop raining? I miss going outside >_< and it being warm instead of this humidity with a cool bite (so unfair you don't get humidity!).
It's been fucking biblical here. It's raining right now.
Make it stoppppppp.

I've got my first speech therapy appointment via video call on Tuesday. It's at 11am and I'm really hoping I won't look as dead as I'll feel 0_0 I did a test call today and I swear, it's like looking at a ghost. I am the undead. A vampire who hasn't seen the sun in a thousand years. You could use me as a light reflector in photography shoots!

Dex said...

Lerwesco better have those! They sound like something I would completely monster in 30 seconds :D I'm very glad that you share this vital information on sugar with me :)

I don't think you would have been jealous of our weather on Saturday night with the rain genuinely lashing against the windows in the sun lounge. Although it does feel quite pleasant to be inside on nights like that :) We are getting four seasons weather at the moment - it seems to change every hour!

I really hope your appointment goes okay, Lilliputty. I definitely wouldn't worry about looking pale. I remember seeing photos of you from years ago and you looked pale in the best possible way :)

Louise Boyd said...

Sugar fiends share their sugary finds with their fellow sugar fiends. It's the law. They'd put me in gingerbread jail if I didn't *-*

Decided to change my setup for the ST appointment and I look way less dead using my iPad instead of the webcam. There's actual life in my cheeks instead of soul-sucked despair :D
Now, I'm just hoping it doesn't take the hour they say most appointments go on for. I can't people for that long, Dex, I start to disintegrate >_< And there won't be a Freya to lick me through the screen!

So... your weather sounds bonkers. We've had the epic rain but no lashing of windows 0_0
I will agree that being inside when it's raining heavily is one of life's smuggest pleasures. Only improved by a good book/tv show/movie, cup of tea, and a biscuit. It's the ideal setup.

Dex said...

We would definitely eat our way out of that jail :)

I hope your appointment went well, Lilliputty. And that is was over fairly quickly! I won't pry but you know you are always welcome to tell me anything you like :) Freya did send me a random gif of a little girl angrily eating a sandwich the other day :)

More confusing weather today :S And we are at that time of year where it is almost always light outside. Is it like that in Blair? If I lived with you, I like to think that is how would would spend most of your rainy days :)

Louise Boyd said...

First speech therapy appointment, completed! My reward was tea and a crumpet afterwards :)
It went so much better than I thought it would, and my therapist is lovely, but the exercises I have to do are kind of hilarious. Most of them are me blowing bubbles with a straw in 5cm of water whilst doing a variety of humming noises, culminating in humming the Happy Birthday song.
The first time I tried I absolutely covered myself in water :D
I've got an industrial sized cup, now, so it's less like having your birthday at Niagara Falls.
Next appointment is next Tuesday. Fingers crossed I'll be able to talk a little more like a normal by then ^-^

I really want to see this angry sandwich girl gif *-* I feel like she'd match my energy.

Blair is also experiencing befuddled weather. It's raining one minute, sunny the next, then a combo of the two, and the wind is out of control.
Charles has been super grumpy about it all day. He bit, hissed at, and scratched my dad, this morning, for no reason other than he's a moody sod who can't handle a healthy gust of air.
Brat :)
It stayed light until around nine-ish, today. I'm uncontrollably excited about longer days >_<

Dex said...

As requested :) I definitely feel like this could be you, me or Freya :)

https://tenor.com/view/food-angry-kid-eat-gif-15898258

That's really great to hear, Lilliputty :D And such a relief. I know how much you were worrying about your appointment. I hate to think how much water I would spill trying those exercises while humming the HB song :) I'll definitely be keeping my fingers crossed for next time! And hoping that you get more tea and crumpet as a reward :)

I know we both had a few weeks of very nice weather in May but surely we still deserve more, if only to make Charlie happy :) You've pretty much described our weather today, except even less sun :S I do love the long days though :)

Louise Boyd said...

Hahaha that's epic. I can just image our little coven of furious snackers, glaring at the general populace but actually having the best time because our snacks are of the highest quality :D

Y'know, all I really want the stupid weather to right now is to warm the hell up. It can rain if it wants to, be so windy is shakes the trees, I don't care, just do it at a temperate where I can wear, at the very least, my lightest sweatshirt.
It feels like October, I'm wearing multiple layers and thickish socks, and I'm livid over it >_<
I'm making chai tomorrow just to be spiteful <_<
Which reminds me! I had the best Frappuccino in the known universe last week: Tiramisu *-*
Dex. Fungus. CPT. C-C. It actually tasted like tiramisu; not a watery version, but actual tiramisu. I made the stupidest happy noise when I took my first sip.
I don't know if they're a permanent fixture at Starbucks, but if you leave the tiny isle, GET ONE *-* It'll change your entire life.
...
And your bank account because you'll drink six a day :D

Ps. My voice is way better already. Five months of vocal hell and all it took was a damn straw!

Dex said...

That's great news, Lilliputty :D By the sounds of it, you might be back to normal by your next appointment! And I bet you're an expert at the straw exercises now :)

It's at times like this that I'm glad that you don't live in Shetland as I don't think you would put up with our weather at all :) Still, suffering together would make it nicer, I think. We could drink chai lattes and watch films :)

You always know how to make me jealous :) They are magicians at Starbucks! Please tell me that you'll be able to get another one soon! Imagine we had a Starbucks and bookshops day... Tiramisu Frappuccinos followed by wandering around bookshops. Then repeat :)

Louise Boyd said...

It's a goddamn miracle. I can talk :D
There's still quite a lot of tightness in my throat and the back of my mouth, but I reckon that'll ease the longer I do the exercises, but it's sooooo much better. I hadn't realised how much I was talking from my throat and not my mouth *-* It's like a switch has been hit and I know what I'm supposed to do again!
I think you should visit the cake fridge tomorrow and get a box of Nutella Oreo Caramel Slice to celebrate ^-^ And maybe a caramel latte to go with to really put yourself into a sugar daze.
I don't know when I'll get another Tiramisu Frappuccino but I'm damn well getting at least another couple over the summer, because I checked and it's only available during those months.
...
Damn these seasonal menus!
The other months are rubbish for non-coffee drinkers :(
Did I tell you we tried their signature Matcha drink a while ago? Truly one of the vilest things I've ever tasted. Like cold lettuce soup with sugar in it. Dis-gusting! I'm sure Asia does it way better than us but I'm gonna stick with my Italian dessert based drinks :)
Which is totally what I'd get if we had a bookshop day. We'd get sugared up, then I'd leave you in the mystery section, plonk myself down in the SFF section, and reconvene for another sugar high :D

Dex said...

It's very annoying when they come out with an amazing new flavour but it turns out to be only temporary! If something's that good, why not keep it on? Maybe there's a homemade version we could try to make when they stop selling them... I really hope you get a few more though. Is the Starbucks you go to next to a bookshop? You definitely deserve plenty of Starbucks and bookshop days :) I think I've told you that used to be one of my favourite things to do in Edinburgh. Starbucks, Waterstones and HMV were all right next to each other. I really would have been very happy spending most of my days there :)

Thank you for the warning! Although we both know I would never get a matcha based drink when there are dessert frappuccinos available :)

I hope you are using your re-discovered voice to dish out plenty of sarcastic insults to your family. I know they will have missed those :) I will definitely be thinking of you when I eat the rest of the NOC slices :D

Dex said...

I was very happy to see Hazel English in your May playlist :D

Dex said...

I really hope that it is starting to warm up in Blair.

Louise Boyd said...

Warm in Blair, it is not. It's grey and cold and my cells feel limp -_-
This stupid country really needs to get the memo that it's June, which means it's summer, so could it please get its miserable head out its arse because I need vitamin D and I'm sick of supplementing it with pills <_<
...
As you can see, I'm delighted by the weather right now :)

Never Going Home Again got thrown in the playlist about twelve seconds after we talked about!

Blair's Starbucks is in this mini area with a Lidl and a Home Bargains that was built a few years ago down by one of the main roads that leads you out of town. It's very dinky, but the area's kind of sad. Very industrial. No life to it. And they built over one of my favourite fields. I used to walk through it to get to the woods that lead to my gran's house. It had horses in one of the paddocks :(
I'm not sure the Tiramisu Frappuccino, as good as it is, was worth losing a nice field and pretty quadrupeds.
The bookshop is in town and I've never actually been in it *-*
Does Lerwick have a bookshop? Your entire island sounds nicer than Blairgowrie, tbh =/
I might just be used to it, though.

I'm very jealous of the Nutella slices, but Sarah made Millionaire's Shortbread today which has reduced my jealousy.
But only somewhat!

Dex said...

I do still love my dream pop :)

Lerwick does have a bookshop. The Shetland Times Bookshop. I used to work there when I was in high school :) They made us wear these terrible blue t-shirts. There was an optional dark jumper as well but the t-shirt had a large collar so it was impossible to hide! As you can probably tell from the name, the owners publish the local newspaper too. The busiest time was when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came out. We got these very specific instructions about how to store the books for security reasons and there was a midnight opening. I didn't work it though.

I'm sorry they built over a favourite field, Lilliputty. No kind of Frappuccino is worth that! Your journey to your gran's house does sound like something out of a fairy tale :) The same things happen here. I remember there was a farm near where Tesco is now that used to have a couple of peacocks and there must have been a pond too as I'm sure we used to feed the ducks :) It was a place we used to walk all the time when my mum was a childminder.

I do think Millionaire's Shortbread can sometimes be one of the best things, especially when one of your sisters is making it :D

Dex said...

One of the places in Shetland that hasn't seemed to have changed very much since I was little is Sandness. That still seems pretty much the same and that does make me quite happy :)

Dex said...

If Freya doesn't come up to Shetland in July, I will definitely consider a trip down to Aberdeen a little bit later in the year.

Dex said...

I went with Kerry and a few others to see the new Final Destination film at Mareel this evening. I used to think I was okay with gore but now I'm not so sure :S

Louise Boyd said...

Hahaha same :D
I love gore and horror, but yeah, sometimes a movie will come along and my stomach cannot handle it *-*
Was it any good, though? I've heard reviewers say it's better than the original movie, but I don't know if I buy that. I'm not really a FD franchise fan, per se, but the first one's damn good and the concept's cool.

I have a vague memory of you telling me you worked in a bookshop in high school, but it must not have a registered fully in my brain because otherwise I would've hoarded that piece information to be pissed at you for eternity because being surrounded by books all day and getting paid to do it sounds pretty epic.
...
But it's not, though. Is it? Because in my head working in a bookshop involves building myself a nest and scuttling away with all the new releases before anyone gets to them =/

Just gonna put this out there, you don't have to get them, but the Cake Fridge has a special Father's Day brownie called The Big Daddy which is three layers of goodness, which might actually be too much? But I dunno, sometimes you gotta take a risk and strip the enamel from your teeth with a potent influx of sugar *shrug*

If you go see Freya, you must spirit her away to Lerwick and keep her forever as the tiny isle's benevolent ruler.
Her royal pronouncements will be written entirely in emojis and her throne the shape of a dinosaur taking flight.
You will unfortunately have to be her royal jester. Sorry!

Dex said...

It was actually pretty good for what it was. Well, the bits I saw when I wasn't trying to hide :) But it has been so long since I have seen the original that I can't really compare. It's certainly better than the 4th one :) They really went all out on the opening premonition disaster (although I would certainly be careful watching it if you have a fear of heights!) and I liked the main character. I did think that the actor seemed like she might be half Filipino and I was right :)

I tell you so much nonsense about myself that I am surprised that you remember any of it :) Unfortunately, it really was a very small bookshop so there was no hiding in secluded corners. Hopefully one day we find that magical bookshop maze that we can get lost in :)

I should always listen to you as those Big Daddy Brownies did look amazing! And I've clearly stopped caring about the enamel :) I really would have got them today but we were getting a takeaway breakfast and I may have sugar overloaded again on French toast, syrup and caramel latte :S

I have a feeling that Queen Freya would be very demanding of her court jester :)

Louise Boyd said...

I'm sure she would still be benevolent in her demands. Like demanding you pre-wear all her extra long-trailing robes so she can steal them and run maniacally through the halls of her palace like an unhinged Batgirl.
There would be perks, though: you'd get to poison test all her doughnuts :D

Jfc, Dex, I feel like you've gotta eat some form of natural food after that sugar-fest. An apple or a slice of cucumber!
...
Do you hate cucumber? I have this weird feeling you might... ?

Are you like with Filipino actors the same way I am with Scottish ones? Weirdly pleased to see them? Especially when they're getting to use their own accents?
I find it so bizarre that English and American are basically the default accents for all movies. Like... accents are nice; even Scottish ones (not Dundonian, though. That's ugly =/ ) and I like hearing them! I like hearing accents I've never heard before! Hollywood needs a cultural boot up its arse :)
...
I will potentially watch FD: Bloodlines if it appears on any streaming services, though. Even the up high bits, which yes, I am indeed scared of heights, but I like being up high.
Sort that one out *-*

Dex said...

She really did seem to enjoy stealing my dressing gown :) And I'm sure I would be a very thorough tester for poisoned doughnuts :)

I'm actually fairly neutral on cucumber :) I'm not a big fan of celery though. I can eat it but I just think that it has a very weird taste. And I'm guessing that apple pie wouldn't count as fruit after the sugar fest? :)

I definitely liked finding that out as I thought she was really good in the film even before it crossed my mind that she might be part Filipina. But most of the time, I don't even think to look these things up! I did not even realise Olivia Rodrigo was half Filipina!

I definitely think it's usually nicer when people get to speak with their natural accent. People in films and tv shows do seem to put on fake accents for very little reason sometimes :S

I don't think I could sort out your feelings on heights/being up high - it's just part of what makes you my best friend :)

Dex said...

Someone at work was saying that there's a new kind of Twix which is similar to a Milky Way crispy roll! This must be investigated!

Dex said...

I think it's the biggest cruise ship in today :S

Dex said...

I forgot to say that I am off work for a few days this week. Fully planning to spend most of it with sugar and old films. I promise I will have some fruit too :)

Dex said...

Ugh, we have non-Freya visitors coming up in September and I am being kicked out of my bedroom for at least 3 nights to accommodate them :S

Louise Boyd said...

Ugh, unacceptable!
Where are you gonna sleep? On the couch? Like an animal?!
If this was me, I'd stage a coup and barricade myself in my room with a mini fridge and seven boxes of cereal :)

Have you found the new Twix? I'm desperate to know if they're any good. I love crispy sweet things >_<
...
There's a Bounty version, too!

Yet another thing we agree on: celery is not a good vegetable. Stringy with a bitter crunch. Not even peanut butter can improve on that shit.
And rhubarb's just the dessert version!
The degree of a disappointment and wtf-ness I experience when there's rhubarb pie instead of apple is vast-like. Why would you make rhubarb instead of apple?! It makes no damn sense!

Dex said...

They are going to put me upstairs in the music room. There's no bed in there so I will just be on a mattress. I'm not at all happy about being thrown out of my room. I didn't make too big a deal out of it since I understand that it is their house but it's just the sort of thing that makes me feel very shitty about living at home and my own small space not being respected. I'm sorry if that sounds very dramatic :)

I really hope you get to try the Twix crispy rolls. And the Bounty ones too :) Someone brought the Twix ones into work today as a welcome back from leave present so I can confirm that they are excellent :)

I would never make the mistake of serving you rhubarb pie instead of apple pie :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, no, I totally get that. It's like, you have this one space, totally yours, and you don't begrudge anyone stopping by, but it's your space, so you shouldn't have to relinquish it to anyone else.
I don't even like the idea of anyone else sleeping in my bed *-* Ew.
Is your brother getting yeeted as well? Could you stay with Kerry at least one of the nights? Man, I wish I had a partner so I could just be like "Bye, fuckers! I'm staying with this weirdo instead of you psychopaths for a while!" :D That'd be ace.

You gotta go to the Cake Fridge to soothe your bedless blues, Fungus, and it's a killer week: Flake 99 Brownies, Teacake Millionaire's, and Tiramisu Brownies!
I would buy them all and eat them for every meal *-*
The stomach ache would totally be worth it.

I would never make the mistake of serving you rhubarb pie instead of apple pie :)

Of course you wouldn't, because you know the consequences ^-^

Dex said...

I don't think staying a night at Kerry's will be an option. She did offer out of pity, but I know that she likes having her own space and her place is very small. Maybe a B&B! :) And my brother gets to keep his room, mainly because it is such a mess that it would be very embarrassing to put visitors in there :) My parents have tried to make it sound better by offering to buy a new bed for me (and my current bed really isn't fit for guests). I'll definitely be glad of a new bed but the thought of someone getting one into my bedroom and taking my old one out fills me with anxiety! I always imagine that you have a very comfortable bed :)

I went for the Flake 99 Brownies. I hope you approve of my choice :) The sprinkles sold it to me :) Although the Tiramisu Brownies did look amazing too! I did get my usual Friday iced latte. Salted caramel syrup today (as they were out of normal caramel). And it is quite warm here today. Although nothing compared to Blair it seems! 27c! I hope you and Charlie have been enjoying it, Maggot :)

Dex said...

Leftover Flake 99 Brownies for my breakfast :)

Dex said...

There's a chance that Freya may be flying up here on the 12th of July...

Dex said...

I hope the weather in Blair is better than here!

Dex said...

More Freya news! Her mum might be bringing her up on July 12th and leaving her here for a month!

Louise Boyd said...

Ahhhhhhh no way! :D
Do you feel blessed? Do you feel honoured? Are you prepared for that level of joy and physical harassment? :D :D :D
It's so silly to be as psyched as I am for you getting to spend a whole month with her but I am so psyched for you :D

Get a new bed, Dexterous. Take the bribe!
I'd kill for a new mattress (I'm too cheap to buy a new one ^-^); I basically murdered the current one by bending it in half every time I put a fitted sheet on =/
I just don't know how to do it any other way >_<

Ps. After that 27c day? Shitshow weather. I'm going to die of a vitamin D deficiency. Just you see. I'll crumble like a polo mint one of these days and it'll be the clouds covering that big ball of gorgeous fire in the sky's fault entirely 0_0]

Pps. Has the ice cream van been by lately?
Do you like Fabs? I've got a wicked craving for Fabs and Rowntree's Fruit Pastille Lollies.

Dex said...

I do love how happy you get for me :) I quite happy about it too :D But we will see what happens. Her mother really is unpredictable with her plans! As much as I will love spending time with Freya, I'm sure I will be exhausted by the end of it. She says she has been practising new fighting moves :)

I used to very much like a Fab although I haven't had one for ages! Do you have a favourite section? I can't quite remember what I thought about the Rowntree's Fruit Pastille Lollies but I have a random memory of the presenter from Eurotrash advertising them :S I really hope you get either one brought to you very soon :) The ice cream van hasn't been along the office this year at all! Hopefully over the next couple of months...

I don't like the thought of you crumbling like a polo mint! You and Charlie are definitely due a few weeks of warmth and sun! The only joy I get from the bad weather here is the tourists getting rained on because I am a very petty human :)

I will keep you up to date with bed news :) I reckon you would choose me an excellent bed :)

Dex said...

I decided to buy some Fabs on the way home :)

Dex said...

Schools holidays have started so hopefully things will be quieter in the office... But we do have such a huge backlog of work to get through!

Dex said...

I really do hope with it being the summer holidays that you don't have to put up with any noisy children hanging around near your house. You deserve so much quiet garden time this summer.

Dex said...

I hope the June monthly is going okay, Lilliputty.

Dex said...

The Fabs have definitely lived up to my childhood memories of them :)

Dex said...

Monthly :D

Dex said...

Apparently my uncle (my dad's brother) is coming up here at the end of August too. After Freya and before our September guests. I really hope there are no more visitors!

Louise Boyd said...

That's too many visitors, Dex. Too many! (except Freya, she's the perfect amount)
Will you lose your bed every time?
My uncle's coming up in August for my gran's (my/our) 100th birthday, but at least he'll be staying at her house 0_0
Maybe you should escape to Sandness and make camp there until the interlopers return whence they came.

Not gonna lie, the weather sucks here, so bad. One day it feels like summer, but like today it's raining, thundering, and lightning, whilst being warm enough for the air to feel like soup.
It's horrible x_x
This chai syrup has been helping, though:

Monin Chai Tea Concentrate

I make it with milk, water, and ice. It's the closest I've come to something resembling a takeout drink.
It'd be better if it was a Frappucino, though >_<
How's Lerwick fairing, weather wise? Any freak heat waves? Or has your wish of perpetual rain to drench the tourists come to fruition? :)

Dex said...

Sandness seems so far away and I can't really abandon Kerry. It is tempting though :) I'll be going over to her house later tonight to watch the Taskmaster final.

100! That's pretty incredible! And I love that she shares a birthday with us :) Will there be a big Bilbo Baggins type party?

I won't lose my bedroom to Freya, although she will no doubt try to invade it constantly :) I'm assuming that my parents may want to move me out when my uncle arrives as he is getting on a bit and we don't have a proper guest room.

I've never heard of a chai tea syrup before! You do find all the best things :) I'm sorry the weather has been poor in Blair. It hasn't been any better up here. The last couple of days were okay (not amazing but there was a half decent amount of sun and warmth), but before that we had very strong winds for summer and I don't think the next few days are looking very optimistic... At least the tourists won't be able to enjoy it :)

Louise Boyd said...

I love Taskmaster but I definitely only watch it when I'm I've got tunnel vision for it. I smashed my way through the entire thing last year and had the best time, but haven't watched it since.
I don't get hyper-fixations very often, but when I do, it's intense *-*

Uhhh the birthday will not be Baggins themed, even though that would be AMAZING. My gran's so not a nerd like her offspring and their offspring. She's very into Nordic Noir, so I could turn the gathering into a murder mystery but she might get mad at me if I get fake blood on her cream carpet ^-^
I've always thought this was a bit psychotic of her and my grandpa, decorating-wise. Who has cream carpets?! I'm low-key terrified every time I walk in their house!

The Cake Fridge has no updated their menu for tomorrow and I am unhappy! And deeply annoyed that you missed out on a Cake Tub from last week.
Whoever Rachael is, I love how her baking brain works. A whole tub of cake is a gift from the gooey gods.

Dex said...

Taskmaster is very much one of Kerry's go to shows. She likes to put it on for background TV when she doesn't want to watch something she has to pay attention to :) Did you have a favourite series during your watch through? I really liked series 16 (Julian, Lucy, Sam, Sue & Susan). This last one was pretty good too, even though one of the contestants made the very big mistake of wearing some very short shorts during their tasks :)

Cream carpets are definitely not the way to go! Although I think we may have had it in one of our rooms years ago. Possible the kitchen :S It's a wooden floor now. Our house seems to have been gradually taken over by wooden floors over the years - the kitchen, my parents' bedroom, the upstairs landing, the dining room, the sun lounge. The only carpeted rooms in our house nowadays are my bedroom, my brother's bedroom, the downstairs hallway and the music room. The music room has a very thick, dark carpet that my dad chose when redecorating it to celebrate his retirement about 20 years ago :) I don't know why like telling you these ridiculously unimportant things. Probably because you're my best friend :D

At least with missing the cake tub this time around, I still have something left to aim for :)

Dex said...

The rain really was ridiculously heavy here last night!

Dex said...

I'm sorry, Lilliputty, I keep meaning to ask how the voice exercises are going?

Dex said...

The sun came out today. But so did the flies! They are everywhere!

Dex said...

I really hope you and Charlie manage to enjoy all the sun and warmth this week that the met office says you will be getting :)

Double chocolate Kit Kat. The packaging said 'new' so I had to try it :)

Louise Boyd said...

...
AND?
Are double chocolate KitKats are feat of tastebud wonder or just... too much?!
I always thought it was bizarre how people got so excited about finding a KitKat that was all chocolate no wafer.
...
THE WAFER/CHOCOLATE COMBO IS THE BEST PART! *-*
...
This is the only way I'm allowed to shout right now :) Voice rehab is going great; I had my second appointment a couple of weeks ago and hopefully my final one will be on August 19th, but it all depends on how I'm progressing. I can mostly talk perfectly fine, but I was round my gran's at the weekend and just an hour of talking (shouting, really, she's pretty hard of hearing) absolutely shredded my throat *-* But it's a cumulative thing. The more I do my exercises and practice talking more, it'll be back to normal. My hay fever is really not helping, though. It's so stupid being allergic to the planet, you'd think the human race would've evolved past this by now >_<
Have you had a midge/mosquito invasion yet? I murdered my first mozzie, today :) I don't normally kill bugs but they can get it. Nasty little fuckers.

Favourite season of Taskmaster? Ohhhh, that's tough, but I think it's gotta be season 5 with Sally Phillips, Aisling Bea, and Nish Kumar. The sheer mount of chaos they wrought was outstanding.
My other choice would be season 7 with Phil Wang. The jumpsuit, oh the jumpsuit *-*

Dex said...

Maggot, the double chocolate KitKat was so disappointing! Like you say, too much chocolate and not enough wafer :) Plus, the extra chocolate was dark chocolate (which I don't always mind but not in a KitKat!).

I'm so glad your voice is almost back to normal, Lilliputty :) I'm sure your family are very happy to be able to hear your insults again - I don't even mean that sarcastically :) I don't know why the world throws up things like hay fever and fly infestations to ruin our summer though. In the last few years, we have started getting this particular kind of fly in summer that is just the worst. Some places have even had to close because it has been so bad! Tuesday was particularly awful! I went out for lunch and I felt so sorry for the people working in the cafe. Literally hundreds of flies swarming everywhere!

Kerry really does love the Phil Wang series :)

Louise Boyd said...

I'm finding it increasingly aggravating that the Cake Fridge STILL hasn't updated its menu but there's no "Closed for the summer" or something to that effect posted <_<
Y'gotta let the sugar fiends know what's going on! We can't live like this!
Please tell me the lunch you went out for had some form of dessert involved in it? An über sweetened beverage?! Something to fill this CF voiddddd!

Ugh, flies. I don't thinking we've ever reached swarm level, here, but it's gotten pretty bad. So bad we have to get those sticky fly traps that if you get any on your fingers you may as well get the kitchen scissors out and perform a finger-ectomy because that stuff sure ain't coming off *-*
The traps are so depressing, though... just watching them flail and suffer... I hate it 0_0
...
Killed my second mozzie, though! Squished it into my pillow :(

Bummer about the KitKats, but yeah, I had a feeling. Sometimes you just shouldn't fuck with perfection, unless you're gonna supersize it because Chunky KitKats are immense, maybe even better than the OG!
I miss the foil wrappers, though. It's no fun not getting to split them open with my thumbnail anymore -_-

It's so hot, here, and we haven't even reached the 28C they're predicting. If you don't hear from me in the next few days, it's because I have perished and become the Human Puddle.
...
X-Men name.

Dex said...

The KitKat thumb opening was very satisfying :)

Maybe she's away finding new recipes for the cake fridge :) We did go out this afternoon to get some ice cream at least. Caramel shortcake for me. Why do chunks of chocolate and caramel and biscuit taste so much better when surrounded by ice cream? :) Have you had any ice cream/lollies in the heat?

I'm afraid my method of killing flies is very violent. Whipping them with an old towel! I really do try not to kill most things but these particular flies are so bad because they don't make for the windows like bluebottles, they go for food and people, and seem almost indestructible! I'm sure the mosquitoes are just as annoying! Was the pillow squishing deliberate?!

We never get up to 28c here! I think in that heat, the X-Men would have 2 x Human Puddles :)

Louise Boyd said...

Are there any other biscuits/sweets you have/had a specific method for opening?
Like Tunnock's Teacakes? I had to open the foil perfectly so I could smooth it all out into a perfect square. Very satisfying. Deeply nourishing to my old brain ^-^

Ugh, your ice cream biscuit caramel chocolate thingy sounds amazing! And all I've had lately is a disappointing Magnum -_-
I really don't get them. The ice cream isn't vanilla-y enough and the chocolate overpowers any flavour there is! Give me a Feast over that nonsense, any day.
I did see an advert for Häagen-Dazs Cookies and Cream (the best flavour) with more cookie in it. ... I need to investigate this.

Your method for killing bugs is exactly like my murderous mother's. It's fucking terrifying *-* As soon as she picks up the towel, you duck. Duck as low as you can!
Her hit rate's pretty impressive, though =/

Dex said...

Oh, I'm a complete animal when it comes to opening sugar these days. Just let me at the contents as soon as possible :) I wish I could say that I was one of the neat foil folders. I've always felt that those are some of the best kinds of people :)

I agree! I don't get why Magnums are held in such high esteem. I haven't had a Feast in so long but I'm not imagining this, am I? They really did have a large, solid piece of chocolate on the inside? I hope you get to investigate the more cookie ice cream very soon :)

I think our mothers are quite similar in that way :)

Dex said...

Kerry bought me some B&J Cookie Dough ice cream yesterday to help me get through this warm weather :)

Dex said...

I don't think I could live in a hot climate, Lilliputty. It was about 20c here today and that felt warm enough :)

Dex said...

Freya should be arriving on Friday!

Louise Boyd said...

Roll out the red carpet, the tiny queen is on her way! :D
Have you got anything planned for her or is she pretty chill?
Maybe this will be the time you finally introduced her to the wonder of Studio Ghibli *-* I'd give anything to see her reaction of Totoro and Ponyo :D

You didn't forget, Feasts do indeed have a solid piece of chocolate on the inside. I always thought of it was as a tongue for some reason =/
Stupidly awesome, though but so hard not to bite down on. People who bite into ice cream are menaces to society 0_0
My dad brought home cloudy apple ice lollies during the heat wave (so hot, I whined the whole time, and now I'm bitter it's colder and raining ^-^) and they were... wow. Tart and sweet and my lips were entirely numb by the time I was finished! Which is something I really enjoy about ice lollies =/
Em told me there are cola Calippos in existence now, as well, and I'm not gonna be happy until I get one.

Has it cooled down in Lerwick yet or are you still melting and attacking flies like an absolute savage?

Dex said...

I'm so sorry, Lilliputty. I kept meaning to write you a message yesterday but I think this heat has fried my brain :S

Dex said...

It is confirmed that Freya is on the boat :D I really hope I will get to introduce her to Totoro and Ponyo if I can get her to sit still long enough :) And I will certainly be sure to keep you up to date on all her movements, unless I'm completely tired from all the fighting :)

I've very glad I remembered the chocolate tongues in Feasts correctly :) But cloudy apply ice lollies really do sound like the perfect antidote to this heat wave! Tart and sweet is definitely one of my favourite combinations :) I do love how you always have particular ways of doing things, even eating ice lollies :) I really hope you get to try a cola Calippo very soon!

It's still very warm in Lerwick but apart from that one terrible day with the fly infestation, they really haven't been too bad.

Dex said...

Freya has arrived :) I was at work all day but I get to spend the evening with her. Although I think my mother has tired her out :)

Dex said...

According to Freya, fighting with me is a tradition :) She also threatened that this will be my life for the next 2 weeks!

Dex said...

Freya's latest interest is ghosts. She wrote down answers to questions on pieces of paper (yes, no, maybe and don't know) and made us ask the ghost questions to see which random answer it would give.

Louise Boyd said...

I'm so intrigued to know what these ghost questions were *-*
Was one of them "should uncle David get beaten up tonight?"
And how did the ghost answer? Was it through Freya pointing at the answers or does the little medium have her very own planchette?
How do you not pass out from how freaking cute she is? It's actually a mystery to me!

Ps. The mosquitoes have mutated, Dex, and they're thirsty for my blood.
I'm so bitten up >_<

Dex said...

She cut up a sheet of paper and wrote the answers on individual bits. Then she shuffled the bits of paper and laid them face down. After we asked a question, she would choose a piece of paper and turn it over so we could see the ghost's answer :) Unfortunately, the ghost thinks that she should still beat me up :)

I really hope the blood thirsty mutant mosquitoes leave you alone for a little while so you can enjoy reading your books in the garden!

Dex said...

This probably sounds like a crazy thing to say for a person living in Shetland but I would quite like a day a very heavy rain soon!

Louise Boyd said...

Here, have some of ours *chuck*.
How did you ever survive those holidays to the Philippines, Dexterous?

How are are the bones, m'dear? Has Freya beaten you to a full pulp yet? Or was still at the mildly pulpy stage?
I bet her little fists are hella strong; it's like when Charlie smacks you and you're like "Wtf! You're tiny! Why did that feel like getting hit by a plough?!" Freya's totally the same, right? Tiny fists of regal fury *-*

Weird question, but what Freya's noise levels like? Like, is she pretty quiet or when she's hyped up does the screaming start?
Asking for science, not because the neighbour kids are being so noisy it's like living next to a playground, especially when they tip their faces to the sky and scream like banshees for no apparent reason other than they're all clearly possessed 0_0
I might be losing my mind.

Cola Calippos ➡ disgusting.
I'm so disappointed! I thought they be like the cola ice poles I used to to eat like a feral woodland child in my youth but they tasted like Curiosity Cola and that's the worst >_<
Ugh.
Now I'm frightened all my ice lollies faves are going to be ruined! If they've fucked with Rowntrees Fruit Pastille Lolly I'm gonna go apeshit, I swear...
At least I have Dex conformation that Fabs remain as stellar as always. At least I have that.

Ps. I've been watching a ton of anime lately (Crunchyroll subscription, fuck yeah!), have you ever seen Chainsaw Man?
I'm obsessed *-* Crazed, even. It's so gooooood.

Dex said...

I know this is ridiculous but I get genuine anxiety when it hasn't rained for a couple of weeks :)

She definitely has tiny fists of fury :) And out of control legs! I was looking after her this evening as my parents were out so I did get quite the beating :) But she also spent a lot of it talking to her dad, and then her mum (a 7 year old with her own phone still seems crazy to me!) so I did get a bit of a break. And after she grew tired of beating me, we just sat quietly and watched a nature documentary. She did enjoy the scenes with the lava :)

I'm so sorry, Lilliputty, that you're still having to put up with noise neighbour kids (shaking my fist in the air while saying that). Freya isn't very loud at all in terms of volume, but she does like to talk. She basically has a story for every situation :)

That is very disappointing about the cola Calippos! I wonder if the original orange Calippos are still any good... Fortunately, I don't think I've ever tried Curiosity Cola! I really hope that the Fruit Pastille Lollies live up to your memory :) The thought of you going apeshit is slightly terrifying :)

I'm sorry that I am so out of touch with anime these days. I really do love that you are now so into it though :) The synopsis of Chainsaw Man makes it sound ridiculously entertaining :) I will have to ask my brother about it. He is still very much into his manga and anime :)

Dex said...

Freya passed her deep end test in the swimming pool today so now she can go full shark :)

Louise Boyd said...

Hey! That's so cool! I think she should be something way more benevolent that a shark, though. Or maybe just a Whale Shark! Those guys are basically the marshmallows of the sea, and that feels very Freya appropriate ^-^
I used to love swimming, but only under the water, right down at the bottom. My dad taught me and he said that once I went under there was no way to get me to swim like a regular person. Went full mermaid :D

I think you should go to the Cake Fridge to get the newest shark in the sea a treat! I'm not sure what Freya's into (other than doughnuts, obviously), but there's Tunnock's Teacake Caramel Slice and Caramel Cornflake Brownies and Banana Biscoff Blondies. Gotta be something there she could devour :D

Definitely ask your brother about Chainsaw Man, it's bonkers and I cannot stop thinking about it.
I actually wish I had access to your brother's anime knowledge because it's such an intimidating genre; there's so bloody much of it *-* I've had to start going on reddit threads to see what's the most beloved so I don't waste any time on Crunchyroll. I had my first disappointment with Hellsing :( I've wanted to watch it for decades and the first episode suckkkkked. Way too over the top and misogyny was out of control =/

Dex said...

Freya does like having marshmallows on her hot chocolate every night. It's her routine that my mother makes her a hot chocolate and then reads her some stories before bedtime :)

I do love the thought of you going full mermaid in the pool. I can definitely picture it :) I was never very good at swimming along the bottom. More of a surface dweller :) I did love going on the rapid river and pretending that I couldn't get out :) I reckon if we could have a whole swimming pool (including all the fun stuff like rapids and flumes) to ourselves, I would enjoy that day very much :)

I forgot to tell you that I did get a couple of Dairy Milk cookies sandwiches from the cake fridge last week :) I really would have gone this morning to get something for Freya but I had quite a stressful morning with the energy people again about changing to this bloody smart meter! You can always tell when I am really very angry as my arm starts to shake uncontrollably :S

I'm sorry you were disappointed by Hellsing. I've heard of it but never seen it so will make sure to avoid! It seems like anime would be perfect for a vampire story but I'm not aware of any really good ones (I've seen a couple of relatively famous ones but have always been a bit disappointed). Please let me know if you find one you like :)

Dex said...

I shouldn't have complained about the warmth a few days ago! The temperature has now dropped and I wish it was warmer :S

Dex said...

I'm definitely starting to feel a little bit stressed about getting my room sorted for new bed and visitors in September... I should probably make a start soon!

Dex said...

I'm sure you would agree that it's okay to steal small bags of chocolate chip cookies meant for Freya's lunch box :)

Dex said...

Just a few days more of Freya. They should be going to Sandness on Friday and her mother is arriving on the boat on Sunday morning. It is my mum's birthday this weekend so I'm picking up my cousin from the boat and then driving her to Sandness for a birthday lunch. And then they are leaving on the boat on Sunday evening.

Dex said...

Babysitting Freya this evening while my parents are out!

Louise Boyd said...

I'm expecting nature shows, pillow forts, copious amounts of sugar, and contacting ghosts for all the gossip.
...
That's how babysitting the Queen of Faerie goes, right?
How can she be leaving so soon :( She only just got here!
Can't believe you stole her cookies, btw. For shame! She needs those chocolate chips!

Speaking of birthdays... under a month to go!
Fuck *-*

Dex said...

She has taken a break from the ghost videos as she ended up not being able to sleep and having to stay with my mum and dad :)

Don't worry, she has been getting plenty of sugar :) She really likes those brioche buns with the chocolate chips from Tesco. Have you tried those?

I may be starting to get a little bit stressed about our birthday :)

Dex said...

Freya has gone to Sandness now so I won't see her until Sunday.

Louise Boyd said...

:(
But why can't you go on Saturdayyyy? What's more important that Freya time?!
Happy early birthday to your mum, by the way :) I'm guessing birthdays for the Eva's are pretty lowkey? No riotous parties or shindigs?

Do you mean these brioche buns?

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/316639176?srsltid=AfmBOoo5m8cvye8ftVqp2mSyQgXb0-_Uk5JVlIMRkxMWIOgxmbrhGVsr

Because if so, then Freya and I share a great sugary love. I could devour a bag of these in one sitting and go and be contemplating another one ^-^
Your tiny cousin has exemplary taste.

Okay, I'm gonna suggest something so we can both be left off the hook a bit for birthday present buying because my god it's getting super difficult!
We could just... send each other sugar? And by sugar it could be as simple as a dessert cereal, or a weird chocolate bar, or I dunno, popcorn that tastes like unicorns!
Would that make it less stressy?
Y'know this is our fault, though, right? We went too hard in those first few years of friendship and used up all our ideas! >_<

I forgot the Cake Fridge *forehead slap* It's cursed!

Dex said...

I really would have gone but I have to stay here and pick up her mother from the boat tomorrow morning. It is a surprisingly long drive to Sandness! Well, for people who are only used to driving around Lerwick anyway :) You are definitely right about our lowkey birthdays :) Although we are going to Walls (which is a place between Lerwick and Sandness) to have a birthday lunch and apparently someone has made her a cake :)

Don't worry about the cake fridge. Freya would have been in Sandness so I wouldn't have been able to share with her :) And those are the brioche buns that she loves! Hopefully the two of you can share a bag of them one day :)

If you sent me dessert cereal for our birthday, I would be extremely happy :D I think you have sent me more amazing presents over the last few years than I could have ever hoped to have received from anyone :)

Ps. Monthly! :D

Dex said...

Freya is now on the boat back to Aberdeen :(

Dex said...

I really hope that Blair is missing most of the storm.

Also, my cousin left me some cronuts. They had Nutella inside them :)

Dex said...

I forgot to say that someone made my mother a birthday cake. It was basically just sponge and icing but it was very nice. And we still have some left :)

Dex said...

More visitor news. My dad's brother is now thinking about coming up at the end of August...

Louise Boyd said...

...
Are you being punished for something?! *-*
Did you offend the universe again, Dexterous? You know you can't monkey with the cosmos and not suffer the consequences!
My uncle's coming up in a couple of weeks for mine and my gran's birthday but he'll be staying with her, at least!
Yeesh. You're never sleeping in your bed again, are you?
Question, though, how come it's always your room? Why not your brother's?

Have you ever had focaccia? It's one of my favourite breads and Sarah's been making it the last few weeks. It's really good. But she did something obscene at the weekend. Totally filthy.
...
Jam Doughnut Focaccia.
*-*
I swear to you, it really did taste like a doughnut. I'm so mad I can't send you any, it'd change your life!

Ps. I'm so glad Freya left before all the crazy wind started =/ It was probably bonkers here, one of our apple trees kinda fell over 0_0

Dex said...

There is a chance that I might not be thrown out of my bedroom if my parents decide to buy a fold out bed for the music room... And my brother's room is practically uninhabitable for normal humans :) He is quite the hoarder!

I will definitely look more kindly on my uncle visiting than these guests coming up in September who are strangers to me :) He's about 6 years younger than my dad but they are both getting on quite a bit so I'm not sure how much longer either of them will be able to travel to see one another!

I feel like I have definitely had focaccia bread and very much enjoyed it! Possibly dipped it in olive oil? Is that a normal thing? But focaccia jam doughnuts! My brain can barely comprehend that! Sarah is clearly some kind of genius :D

Do you actually get apples from your apple tree?! Also, do they get made into apple pie? :)

Dex said...

I promise I won't complain about the weather being too warm again (okay, I probably will)!

Dex said...

I forgot to tell you what Freya described me as when she was here. She said that I was like her stressball which is why she likes fighting with me :)

Dex said...

According to the Met Office at least, you will be getting some very warm weather next week! I hope you get to enjoy it in the garden :)

Dex said...

Did I ever tell you that Shetland has all these country shows during the summer? Basically, events in fields with vegetable and animal competitions, games for children, food for everyone! I'm not even sure how many there are. At least half a dozen and maybe even twice that! Although quite a few of them end up getting cancelled due to the weather!

Dex said...

I think I will do a re-watch of Cowboy Bebop...

Dex said...

I found Milky Way Crispy Rolls in Tesco!

Louise Boyd said...

Score!
Crispy sweet snacky things are so good. Like, elite snacking fodder. I'd take crunchy over gooey or gummy, any day.
Saying that, though, if they ever brought back the Milky Bar Choos I'd be all over that shit. Well, at least I think I would. I had a White Chocolate Magnum last week and it was genuinely one of the more disgusting things I've ever eaten.
White chocolate is so weird =/

Question: do you actually attend these summer country shows? For the food, at least?
Why is Lerwick so goddamn fancy?! Blair does nothing!

It's very melty here. The air is soup. I'm pretty sure I saw Charlie wilt at some point earlier today. Just sorta sighed and deflated *-*
Apparently cats like this kind of weather, but I don't know if that means tuxedo cats with extremely dense fur =/
He's still glowering and withholding affection, so I'm 95% sure he's not suffering but ooft, I wouldn't blame him if he asked to sit in the fridge for twenty minutes *-*

Dex said...

White chocolate Magnums were considered a special treat when I was growing up. We were so dumb back then :) I don't know if I ever had Milky Bar Choos though.

I'm sorry to say that I never go to the shows. The thought of parking and people tends to override my hunger :) I really wish someone would go and bring me back homebakes though. One of my favourite memories is the jumble sales they used to have at my old primary school. They really went all out. So many toys, books and homebakes :)

I'm sure Charlie will be looking for cat pats very soon :)

Dex said...

I really hope you haven't had to put up with the noisy neighbour children these last few weeks.

Louise Boyd said...

I can't even remember what they used to call jumble sales when I was kid but I know it wasn't jumble sales.
That's going to drive me crazy.
Coffee Mornings, maybe? All I really remember at them was other people's junk seeming like treasure and how much money I could beg from my mum to stuff myself with cake.
I had to participate in a few in primary school, doing what, I can't remember (behold, my steel trap memory palace!), but there was one where the whole class was forced to bake something for it (unpaid child labour, ffs!), and I sorta... didn't? You could call it forgetting but I straight up ignored the task and then had a full on panic the day of, so rabidly chopped up a chocolate marble cake we had in the cupboard at home into squares and told everyone I made it ^-^
I don't even feel bad about it to this day!
I didn't slightly regret other people getting my marble cake, though <_<

The noisy neighbour kids has been way better the past while, which kind of weirds me out because they go back to school next week.
...
Why aren't they outside gulping down their lasts rays of summer sunshine before being locked away in educational prison where everything sucks and you can't chug six cans of coke before lunchtime just because you can?
I don't understand the small people. They're like little aliens with superior diaphragms and no sense!

There are five moths in my room. They won't leave.
I didn't ask for roommates, especially ones that dive-bomb 0_0

Dex said...

Actually, I think we called them coffee mornings too! I wouldn't have felt bad about the marble cake either. Although definite resentment at other people eating it :)

Maybe the children have tired themselves out by the end of the holidays. I seem to remember that we were sometimes still on holiday on our birthday so the summer holidays must end earlier these days? I'm not sure if I could have chugged six cans of coke before lunchtime, even in my younger days. 6 sherbet fountains though, no problem :)

Moths are definitely my enemies!

Dex said...

I hope you have managed to get rid of the moths! 5 is definitely excessive!

Dex said...

Kerry was telling me that a couple of wasps got into her living room. That really is my nightmare! I am absolutely terrified of bees and wasps getting into the house!

Dex said...

I hope things are not too stressful around the Boyd household at the moment, Maggot.

I went to Tesco after work and bought Milky Way crispy rolls and Twix crispy rolls to contrast and compare. So really I'm doing it for science :)

Dex said...

Finally got our smart meter installed for the electricity!

Dex said...

I hope you don't mind but I did send you something very small for our birthday. It should have arrived today...

Louise Boyd said...

Do I mind? Do I mind?!
Dexterous Fungus Epistolean, I thought you knew me better by now *-*
...
Ps. Ditto :) Few things should be there by the 26th because I always forget it takes longer to get to you than it does to me!

Guess who was officially signed off from speech therapy on Tuesday? This bitch :D

Question: which is worse, moths or bees/wasps?
I decided to let the moths hang out because they don't bother me unless they're huge, but I swear they're on caffeine or whatever gets insects hyper because they're constantly doing the zoomies around my ceiling at night. No rest. Just speed racing. It'd be entertaining if they didn't death drop sometimes when they hit the light =/

Pre-birthday cake fridge?
I think, yes!

- Filthy Brownies

No other choices, I wanna know what makes them "filthy" 0_0 )

Dex said...

That is fantastic news, Lilliputty! And just in time for our birthday! I really did keep meaning to ask. But I just knew you would ace those exercises :D I'm sure you are using your voice for all sorts of sarcastic insults :)

I'm sorry, I really do live in a silly place when it comes to getting things sent to me.

I'm very glad you made me go to the cake fridge. Not only because the filthy brownies were actually a brownie on top of an oreo on top of a chocolate chip cookie, but also she is taking a break for a few weeks!

I'm genuinely terrified of bees/wasps when they get in the house but moths are just an annoyance, especially when they get the zoomies :) I prefer the ones who just stay still on the wall. That's the kind of moth I would be :)

Louise Boyd said...

Nah, you're the kind of moth who'd discover the wool jumpers and settle yourself in for snack time ^-^
I'd say if I was a bug, I'd be a bookworm, but I'd never actually eat the literature! That'd be sacrilege!

Hmm, can't say I've come out with any outstanding insults of late, but after rewatching Yuri!!! On Ice for the fourth time since May, I have taken to greeting the siblings by calling them hags like Yurio does :)

Holy fucking shit, that really is filthy! How much water did you have to chug after that sugar overload? Or is that just a me thing? Chocolate makes me so thirsty *-*

Have any of the visitations happened yet? I've lost track of when they're occurring >_<

Dex said...

You would make an excellent bookworm :)

Quite a large parcel arrived today! You really are too good to me, Lilliputty :)

I'm sure your siblings secretly enjoy that greeting :)

Sugar definitely does make me thirsty too! And I do really enjoy having a cup of tea with my cake fridge treats :) I have been trying to drink more water lately though. I really am very bad at that!

My uncle keeps delaying his trip up. It was going to be last week, then this week, and now it is the following week so I don't know if he'll ever make it up here! The other guests are some time in the middle of September but it does sound like I won't be kicked out of my bedroom now :)

Dex said...

I may have ordered you a couple more small things. I really hope that's okay (and that they arrive on time!).

Dex said...

I meant to say that I've also taken this week off work. I don't really have any plans except lunch on Wednesday with some friends from work. It's actually a lunch for someone moving jobs (just from one end of the office to the other) but I will pretend it is a birthday lunch too :)

Louise Boyd said...

I am now in possession of two packages! :D
I don't thinking getting gifts will ever get old; I love being spoiled ^-^

Do you purposefully not tell people it's your birthday at work? Because, totally get that, but I still feel like somebody should be buying you a celebratory cupcake or something!
Are you doing anything with Kerry or the family?

Yay! You don't have to give up your room!
...
But do you still get the new bed... ? <_<
I'd totally be angling for that anyway.

Dex said...

Happy birthday, Maggot :D I hope that your family completely spoil you today as you totally deserve it! And happy birthday to your gran too! Hopefully she enjoys all the attention :)

Oh, the people at work love reminding me how old I am getting :) And don't worry, Kerry says she has bought me a cake :)

Hmm, I won't hold my breath for the new bed. But I will very much enjoy opening the parcel you sent me in the morning. Thank you, Lilliputty :D

Louise Boyd said...

Happy Birthday, Fungus! :D
You'll be happy to know that I yipped (yes, yipped) with delight at the sight of sugar and manga, two of my favourite things. You're the actual fucking best ^-^

Just got back from my gran's and I'm totally knackered, but full of chocolate meringue cake, so that's pretty awesome. How's the day been so far for you? Had a lunch entirely composed of carbs and sugar? The lunch of gods!

In typical fashion it's raining on our birthday. Is it because Mother Nature knows we're gremlins?

Did you get any birthday texts of indecipherable emojis from Freya?

Dex said...

I really know very little about Manga but for some reason I always feel like sending you them :)

I have very much been enjoying my chocolatey breakfasts these last 2 days! Thank you, Maggot. You really do know me so well :D

No texts from Freya but I did get a surprise birthday present of a mug she made for me at one of the craft shops when she was up here last month :) It has what I think is a bear and a cake (or it could be a man in a top hat!) :)

Chocolate meringue cake totally sounds like my kind of thing :) I was very sensible with my lunch but I did eat store bought chocolate cake and a box of Kinder goodies that Kerry gave me :)

I hope you manage to get plenty of rest today and that the sun comes out soon for you :)

Dex said...

I got an extra box of cereal today! Oreo with marshmallow! You really do find the best things, Lilliputty :D

Dex said...

I meant to say that Kerry and I are going away this weekend (just another rented house in Shetland) so I might not be able to message on Saturday. Back on Sunday!

Dex said...

Back home now!

Louise Boyd said...

Was a nice time had? Maybe desserts consumed? Any good views of the tiny isle?

Can't believe you were blessed with a handcrafted Freya mug. That's like being knighted by King Arthur or something! *-*
You've gotta drink something epic from it, like the chocolatiest hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream and a flake! You could even dip some Krave in it for some crunch.

The sun came out a little bit today but mostly it's been raining non-stop. Kind of a bummer but they keep threatening us with water bans and I really like being clean and drinking my daily lake of H2O, so I'll take the rain as long as it goes away eventually <_<
It's so autumn-y here, already. I'm not ready for summer to be over *cries in vitamin d deprivation*

Ps. Have you tried he KitKat cereal yet? I'm itchy to know if it's any good so I can buy a box :D

Louise Boyd said...

*20 hours later...*

SHE GAVE YOU THE HOLY GRAIL! I REPEAT: SHE GAVE YOU THE GODDAMN HOLY FUCKING GRAIL! *-*
...
You're so lucky >_<

Dex said...

It actually had a very nice view overlooking a kind of bay. The only problem was the flies. There were so many we couldn't open any windows! But they did have what seemed to be fancy Haribo type sweets in little glass jars. Obviously, I ate them all :) Also, the lady who owned it made us a Shetland cake called a Huffsie which isn't really kind of thing (it's a sort of fruit loaf) but was actually quite nice (I took the rest of it home as I thought it was the polite thing to do!).

I have tried the KitKat cereal and would definitely recommend! Thank you, Lilliputty :) The one thing I would say (just in case it disappoints you) is that it doesn't turn the milk very chocolatey but the actually cereal more than makes up for that :)

I keep feeling like the birthday cup is too special to drink out of but if it is going to give me eternal life... :)

I did get very anxious in July when it seemed to be sunny non-stop for about a month with no rain!

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, you gotta drink down that eternal life, bestie; gulp it down like the perfect ratio-ed Nesquik and enjoy the immortality.
...
And maybe overnight your dearest goblin friend a vial so she can read until the end of time? ^-^

Gonna admit something probably quite blasphemous, but... I actually don't care very much about the milk in cereal becoming a flavour! In fact, it's the only time I really like the taste of milk without anything added (it's my dream to eat Cereal Milk Ice Cream at some point in my wretched life)! I just want the crunch, and if I've timed it perfectly the last mouthful will finish everything off together, no bowl drinking or additional cereal needed.
I'm actually quite proficient at this; mad cereal skills.
I think you should mix all the flavours together and see what happens :)

I googled a Huffsie Cake, and I would eat the crap out of that. I love fruit cake >_< But it has to have the perfect ratio: too much fruit and I may as well be eating a handful of raisins (not terrible but not what I want), too little fruit and it's an offence to the legacy of fruit cake.
Can you toast it? Or fry it?!

Forgot to say that I've actually meaning to start Demon Slayerfor ages, so I can watch the anime and be annoyed by all the things they've missed out because I'm the fucking worst about adaptations.
Most excellent choice, Dexterous ^-^

Dex said...

I'm very sorry for radio silence yesterday Lilliputty but I was actually in day surgery at the hospital! Nothing serious but I was waiting there for most of the morning. And then the operation took about 20 minutes and I was back home about half an hour later :) But between self medicating with ibuprofen and ice packs the rest of the day, I probably wasn't in the best state for doing much :) I should be back at work tomorrow though.

Toasted or fried Huffsie... I've never heard of it but I wouldn't be surprised if you were the first person to come up with that amazing idea - you always know how to improve food! :D As you know, I'm not the biggest fan of dried fruit so I'm definitely not the best person to judge the rations :)

I would definitely only be drinking out of the eternal cup if I knew my Maggot was going to be there with me in our giant library :)

The mixing of all the chocolate cereals did cross my mind... :) And I think our approach to cereal is quite the same. I don't care about the chocolate milk either, just the chocolate crunch of the cereal and the right amount of milk :)

Louise Boyd said...

:O
You gotta tell me when you're having surgery, you absolute monster! Even tiny surgeries! And five days after your birthday?!
You deserve a cookie. A fucking massive one. The size of a basketball. With a caramel latte on the side for dunking! Which I don't actually believe in, but I'm also a monster, so dunk away, my good sir. Dunk. Away.
...
How are you feeling, though? People better be being nice to you, or there's gonna be trouble <_<
You've totally gotta drink from the Freya Grail, now. You could even eat cereal from it, I'm sure it'll have the same effect.
Why is eating things from a mug so good? Ice cream from a bowl? Nahhhh, I'll take a shallow mug, thanks - bonus, it keeps your hands from getting cold ^-^

Dex said...

I will be doing ice cream in a mug from now on :) Or ice cream in the Freya Grail :)

I actually don't usually dunk either :) The only thing I would ever do it with is Rich Tea biscuits in a cup of tea.

I'm sorry, I really should have told you about the surgery, but I felt stupidly embarrassed by it even though I know you would never make me feel that way :)

Louise Boyd said...

Damn right I wouldn't! But you never actually have to tell me the details, just a simple "hey, I'm going under anaesthesia and thought you should know" level of info. Just so I know to be prepared for the surgeons accidentally tapping into your mutant powers or something.
That's the kind of thing a bff should be prepared for.

Not even Rich Tea for dunking, imo. Can't do it. Maybe it's because I have such strong sweet/salty taste receptors that anything sweet consumed with tea instantly makes it lose all flavour and flavourless tea is a fresh kind of hell.
Maybe if your tastebuds are normal you can taste all the things!
...
I might dunk a biscotti, though, just so I didn't crack all my teeth *-*

Dex said...

I'm sorry, Lilliputty. I promise that I will say something next time (even though I'm hoping there won't be a next time!). It was just local anaesthetic though. The thought of being completely put under does scare me a little bit!

I always find my cups of tea very variable even though I think make them the same way every time. I wish I knew how to get it just right all the time :)

Dex said...

My uncle has been up visiting since Wednesday. They have taken him to Sandness for the weekend so I'm very much looking forward to a quiet house :)

Dex said...

I'm sorry, I was so pre-occupied with the operation last week that I completely forgot about August monthly! Weekend reading :D

Dex said...

I love deciding which chocolate cereal to have for breakfast :D

Louise Boyd said...

I hope you enjoyed the tiny Monthlies. August was an executive dysfunction nightmare ^-^

How's the quiet house treating you? Is it all sitting around in your dressing gown, crunching on cereal whilst watching murder mysteries?
Damn, that actually sounds really fun.
And how're you feeling?! Still sore or all healed up and ready to climb the Cake Fridge hill?

Dex said...

I always enjoy the monthlies :D

I really only got one full day of quiet on the Saturday but cereal and tv were definitely involved :) Although it was actually a bit too warm for dressing gown!

Thank you, Lilliputty. I think I am doing okay and I'm optimistic that I will be mostly back to normal by the weekend. I might give hill climbing for cake a miss this week just to be on the safe side :)

Dex said...

I have very good news, Lilliputty. Those guests who are arriving next week are no longer staying in our house :) They will be staying in a B&B run by friends of my parents.

Louise Boyd said...

Everything's coming up Dexterous!
Will you still be expected to socialise? Or are you exempt from the near strangers invading your house-sanctuary?

You would absolutely hate my house right now; we're being invaded by wasps. I've had seven in my room in the last two days. Seven! I even woke up with one lounging on my window this morning - it must've wriggled through the gap I'm leaving at some point. I don't know what's wrong with them, but they are absolutely determined to be inside and I'm not cool with it.
They are being weirdly polite about being escorted outside, though. No stressing out and banging their heads against the glass like the small-brained numpties they usually are, just leaving without making a fuss.
So weird. But appreciated.
Still wish they'd stay outside, though!

Dex said...

I don't think I will be expected to socialise... I was planning to just hide in my bedroom the whole time :) And they will be going to Sandness too so I will hopefully get a few quiet days :) Much better news though (except for my poor, bruised body)! Freya might be coming up again in October :D

7 wasps! You're right, I would hate that, no matter how polite they are! Although I'm sure I would cope if you were there :) I definitely would need a Lilliputty to gently escort them outside :)

Dex said...

We are seeing a lot of sun up here for September!

Dex said...

I definitely feel like I could sleep the whole weekend!

Dex said...

I have a big bag of crispy M&Ms and some Kinder Buenos for my weekend sugar :)

Louise Boyd said...

And I'm guessing those M&Ms and Buenos are lonnnnng gone by now :) Deep down in the dexterous belly.
It's a pretty good haul, I must say, but Sarah made raspberry tiramisu and brownies this weekend, so I think I might win :D

Yay, Freya! Will she be up for Halloween?

Make it stop raining, Dexterous. And stop being Autumn. It's like a switch got turned on here and summer's instantly gone. It's so cold >_<

Dex said...

Oh, you definitely win :D

Unfortunately, I'm assuming that Freya will be up during the October holidays so I won't get to see her dress up as a dragon :)

According to met office, you should be getting some sun tomorrow :)

Louise Boyd said...

Then I totally think you should throw her a mini Halloween Bash, which will essentially be dressing her as the aforementioned dragon - because that needs to happen - and plying her with candy as you introduce her to the Halloween greats: Hocus Pocus, Casper, Gremlins, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, The Addams Family.
I'm a grown ass woman and that sounds awesome!

How's the post-surgery mending, Fungus? All patched up or still creaking a little?
Y'know, the best thing for ailments is tea and murder mysteries. Or so I've heard tell :)

There better be sunshine tomorrow or I'm gonna be pissed. The last time the weather people promised vitamin D, it didn't arrive!
...
Welcome to "Lilliputty's gonna be a moody little bitch for the next eight to nine months until summer returns" era of your life ^-^

Dex said...

I reckon that you, Freya and I would have the best Halloween film. So many sweets and films (you do pick the best ones). And Freya chasing us while dressed as a dragon, of course :)

I think I am almost back to normal, Lilliputty. Thank you :) Well, as normal as I ever was :) Tea and murder mysteries... You definitely know that things that help me to recover :)

You definitely deserve a full week of sun before autumn fully kicks in!

Dex said...

The visitors have arrived so I am currently hiding in my bedroom!

Dex said...

I think our autumn has definitely arrived now!

Louise Boyd said...

Autumn sucks :)
The only thing I like about it is the leaves changing colour and taking book photos in soggy patches of them. And chai lattes - which I realise you can get any time of year, but autumn's the best season for them. But other than that? Sucks! And then it's winter and it sucks even more because we don't even get snow anymore! And it lasts a whole year (or it feels that way) and then it's spring! Which is alright, I guess, but it's still cold and probably raining! ... Sucks! >_<
...
Told you I'd be grumpy ^-^

How goes it with the visitors? Are they being respectful of your anti-social bubble or have you been invaded by the small talk monsters?
Small talk is the very worst thing that ever happened to human communication, and I cannot cope with it. It's so cringey. Don't ask me what I did at the weekend! There's a 100% chance I was staring at the dust bunny in the corner of my bedroom that I absolutely mean to get rid of but actually won't, and that's it! I did nothing of note! And being asked makes me want to both pull all my eyelashes out one hair a time and invert myself inside my body so I'm skeleton side out *-*
...
This is why I haven't been to a hairdresser in almost two decades :)
That, and the mirrors. Why are they full length?! Why do they need to see my knees?! Why do I need to see my knees?! WTF?! >_<

Dex said...

I will be fair and say that the visitors haven't really been too much of a bother to me :) I don't see them in the mornings as they are staying at the B&B and my mum gives them a lift back in the evenings at about 8pm. So I only have to cope for about 2 hours after work and most of that is spent hiding in my bedroom :) And my parents are taking them to Sandness for the weekend so I should hopefully get a couple of days to myself :)

I love that you introduced me to chai lattes. And I always love when we are grumpy about the same things :) I'm glad that I hardly ever have to go to the hairdressers as one of my mum's friends is a hairdresser and she usually comes to the house. And then my mum can take care of the small talk :)

Dex said...

I hope that Charlie isn't being too grumpy because of the cold weather.

Dex said...

Fully intending to spend the whole of my Saturday on a chair in the living room with tv, laptop, kindle and chocolate cereal :)

Dex said...

I have actually gone to the effort of making coronation chicken for my lunch tomorrow. And some Oreo truffles :)

Louise Boyd said...

And how exactly does one make Oreo truffles? Asking for science *-*

Are the visitors gone? Are you free at last from all social commitments?!
I'm honestly impressed you didn't scamper off the Kerry's at least a few times. That's what I would've done. Social etiquette can bite me, I'm gonna hang out with people I actually like!

Had my first Starbucks Chai Latte of the season. Either my tastebuds are getting old, which they can't be because I have the palate of a pre-teen, or they're putting waaaaay too much sugar in their drinks. I like it sweet but not feel-my-wisdom-teeth-quake-in-fear sweet *-* Waterstones definitely makes the superior chai, and with added benefit of being surrounded by books - even if Dundee's fantasy section is severely lacking!

Charlie has, begrudgingly, entered his Autumn season and is currently sleeping inside the Amazon box I got my deliveries in today on top of the back room's table. It's three sizes too small for him and he's so squished inside I'm shocked he's not being suffocated by his own fluff, but my boy's the poster cat for "If I fits, I sits."
It's so hard not to poke him, he makes such cute angry noises >_<

Dex said...

Oreo truffles really are the easier things ever! Oreos mixed with Philadelphia and vanilla extract, then dipped in melted chocolate :)

The visitors left today. I'm very glad to go back to my usual routine :) Kerry did offer to let me come over if things at home were too much but I know she likes having evenings to herself. And the visitors really weren't very disruptive.

I really hope you get a chance to enjoy superior chai lattes while surrounded by books :) I would love to go to a giant bookshop with you. We could meet up for chai lattes in between exploring :) Do you think you'll be able to go to a bookshop soon?

The image of Charlie making himself comfortable in a tiny box while making his angry (although secretly happy to have your attention) noises is just the best :) Also, I have big news! Freya has a cat! I will try to get more details!

Dex said...

I haven't even found out the name of the cat but Freya did send me a picture :)

Louise Boyd said...

*happy seal clapping*

I must have details of what kind of cat it is! Colour, fur texture, nose colour, pointy or rounded ears, eye colour, PAW SIZE, flamboyant of demure tail?
I'm so excited for her :D Having a cat is always a great thing, but having a cat when you're little is awesome. The minute you find out its name, you must stop everything you're doing and tell me! >_<

I'm having thoughts about these Oreo Truffles. Thoughts as in "can I do it with any flavour of Oreo?" Mint Oreo Truffles are now on my To Do list *-*

Ps. I'm gearing myself up to taking a trip to Waterstones pretty soon. It's not wise because I just bought a pile of books I really didn't need, but... fuck it! Books and chai! Books and chai! ^-^

Dex said...

A tiny, fluffy tiger with the most innocent face, blue/grey eyes, golden brown nose, and very pointy ears :)

You always know how to improve everything :) I hope you do try Mint Oreo Truffles and let me know what they are like :)

Books and chai are always a wise decision! I can't wait to hear about your Waterstones adventure :D I just wish I could go with you.

Dex said...

I definitely would like to plan a trip down south for Waterstones and HMV shopping :)

Dex said...

Someone from the office went to the cake fridge this morning so we had the crunchie tiffin and chocolate orange brownie :)

Dex said...

Kerry's washing machine started smoking the other day! Fortunately, she was at home and noticed it but she will need to take her clothes to her mother's flat to wash until she can get it replaced.

Louise Boyd said...

Oh wow, that totally beats my hairdryer crapping out on me after only for months, yesterday. Is she getting a new one soon? Washing machines are way cheaper than I thought they would be. Like... why does a phone cost so much more? Nothing in the adult world makes sense! *-*

I've totally dropped the ball on the Cake Fridge >_< For some reason I have a blank when it comes to Thursdays; it just isn't a day for me. But never fear! I'll be forcing sugar down you like a foie gras goose next week!
...
As long as you're all healed up, that is :)

Is Freya's cat still a kitten? Because blue/grey eyes are suuuuuper rare in grown up cats. I can't even picture what this cat looks like, it doesn't sound real! Of course the fairy queen would have an ethereal feline. Of course she would ^-^
Does it look anything like this one:

Have you got its name yet? It's gonna be so good, I just know it >_<

Dex said...

Freya's cat looks tiny so I'm assuming still a kitten :) The 2nd photo is definitely the closest although her cat's fur is a little darker. Same face and ears though :) But I still haven't found out the name! Freya isn't the best at responding. I think she gets distracted very easily :)

That was exactly the same reaction I had when I found out how much washing machines cost :) She is hoping that her mum will buy her a new one as an early birthday present. Obviously, she was hoping for something more fun but realises that a washing machine might be the sensible thing :)

I do love when you order me to consume sugar :D

Louise Boyd said...

Well, can't really blame her for being flaky, right now, not when there's a miniature lion to hold all her attention. She got her first familiar :D Every witch should have her feline familiar.

Aw man, it sucks when you have to choose the sensible present instead of a pile of "frivolous" ones. I bet you'll make up for that, though, with, like... a crate of wine?
I always wondered how wine lovers who buy those tapped boxes don't just drink directly from them like juice cartons. If I liked win, I totally would *-*

Dex, I discovered something terrible! Sarah made pistachio cream, chocolate chunk cookies and I hate them! 0_0 Pistachio cream is the worst, it just tastes bitter!
Over a year of obsessing over the Dubai chocolate bar and I hate it! Why must I have such basic bitch tastebuds? >_<

Dex said...

Even though Freya uses me to practice her fighting skills, I bet she is so gentle with her new kitten :)

When I am ever at a loss as to what to buy Kerry for a present, I know that she will always be happy with wine :) Although she only drinks one kind! New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I think it is far too late for me to get into wine or alcohol of any kind. The closest I will get is enjoying fancy cocktails that are half way to being desserts :) Kerry does sometimes get the boxes of NZ SB but she says that it always tastes nicer from the bottle (even when it is the same brand). I wonder if that is the same as coke tasting nicer from glass bottles...

Although I am 100% certain that I would have completely demolished all of Sarah's cookies, I definitely don't get the hype around Dubai chocolate. Give me a piece of homemade Millionaire's Shortbread over that any day of the week :)

Louise Boyd said...

For. Sure.
Sarah actually makes badass Millionaire's, so it's no great loss when it comes to pistachio. I still like them as nuts! I'll shell those bad boys any time, but the trendy food people can keep their cream.
It's like everyone trying to convince me Matcha's nice. It's not. It tastes like grass and I hate it ^-^

I bet bottle wine is like coke tasting better from glass vessels. Y'know what else tastes better from a bottle? Fanta. Smashed a bottle this weekend and I don't think I can go back to cans *-*
Canned Tizer, though? Elite. But still has no discernible flavour =/

Dex said...

Lilliputty, you're going to totally judge me (and rightly so) but I don't think I've ever had Tizer!

I'm sure I've told you this before but I like reminding myself because it's a happy memory :) In Philippines, there used to be (and hopefully still is) a fizzy orange drink called Royal. They used to sell it everywhere, along with Coca Cola and Sprite, and always in glass bottles :) Also, they had a very big earthquake there earlier today! Fortunately, I think everyone on the farm is okay, although they were quite scared by it.

I just knew that Sarah would be amazing at making Millionaire's :D

Dex said...

It is starting to get very dark here now :S

Louise Boyd said...

Ditto.
But I guess it's officially Halloween season, so the dark's unavoidable now. I miss the sun >_< And there's a storm headed my way, and I can't be arsed with the wind. I'm sick of the wind!

Okay, seeing as you can't get to the Philippines for Royal right this minute, I think you should get a bottle or Fanta and pretend it's in a glass bottle, and that the weather's nice, and you're not on a tiny island with no trees :)
Sucks about the earthquake, global warming's really making herself known =/ I'm really glad your relatives are okay, though.

Not to rub it in your face, but Sarah's making Cinnamon Rolls this weekend :D

Ps. You have to try Tizer. It's absolutely illegal that you haven't! I demand this be rectified!

Dex said...

You are totally rubbing those Cinnamon Rolls in my face! And quite rightly so :D

I think pretending that I'm drinking Fanta from a glass bottle is the way to go :) I haven't seen the sun since Monday. And I think we are getting some of the storm too. My parents are on the boat to Aberdeen on Monday night so I really hope it has passed by then! Sadly, Freya won't be coming up this month. My parents are going down there instead to look after her for 10 days. And the cat too :)

I can't even remember seeing Tizer up here! Surely they must sell it! I will try very hard to appease you this week :)

Louise Boyd said...

Haha, yes, minion, do my bidding. And while you're on the hunt for Tiger, get thee to the Cake Fridge and pick up some:

- Nanaimo Bars
- Pain au Chocolate Blondies
- Cappuccino Cake with Mascarpone Cream

Or there will be consequences ^-^

No Freya :(
I guess making her leave her new kitten would be a little too much to ask. But still :(

I think I've got a serious case of SAD, right now. I'm not full on miserable, but I'm definitely moody with all the grey skies and constant rain.
If I ever win the lottery, I'm moving somewhere with no seasons, only summer, and I'm taking you with me. We can employ someone to keep us fed and make sure we don't osmose into the couch cushions from reading/watching tv all day.

Dex said...

I love doing your bidding :) It was a very difficult decision but I went with the Pain au Chocolate Blondies because they looked amazing. They tasted pretty good too :) I'm just hoping she makes the other ones again very soon as I must find out what I have missed! :)

It's totally understandable. Everyone just seems so miserable at the moment. Do we ever get Indian summers in Scotland or is that just a myth? It definitely means a lot that you would take me with you to the endless summer of books and tv :)

Dex said...

Leftover blondies for my breakfast today :)

Dex said...

I really hope you and Charlie are coping okay with this weather!

Louise Boyd said...

Charlie was totally chill during the storm, he only freaked out once and that's when it was really windy but then he went straight back out into it to, I dunno, let the super breeze ruffle his chest fur?
He's such a weirdo.

You should my garden, it's covered in leaves and branches and all manner of detritus =/ Apparently there were trees knocked over in multiple places in town and further afield. Story Amy had a blast *-*
How did Lerwick fair? Much damage? At least it's stopped now for your parents going away! You better get video chats with Freya! The kitten must be witnessed!

Excellent Cake Fridge choice, but if they make the Nanaimo Bars again, you MUST get them. I need to know what the fuss is all about >_<

Ps. The cinnamon rolls were made and they are epic :D

Dex said...

I bet that Charlie is quite the sight when he comes in from a storm. He's definitely the best kind of weirdo :)

Yes, my parents are on the boat tonight. It is still quite windy but at least the boat sailed. It was cancelled over the weekend so they have been quite lucky. I can't wait for the video calls :D

Apart from a few misshapen bushes and a broken sign outside Tesco, I haven't really seen any storm damage. Shetland doesn't have many trees, probably because it is usually windy anyway :) I'm always worried about the trees at the back of our house but I suppose that they have survived this long :) I hope your garden is okay apart from being covered in leaves and branches!

Of course, I'm not at all jealous of your cinnamon rolls...

Dex said...

Hopefully a video call tonight! :)

Dex said...

I'm very disappointed, Lilliputty. The cat is actually living at her dad's house so I doubt I will get to see it :( I promise I will find out the name though!

Dex said...

I probably shouldn't be left to fend for myself. Pancakes, bacon and syrup for my tea tonight :S

Dex said...

Kerry has been so anxious about going to a large family event up in Whalsay this weekend that she has been off sick the last 2 days :S

Dex said...

My sibling is at work so I am very much intending to enjoy my weekend of having the house to myself :)

Louise Boyd said...

What's that like? I never get the house to myself!
To be fair, though, the few times I have been left alone, I tend to freak myself out because my imagination is an overactive dickhead ^-^
What will be on the agenda for Dexterous' Weekend of Idyllism?

Have you had a video call with Freya, yet? Can't believe you won't see the kitten >_<
If I was Freya, would be climbing the walls to get back to it. Split custody with a feline must be torture *-*

How's Kerry doing? Did she end up going to the family thing? It sucks that events like cause her so much stress, but I totally get it. I'm a total nightmare even just having the whole family round the house! Couldn't even imagine a big celebration with more than ten people *-*

Dex said...

I did have to pick up Kerry from the ferry terminal this afternoon or she would have been stuck in Whalsay until tomorrow, which is unacceptable to her :) It was her grandad's birthday and I'm assuming it was a significant one (possibly 80th) as they had booked the hall and family were flying in from south! Apparently there was a lot of drinking (very common for Whalsay), her sister fell off the stage while demanding Abba (she's okay), and her mother drunkenly burst into Kerry's bedroom at 4.30am! There are both apparently still sleeping it off :)

I used to get quite scared of having the house to myself, especially at night when I was always expecting to be attacked on my way to the bathroom in the dark :) But these days, I just enjoy the quiet while sitting on my chair in the living room :) That is what I spent most of the weekend doing, with some pizza and old sitcoms :)

My parents keep calling me when Freya isn't there! She was at a disco the other night. Although I did get a text from my mother this morning with a photo of Freya pretending to be a ghost :) Obviously getting into the spirit for Halloween :)

Dex said...

I have been saving your September monthly as I usually completely devour them as soon as they are posted but I will make a start tonight. I really am so happy that you still do them :)

Dex said...

Apparently Freya was wearing scuba diving goggles to protect her eyes while eating ramen! :D

Dex said...

I feel like I may have started to go too far with my fridge chocolate and have now started refrigerating Maltesers :)

Louise Boyd said...

Firstly: your niece is too fucking cute, I cannot stand it. How dare she.

Secondly: Maltesers in the fridge? Does that make them crunchier? Because if so, I'm totally on board!

Thirdly: Kerry's family functions sound so hectic *-* How in the hell does she survive them?

Discovered a devastating thing! I might have Oral Pollen Allergy, specific to apples!
I haven't eaten raw ones since last year because they make my stomach hurt so much, but stewed apples have been fine. Until now, that is. Sarah made crumble at the weekend and about ten minutes after eating it, my throat was so sore, like it gets with my hay fever, and I genuinely couldn't swallow properly. Quick google search and bam! OPA >_<
I could totally be wrong, but the symptoms match up, and I'm freaking devastated. I love apple desserts :( :( :(

I may be imagining it but I think the fridge Maltesers are crunchier :)

Whenever Kerry has to go up to Whalsay for family stuff, she spends the week leading up to it stressing out about plans and getting annoyed with her mother :) And they I have to pick her up from the ferry because everyone in Whalsay is too hungover to drive the next day :)

That really sucks, Lilliputty :( I really hope you are wrong as the thought of you going without apple crumble or apple pie makes me very sad! Maybe it's the specific kind of apple that your sister used that was the problem? Maybe if she uses a different kind it might be better? She could maybe experiment by making another apple dessert shortly :)

I don't actually know how people do it, getting drunk on the regular. The few times I've been blistering drunk, it's been so bad the next day that I would've literally sold my soul to not have a hangover anymore. How do people deal with that feeling regularly? *-*

Hopefully I'm wrong about the allergy, but I get the feeling I'm not -_- But it's not so bad, there's tons of other yummy things that don't make my throat feel like its closing up =/
Like Ferrero Nutella Cheesecakes, and Salted Caramel Brownie Trifles, and White Malteser Caramel Slice! Which are all in the Cake Fridge this week, and you need to go get one of them ^-^

I definitely have no intention of ever being that drunk again! I think I'm like you :) The handful of times it has happened, it has never seemed worth the suffering :) I never used to get hangover headaches, but would be throwing up for most of the next day. I'm sorry for the delightful imagery :)

I actually took the day off work as my parents are back tomorrow so I wanted to enjoy the quiet while I still could :) So I got to have the Salted Caramel Brownie Trifle all to myself :) But I do have to get up ridiculously early for a Saturday to pick up my parents from the boat.

I am just imagining if your sisters started a cake fridge :)

Parents are back now :S

And the peace comes to an end.
Do they at least return with Freya tales?

If Sarah and Em started a cake fridge it would be absolute chaos. Taste great, but chaos. They do not work well together. You put two control freaks in a room together, it's not going to end well :)
Plus, I'd have to decide everything they also can't make decisions *put upon sigh*

I always struggle the first few days after they come back. I get very used to my routine when they are away :) I think it's the 25th November that they go away again. Aberdeen then Philippines.

My mother had to take grated raw onion to the cafe as Freya needs it on her tuna toastie :)

Hopefully the decisions you would have to make would be things like 'what should they make to put in the cake fridge?' :)

There's another visitor coming to stay with us in November. I don't know why we have so many visitors all of a sudden!
