Kerry keeps texting me about the Stranger Things finale. I probably will need to get around to watching the new series before I lose all my friends!

Louise Boyd said...

Ahhhh I haven't watched it yet! Don't tell me anything! >_<
But watch it because yes! We will disown you x_x

Dex said...

Don't worry, Kerry knows better than to give away spoilers. 2 hours and 19 minutes for the final episode though!

Louise Boyd said...

Kerry's a good woman with more self-control than most people.
I had to back away slowly from Twitter last night because it's spoiler hellfire in there, and I banned myself from all social media today until I'd watched the final episode.
...
It has now been watched. The bad thing I thought was gonna happen didn't actually happen, but another bad thing happened, and a really bad thing happened, and I am now red-eyed from sobbing.
This fucking show 0_0

I can't remember if you've watched any of it?

Dex said...

No, I haven't watched it yet. Kerry did say that she thought her favourite character was going to die but didn't, and that one of the new characters (who she said was a definite top 10 character) ended up sacrificing themselves. She was also very angry about the group of guys going around attacking people.

Louise Boyd said...

Yes.
Yes to allllll of that.
Ask her how much satisfaction she got when the thing happened to the head jock douchebag.

You gotta watch it so you can understanddddddd >_<

Dex said...

Is there something with Lucas vs head jock. Because she said it was so satisfying! :)

I drove out to Sandness today. I'm currently eating custard tarts (Tesco have started selling them again!) and drinking hot chocolate. I think this may be what I need :)

Louise Boyd said...

There was that and it was indeed super satisfying but right after there was a... melty moment 0_0
It brought me much joy.
That and Nancy being the baddest ass that's ever assed.
I love her *-*

It makes me so happy hearing you well fed and getting quality Dex-time ^-^

Dex said...

No, she never mentioned the melty moment!

Thank Lilliputty. I do wish you were here to enjoy it with me. I thought I was getting a sunset tonight but it clouded over.

Louise Boyd said...

To be fair, she might've missed it. Mostly everyone did. It was a very fast melty moment.
I can't believe I haven't badgered you enough to watching ST yet.
I'm losing my touch *-*

You wouldn't want me there; I'd drink all your hot chocolate and complain of lactose-based stomach ache for hourssssss 0_0

Dex said...

I have some crunch nut clusters as well so you could have that instead.

You're not losing your touch. You've spent almost 10 years encouraging me to watch more tv shows, I should be able to motivate myself by now!

I've almost developed a fear of new shows at the moment, like my emotions won't be able to handle them. I should probably seek psychiatric help :)

Louise Boyd said...

As your bestie therapist, I'm prescribing a binge watch of Stranger Things and the entirety of that box of crunch nut clusters finished before the closing scene.
I will it to be done!

Dex said...

You know I don't take your proclamations lightly. I'm going some cereal right now :)

Life would be so much easier (happier) if you were here to make me watch tv with you.

Louise Boyd said...

I concur ^-^
The question is, though, would you be able to handle how emotional I get?
The tears? The cussing? The random acts of dancing when a good song comes on?
It's a lot of responsibility =/

Dex said...

Are the random acts of dancing really a thing?! Of course, I could cope :) Although I don't think you can call it coping if you enjoy being with the other person.

I thought I might start Stranger Things S4 tonight!

Louise Boyd said...

Yayyyyy!
I wonder if you'll get the twist before the reveal.
I didn't.
But I'm a special kind of idiot ^-^
And yes, the random acts of dancing are a real thing.
I watched Encanto last night and basically didn't stop moving for an hour and a half :D
There might have been singing, also...

Ps. There's caramel shortbread ice cream in the freezer and IT'S FUCKING AMAZING 0_0

Dex said...

That was a pretty brutal kill at the end of episode 1!

A special kind of idiot? Nah, but you're my kind of human. Very much so. Even when you taunt me with unattainable ice cream :)

Louise Boyd said...

Poor Chrissy :(
I was all ready to ship her with Eddie and then bam! Bones a'crackin!
Pretty cool way to get killed off, though.

Dex said...

Yes, it was quite sad. There are other characters who would have been more deserving! I have to admit I did find the 2nd episode a bit meh, but Kerry says it really picks up in episode 4.

I was also reminded that I never got around to watching Fear Street! Have you been watching anything good this week?

Louise Boyd said...

I've kind of been on a movie kick for the past few days, and it's a toss up between Encanto and Tick, Tick...BOOM! as my favourite watches so far.
Apparently it's my musical season *shrug*
You gotta watch the Fear Street trilogy, though. It's so hokey and gory; I loved it *-*
Maybe after Stranger Things? Which does indeed pick up after a few episodes. Insanely so.
I kind of loved the feature length episodes they had this season. Kinda made more sense with the amount of shit going on, y'know?
And any and all time I get to spend in Steve's presence is a blessing ^-^
Any favourites this season?

Dex said...

Well, I always like Max & Robin (both of whom I just found out are in Fear Street), and Eddie is a good new character :)

The only other thing I know about Fear Street is the bread slicer!

I would never have figured you for a musical guy :)

Dex said...

I'm also enjoying the Nancy + Robin team up this season!

Louise Boyd said...

Love Ronance. They need to hang out all the time and let Steve be their side-guy.
Jonathan can go get stoned somewhere x_x
He's never been my favourite character, I mostly think he's a really good brother, but otherwise? Meh. And I don't ship him and Nancy. That's a trauma relationship if ever I saw one.

I Love Eddie >_< Precious human. He's the second Dustin-dad we never knew we needed.

What point are you at now?
I got a bit bored during the Eleven stuff. I know she's kind of the main character but... not a fav. And I'd really like her to use her power without screaming =/
Madddd points for cold-cocking the bitch bully with a roller-skate, though *-*

Dex said...

I'll be watching episode 6 tonight. So episode 5 was a bit of a come down after Kate Bush. 4 seasons of Eleven dealing with her powers has become a bit tiresome. It would probably have been for the best if she'd lost them entirely. Also, I think she needs to be surrounded by better characters. Jonathan is, as you say, a bit meh (he was definitely more sympathetic as the concerned brother in season 1) and I cannot stand Mike (his relationship with Eleven is possibly my least favourite thing in the show).

I think that's the main problem with this season - the Vecna storyline and that group of characters are so much more interesting than the other storylines. Still, that storyline is as good as anything they've done :)

Feel free to disagree strongly with any of my above opinions. I'm frequently wrong about these things :D

Louise Boyd said...

Oh no, I basically agree with everything you said, the Duffer Brothers should've had Eleven's shit sorted out a bit more than they have by this point and I really wish they'd never gone there with Mike.
I did not need them to be a couple.
It's made them both pretty unbearable, but it's Mike that's pissed me off the most in this season.
They've turned him into such an insensitive ass. And he doesn't get the excuse of being a moody teenager, because everyone else is managing just fine!
And he's so mean to Will >_<
He literally started a Monster Hunting party to get his bestie back from a horror dimension and now he can't even say two nice words to him.
WTF?!
There's a moment in the penultimate episode with Will and Mike in a van and it's fucking heartbreaking and makes me fucking furious. You'll know it when you see it.
Will deserves a better best friend. I'd suggest Dustin but he's so busy dealing with his two dads, already :)

You know what they should never have done? Separated everyone.
They do it every season and honestly, I'm done with it. If that's the way they go for the finale, I might scream. You'll hear me all the way in Lerwick 0_0

Have you figured any of the Vecna stuff out yet?

Dex said...

Finished episode 6 and I'm 99% sure they won't kill off Steve. They can't! You wouldn't have been able to contain your outrage!

Well, I recognise the actor so assuming he gets turned into Vecna somehow, but that's about it :S

I would suggest Will and El become best friends and cut Mike out. That would really piss him off! Seriously, there better not be another scene of Mike telling El he loves her which magically helps to defeat Vecna.

Louise Boyd said...

The amount you hate Mike is bringing me so much joy.
I'm not fond but you're like, intensely hating on him.
I love it *-*

I scoffed so hard when Will called Mike the Heart of the group.
Like fuck he is!
That's my boy Dusty-bun ^-^

Dex said...

I suppose it's too much to hope that he dies in the season finale. Sorry, my hate may be going too far, but I'm assuming they are going to kill someone off! I have to admit, I wasn't blown away by the penultimate episode (especially compared to the Vecna reveal in the previous one) but I suppose they need to set everything up for the finale. And I am worried for a couple of my favourites!

Louise Boyd said...

You should always be worried! No one's ever safe!
And if you're not both exhausted and exhilarated by the end of the last episode, then I've a couple websites I can recommend to fix what's broken inside of you :)

Dex said...

It's okay, it turns out I'm not completely dead inside. That was an excellent episode :) I'm sad about Eddie though.

Louise Boyd said...

That was an excellent episode :) I'm sad about Eddie though.

...
THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY?!
Dude... <_<

Dex said...

I'm sorry I suck. All I can say is that I'd just finished it and was tired. Not much of an excuse I know, but it's all I have :)

I was going to give more opinions tonight but I was sent to find my mother who went missing at the beach with a couple of friends. Fortunately, she drove right by me on my way there so I was getting stressed for no reason. But I'm still in a mood :)

Louise Boyd said...

There's something farcical about that chain of events :)
Does your mum often get lost at the beach?
And how come you were the one sent to retrieve her?
I'm truly fascinated by how this all occurred.

Dex said...

It really wasn't that interesting :) She went whelking at Sands of Sound with a couple of friends and lost track of the time (she often does that) and left her mobile at home. It isn't that far from the house so I said I would go and look for her. That's about it :)

As for Stranger Things, Max is one of my favourite characters so I'm glad she survived, but I do feel that the writers cheated by having Eleven bringing her back to life. It's the same as season 3 when they wanted to have a dramatic death of a main character to close it out but couldn't bring themselves to really kill off Hopper. And even though the Joyce/Murray team up kind of saved it, the Russian storyline really didn't justify bringing Hopper back. But there were so many good things that I don't really mind. I'm so glad that Max and Lucas were at the forefront of the finale, and then there was the 'most metal ever' scene. Even little things like that moment between Jonathan and Will made a difference. I think I would much prefer that next season is a direct continuation from the end of this one, rather than cutting to 1 year later or whatever...

See, this is why I don't share my opinions :)

Louise Boyd said...

I'm guessing the point of whelking is to eat the whelk afterwards?
...
=/

Totally agree, I want season 5 to start maybe a few days after the finale, if not straight away and if they separate them again, I will scream.
I know it's a classic way of plotting but I'm just done with it. It took so long to get them back together, and honestly? I got frustrated with the stories outwith Hawkins. I love Hopper, so very much, but the Alaska/Russia stuff was kinda boring 0_0
At least until he fucked up the demogorgon with Conan the Barbarian's sword ← they actually used the sword from the original Schwarzenegger movie. So freaking cool.
And it was kinda worth it for him and Joyce to finally get together, and reuniting him with Eleven, but really, what was the point? Hopper's not the key to killing Vecna, so why sideline him?
They could've kept them all together in Hawkins and everything would probably still have gone exactly the same way!
I did enjoy the "death" of Papa, though :) That fucker needed shot up for the longest time. But I don't think he's actually dead ^-^

I feel like Max's your favourite :)
Excellent choice, she's a fucking badass, and goddamn finally, they gave Lucas a decent storyline! I love that little idiot, he's such a soft boy and they criminally underuse him.
If they wanted to sideline Eleven and Mike for Max and Lucas, I'd be allllll for it.

Dex said...

Actually, my mum is allergic to seafood :) So we never have it at home. Most people go whelking to sell them. Really, my mum just went because she was invited by her friends.

Even since season 2, the relationship between Max and Lucas has been so much more down to earth and relatable than Mike/Eleven. Admittedly, Eleven having superpowers and being raised in a laboratory may have something to do with that, but I don't care if I'm being unreasonable :)

Max, Lucas, Steve, Robyn... all favourites :) Probably one of my favourite aspects about Stranger Things is how they put characters together, like how putting Steve & Dustin together in season 2 totally changed how people saw Steve :) But you're right, they really need to keep them all in Hawkins next season!

I do miss Hopper as easy going, small town cop :)

Louise Boyd said...

It's too hot to responnnnnnd >_<

Dex said...

I suppose I shouldn't complain about us getting no sun while the rest of the country is baked!

Louise Boyd said...

Baked?
England got flambéed =/

I think you could team Dustin and Steve up with just about any character and it'd be delightful.
I got such big feels when Max was being Vecna'd at Billy's grave and Steve turned Dad-mode on instantly.

Dex said...

Steve in Dad-mode really is the best :)

How bad was the heat in Blair? Were you able to relax in the garden with something iced? Is Charlie coping okay?

Louise Boyd said...

I think the reason I love Steve so much is that he was unexpected.
The hot jock's rarely the character I grow attached to, but he's just so damn good and caring and funny.
So much character development in just the first season, within a few episodes! And he wasn't even meant to make it past season one 0_0
Steven Harrington, the babysitter that made the whole world swoon.

Charliebear was fine during the heatwave, he just became a furry pancake in various shady areas for the duration and hung out with us on the deck when he needed company.
We dripped water on his nose to keep him cool; it soaked in so fast *-*
I drowned myself in homemade iced coffee and strawberry ice cubes to ward off the 30 degree heat with no breeze! x_x
Did you not get any of this? Is Lerwick actually a little ice island?

Dex said...

Charlie has such a nice life :) I am jealous of your decking. Our garden doesn't have anything like that. It must be nice to have somewhere to sit on a warm day and enjoy iced coffee :) Also, what are strawberry ice cubes?!

We are lucky if it gets up to 15c! I don't think we've had a really nice day since the start of summer. But I suppose it is better than a heat wave!

Louise Boyd said...

The deck's pretty awesome, the only problem is my dad's a fucking lunatic who won't sit bloody still and ends up doing aggressive gardening (chopping stuff up, lots of noise, etc) in 30 degree heat.
...
Not exactly the most relaxing environment, especially when he forces you to help -_-
Thus why I downed about a gazillion strawberry ice cubes (blended strawberries frozen in ice cube trays. So good. Childhood favourite) when he finally lost steam.
I never want ice cream when it's hot. Ice and fruit, gimme that and I'll melt happily ^-^

Dex said...

Why can't parents relax! Weekends are so loud at home. My mum is the sort of person who spends hours on the phone to relatives and she has a very loud voice!

Do you have to help with the gardening? You definitely deserve iced fruit after that :)

Louise Boyd said...

Thankfully the rentals hate talking on the phone as much as we do, so I don't have to deal with that but they do sorta just plonk themselves down places with no consideration that someone might need that room for its actual purpose, and then have the audacity to get annoyed when you're frustrated they're in the way.
So frustrating! >_<

In my head your mum's tiny. Tiny but fierce but nice. I don't know why *-*

Louise Boyd said...

Ps. I haven't had a Freya update in ages! Tell me tales of the precious one!

Dex said...

Well, Freya has been going to ballet classes, she can now swim, she went to the circus the other day, and I miss her very much. I'm worried she won't even remember me now!

That sums up my mum perfectly :) I can't even picture your parents except that I know they must be very nice people!

Have you seen the film 'Ready of Not'? Kerry lent me the DVD to watch on my leave and I really enjoyed it! Also 'Romy & Michele's High School Reunion' :)

Louise Boyd said...

Of course she'll remember you! Once you encounter a Dexterous, you never forget!
You'll just have to go visit her if she can't come to you; a little visit so she can pirouette around you and show off her front crawl.
...
I've totally forgot all the names for swimming techniques.
Was there one about a frog?
I know there's a butterfly in there somewhere *-*

I LOVE READY OR NOT! AND ROMY AND MICHELLE!
Two movies that are classics for very different reasons.
Samara Weaving's outfit is in my dream cosplay list.
I love her. She's so unhinged >_<
Did you jump at the final moment?
I basically launched out of bed :)

Kerry has most excellent taste. Also, dvds. Why does that feel so retro, now? <_<

Ps. My mum's like me but with short, curly hair. Loves Fantasy/Sci-fi, lovely and caring but can singe you with a sick burn when she wants to :)
She just added a k-pop-metal song to her personal playlist; she's awesome ^-^

Dex said...

Samara Weaving was excellent! You have the best taste in cosplay outfits :) Such a hilariously gruesome ending, I was not expecting them all to explode, and so graphically! The movie definitely didn't shy away from the gore :) Also, I enjoyed watching that child get punched in the face. Totally deserved :) I always remember Henry Czerny from a couple of 90s films (Mission: Impossible, Clear and Present Danger) so I particularly enjoyed seeing him losing it as the dad :)

I remember front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke (I think that's the frog one) and butterfly which I always thought of as the complicated one :) When Freya visited last year, I remember watching Swan Lake with her. She would suddenly jump into the middle of the floor and pretend to be one of the dancers :) And we went swimming, although she couldn't swim back then. She made me carry her around on my back in the water :)

Your mum just sounds like the best kind of person :) I did know that she loves Fantasy/Sci-fi. Does she have any particular favourites? I wouldn't have guessed that she listens to k-pop metal though :)

Louise Boyd said...

It was just one song but who knows, it could be her gateway jam to further k-metal endeavours ^-^
She is the one who used to headbang with us to Yngwie Malmsteen when we were little, after all.
Her taste in music is one of my favourite things about her. My dad's very cerebral about music, total muso-snob, which I like as well, he introduced me to some truly magical things and made appreciate music I might not have touched before but my mum always brought the fun.
Spin Doctors.
Madness.
Deacon Blue
Eurythmics
Shania Twain
Anything she can bounce and sing to, she'll play it full blast.
I can often hear Nirvana thumping from their bedroom :)
My musical education's been a blast, but I took it over a decade ago when I stopped giving a fuck about what I should or shouldn't like, what the rentals might like.
I like what I like and I'm a real brat about it, earned myself a reputation ^-^

Wait, wait, wait... you carried her around on your shoulders?!
...
I'm getting the cutest visuals >_<
It couldn't have been any other way, though.
Queens get carried, obviously.
I bet she'd still get you to do it now :)
She's so fucking cool.

You've got Amazon Prime, right?
You should watch Guns Akimbo. It's a bloody, gruesome mess but Samara Weaving's even more unhinged in that. And also shooting everything in sight. S'glorious.
Oh! And The Babysitter on Netflix!
She should be batshit in everything 0_0

Dex said...

Thank you for the recommendations. They look crazy :) I didn't even know who Samara Weaving was before 'Ready or Not'!

I got ripped apart at work a few weeks ago for not knowing who Madness were? I'm sure you would have joined in the ripping apart if you were there :) The gaps in my music knowledge really are amazing though!

I have always loved that fact about you, that you like what you like and are not afraid of expressing it :) Your parents really sound into there music though! It sounds like your mum and dad balance each other out nicely. I don't think I've met many mums cool enough to blast Nirvana from their bedroom :) Did you say a long time ago that your dad has a room for all his records?

Freya was more clinging to my back as I swam along. Or she was on her dad's back telling him to chase me as she was a shark and I was her next meal :)

Louise Boyd said...

Sometimes I think I need you to stop telling me Freya Facts 'cause they're just too much for my brain to handle but then I think... nah, she's a frickin' gift to the universe and I must know all! >_<

Okay, I could forgive never hearing a Madness song - it'd be crazy but I could handle it, but never having heard of the band?!
Dexterous, I love you dearly but WTF?!
They're like The Beatles or Queen or Led Zeppelin, you know them from inside the womb!
...
My mind is completely blown by this *-*

Dex said...

That's was pretty much the same reaction at work! You know how limited my range of music is :) I wasn't even sure what ska was, to be honest. Please don't tell your family, they might not want you speaking to me anymore!

If she was here, I'd just be telling you Freya facts all the time! And thank you for always asking after her, it always makes me happy to talk about the little monster :)

Guess what I've finally started watching? Fear Street :)

Louise Boyd said...

Yayyy! It's some good, hokey gore, right?
Poor Robin, though =/

Had my first Little Moon tonight. Mango and passionfruit.
...
I'm underwhelmed >_<
I need more Freya Facts to make up for it.

Dex said...

One thing my cousin was saying about Freya is that she's continually falling off her bike because she gets so excited when she sees a flower or an animal that she'll basically leap off her bike before it stops moving so she can go and investigate :)

I do like Little Moons but they cost so much up here. You might prefer the hazelnut and chocolate? I think I also saw a coconut flavour.

I would have been totally fine with Robin being a main character :) I have to say that apart from the opening scene and the bread slicer, 1994 was my least favourite. I think I would rank them 1978, 1666, 1994. Did you have a favourite?

Louise Boyd said...

That is the exact reason why I don't drive.
I'd veer off the side of the road at the sight of a puppy or start chasing after the ice cream truck 0_0
Oh, and I changed my mind about the Little Moons. I love them *-*
And I learned my lesson and read the instructions this time instead of giving my fingertips frost burn and having to shove the entire thing in my mouth :)
I didn't know you had to wait!
And I probably still wouldn't if I hadn't told the siblings about it, who then proceeded to mock me ^-^
...
COCONUT?!
Oh no...

My FS order? 1978, 1994, 1666
Sadie Sink was so goooood. And I liked the level of gore in that one. 1666 felt a little bloodless to me, but it had a Crucible vibe that I was really digging.

Ps. Are her little knees and elbows okay after these falls?! >_<

Dex said...

I'm pretty sure I did the same when I tried my first Little Moon :) You'll definitely need to try the coconut and tell me what it's like!

I think Freya is a little version of you :) I don't think she minds the falls at all. What's a tiny scrape when you can say hello to a hedgehog :)

Totally agree about Sadie Sink! I did like how 1666 tied everything together and there were a couple of nice twists. 1994 just reminded how great Scream is :) I think I'll watch Screams 1-4 this weekend!

Louise Boyd said...

I'd skin my knee for a hedgehog. I'd cry but i'd do it. Luckily, I wasn't riding a bike when I saw one shuffling on the path by the deck last night.
Their little legs kill me >_<
Oh, and I'm flattered but I think Freya's some otherworldly, ethereal entity and none of us mere mortals compare ^-^

I haven't watched Scream in so long. I love that it's funny. Horror's so much better when it's at least a bit funny.
Give me Shaun of the Dead over Night of the Living Dead.

Dex said...

Scream has just the right level of humour. I actually don't think there's another film that does it quite as well. Kerry decided to watch it along with me last night (it's her favourite film). We decided that Casey and bloodied Billy would make for excellent Halloween costumes :)

I do get very excited when I see a hedgehog in the garden :) Another thing about Freya is that even though she will damage herself to get near a tiny creature or pretty flower, she's so careful with them. You know how some kids can be pretty heavy handed, you never need to worry about that with Freya.

Louise Boyd said...

Well of course, the Fae folk go to great lengths to care for their flock.
And she's the queen of them all ^-^

Casey and bloodied Billy are awesome choices. The Casey costume has to come with the giant phone, though.
I'd probably dress up as Dewey, moustache and all =/

Dex said...

I think you could be Sidney in her denim :) Sorry for the short message tonight. It's been odd weekend and I'm still trying to process a couple of things that have happened! I'll tell you all about it tomorrow :)

Louise Boyd said...

I think that's the most cryptic message you've ever left me 0_0
You better be alright! Or I'm gonna have to fight the universe.

Dex said...

I'm really sorry, Lilliputty. I didn't mean to make you worry. Hopefully you'll understand why my brain was a bit frazzled yesterday when I explain below. I feel awful involving you in drama but I also need to tell you everything!

The main drama, and this is rather awful, is that my cousin and her husband might be breaking up. I didn't even know they were having problems! Hopefully they will be able to talk through it but she phoned my mum in tears yesterday, asking if she and Freya can move up to Shetland and live with us when she moves out. It's all very sad even though I would love to see Freya all the time!

Louise Boyd said...

No other way to say it other than that really sucks, Dexterous.
But no matter what happens, Freya'll always have her big cousin/uncle? looking out for her :)

If things get really weird, you know I'm always around, lurking on the internet, at the ready for a good vent or to distract with nonsense.
Always, always, always!

Dex said...

Thank you, Lilliputty. You do know I love you very much, right? And I promise it'll be more distraction with nonsense than venting. It's more my style :)

It's 2 August! I was completely forgetting about your monthly blog post! I now know what I'm doing this evening :) I'm also going to have to start thinking about our upcoming birthday!

Louise Boyd said...

Love you too, idiot ^-^

Can I just sleep through our birthday?
I don't wanna age anymoreeeeee >_<
I'll sleep-eat cake if I have to. I totally believe in my abilities to do it.

Dex said...

I can totally picture you sleep eating :) I would send you baked goods from the cake fridge for our birthday if I could. That was something exciting I didn't tell you! I went to the cake fridge last Friday when I was on leave. Basically, my work colleagues ordered me to go, since it is nearby, and bring them food to get them through the day! So I got some millionaire's shortbread and rocky road biscoff tray bake to share with them. And secretly for myself, a banoffee cookie cream sandwich. It was really good :)

Louise Boyd said...

Millionaire's shortbread
Rocky Road Biscoff Tray Bake
Banoffee Cookie Cream Sandwich
...
A CURSE UPON YOUR HOUSE. A CURSE!
...
If I was actually a witch, you'd be totally bricking it <_<

How dare you have a magical cake fridge within walking distance.
What are you, a forest creature?!

Ps. The mother has a question!
She'd like to know how to probably say Lerwick.
She watches that show Shetland and apparently they say both "Ler-wick" and "Lerrick".
She'd like to know which is accurate and also hello! :)

Louise Boyd said...

probably?
...
Properly <_<

Dex said...

Say hello to your mum as well and tell her they're both acceptable :) I would always say 'Ler-wick' but a lot of Shetlanders say 'Lerrick'. You really need the accent. I just think it sounds weird to say it that way without a Shetland accent. My voice is way too boring :) It seems to be a thing with place names in Shetland - Scalloway is 'Scallowah', Walls is 'Waas', Sandness is 'Saness' :)

The cake fridge was quite a walk up the hill though if that makes it any better :) Besides, I'm the one who should be jealous of your baking sisters :)

Louise Boyd said...

I've the exact same problem.
Not having a broad accent never bothers me until I try and say something quintessentially Scottish and it comes out bizarrely formal =/
Stramash is such a good word and I sound like a total dick saying it >_<

Problem with the sisters baking is they choose what they make.
I don't get to pick from a magical fridge!
And I'd climb that hill, Dexterous. For a Banoffee Cookie Cream Sandwich? I'd scale the Fairy Hills 0_0 (also known as the Sidlaws ^-^)

Dex said...

I'm not even sure I could say Stramash correctly if I tried!

Someone should tell my mum about not saying dialect words unless you have the accent. She still has a little bit of her Philippine accent and she'll just randomly drop Shetland words in sentences. It always makes me laugh :)

If it makes any difference, I was thinking of you while I was eating it :) And your sisters will make you something that you want for your birthday.
Do you have any more ideas? Also, you have a place called the Fairy Hills near you?!

Louise Boyd said...

We do indeed.
You could see them from the top floor of the primary school. I used to look at them when I was bored in class 0_0
There's SO much Fae stuff in Scotland. It's kinda awesome.

I think for my birthday I just want a giant bowl of chocolate mousse. Maybe with galettes to scoop it with.
I haven't decided! But it's a top tier option.

Your mum sounds kind of adorable ^-^
What kinda words does she say?

Dex said...

The one I always laugh at is 'bairns' because she pronounces it 'burns' :) Listening to her talk about the burns in the nursery and realising she is meaning the children :)

They sound kind of magical. I probably would have been staring at them too :) Our primary school didn't even have a top floor, it was all on the same level. I don't even remember the view so it can't have been very memorable. My favourite memory of primary school was the coffee morning sales they occasionally had at weekends. It was basically a car boot sale inside a school with added homebakes. They used to take up the whole school and were so random and you used to be able to find the most amazing rubbish amongst it all :)

What is a galette?! If they can be used to scoop up chocolate mousse, I'm all for them :) I bought these really weird things from the supermarket the other week - crodots! Basically, they are the shape of doughnuts but with the texture of croissants. Very weird!

Louise Boyd said...

Coffee mornings were the best!
I got the weirdest toys. The one that sticks in my memory was this palm sized hairy creature with a soft little face. Like if a Sasquatch was kawaii. I loved it.
This is a pretty accurate portrayal of me with this toy:
https://c.tenor.com/ykQ6QAjYj1IAAAAC/hes-so-ugly-marvel.gif

Oh, and there was always cake. Many varieties.
Did you get cake?

Galettes are kind of like flattened waffles but more biscuity. Taste like buttered sugar which normally I don't like but some sort of magic happens with them and I stop being grossed out.
My grandparents always had them at their house in Glasgow when I was little. Excellent for dipping in, well, anything.
I can't find any decent looking ones online, though!
Can't even remember the brand. Hmm. Gonna have to investigate that tomorrow.
Or ask for Langues de chat. No waffle texture but I tasty alternative.

Ooh, are the crodots kind of like yum yums? Very sugary, super moist, lots of layers?
'Cause I think I've eaten one!
I... would've preferred a yum yum ^-^

Dex said...

I like to think 8 year old Maggot & Fungus would have made an excellent duo at these coffee mornings, seeking out weird toys and cakes. And I could have seen your reaction first hand :) Did you ever have that terrifying moment when you saw something you wanted but didn't have enough money, so had to go and find your parents, and hope that by the time you got back someone else hadn't snagged it :)

There were always cakes. Shetlanders can't do anything without homebakes. I think there may be a local law :)

Galettes, Langues de chat... one of these days you'll need to teach me about all these things that have been missing from my life :) I love yum yums too! Crodots are very similar in texture but a different shape and not as good. Still, I enjoy anything coated in sugar :)

Louise Boyd said...

Then you'd love doughnut muffins.
Em made them once and they were perfectly doughy, rolled in sugar which kind of clumped together in a really gooey way.
I loved them but no one else did so she never made them againnnnn >_<
The Nomming Woes of Maggot
That's gonna be the title of my memoirs.

I totally had FOMO at coffee mornings!
Luckily the mater was always easy to find. I had mum-radar whenever social things were happening, being the nervous little monster that I continue to be. Plus, everyone else's mum looked like a mum, whereas my co-creator would be wearing tie-dye rainbow leggings, Docs, and a baggy, grunge jumper.
She was awesome *-*
Still is, but she ditched the leggings and kept the Docs ^-^

Dex said...

'The Nomming Woes of Maggot' - could it be fully illustrated like a Roald Dahl book so I could give it to Freya to read :)

I promise that if I did steal you away to come live with me one of these days, I would try to learn how to bake your favourite things! We'd need to live on something!

You have the coolest mum! If we were best friends in primary, I would always have looked forward to coming over to your house :) Anything else she wears or has worn that I should know about?

Louise Boyd said...

The only thing that stands out specifically in my head is a shiny silvery green bomber jacket.
Kinda like this:

https://marketplace.asos.com/listing/jackets/vintage-90s-satin-bomber-jacket-in-grey/7279175?affid=23853&gclid=CjwKCAjw6MKXBhA5EiwANWLODPmfnlCy2NrKjwb3ks-BykkvavZKHDXwF1BUUrhTF7khCpoiJGLLrRoCYk4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&WT.ac=redirect%7c7279175

But puffier with a subtle graph print all over it and way more awesome.
She looked like an astronaut 0_0
My mum's way cooler than me. I so wouldn't have the guts to wear a space jacket >_<

The Nomming Woes of Maggot would absolutely bed illustrated but by Tove Jansson, instead, so Freya could get the full Maggot as a Moomin effect ^-^
...
If I had any illustrative or storytelling skills, I would make the shit out of this book.

I promise that if I did steal you away to come live with me one of these days, I would try to learn how to bake your favourite things! We'd need to live on something!

Nicest thing anyone's said to me all dayyyyy >_<
As long as you can master French Toast, I think we'd be fine :)

Dex said...

Are you still getting nice weather in Blair? Has the heat wave disappeared? It's been raining here the last few days so still no sign of summer.

Obviously, I would want you to read that book to Freya! And I think Freya would actually love if you read to her :) She had me read a Dr Seuss book to her when she was here. It took about an hour as she insisted I describe all the pictures to her :)

On any day you want something more than French Toast, just send me up the hill to the cake fridge :)

I'm very jealous of your space mum :)

Louise Boyd said...

We're currently going through another mini heatwave. 25 degrees tomorrow. And I'm too grumpy to enjoy it x_x

I've never read a Dr Seuss book. I don't think we even have one in the house from when we were kids.
I've watched a couple of the movies. The Lorax is probably my favourite. Danny DeVito as a furry, ginger, forest creature is just *chef's kiss*.
Are the books any good?
They must be if Freya likes them enough to make demands :)

I'm craving Bubble Tea.
Or maybe just the tapioca juice bubbles submerged in it.
Ughhhhh I hate cravings I can't fulfil! The magical Boba cart that used to be in Dundee isn't even there anymore :(
I do have gummy bears and Fanta, though.
...
That'll work, yeah? =/

Dex said...

I've only read the one that Freya made me - 'Oh, The Places You'll Go!'. It was basically a character travelling through various strange places. Not much else happened but Freya wanted me to describe all the different worlds in detail :)

I'm beginning to think it'll never be summer here. I'm sorry to here you're grumpy, Lilliputty. You deserve to enjoy the nice weather! I wish there was something I could do to cheer you up!

You're going to have to tell me all about Bubble Tea! I've never heard of it, let alone had it! Also about the Boba cart!

Louise Boyd said...

Bubble Tea (aka. Boba Tea) is traditionally cold, sweet tea with tapioca balls submerged inside. Some are chewy, some have juice inside.
And it doesn't have to be tea.
Coffee, juice, cordials, chocolate milk, any liquid, really.
But there must be balls, otherwise it's just a basic bitch drink >_<
I've only had it a few times (from the Boba cart, which was exactly as it sounds: a little cart in a mall that sold Boba), and it was so freaking good.
I love foods where I get to drink and eat at the same time.
Which is why milkshakes with stuff in them are the best milkshakes ^-^

Okay, I'm confused, why wasn't Freya getting to see the pictures in the story?!

Dex said...

Why have I never heard of this?! I want to go to the Boba cart and get Boba tea! So the tapioca balls with the juice inside, is it a fruit juice? Even when it's in tea? Also, what kinds did you used to get from the Boba cart? And what kinds of things do you like to put in milkshakes? Sorry for all the questions. But I do love hearing about your food adventures!

Oh, Freya was looking at the pictures with me. She just liked asking me what everything was. That's why it took us so long to read :)

Louise Boyd said...

Good lord, she's precious *-*
Were they fictional places or real places?

1) The juice inside the tapioca balls is indeed juice. Very sweet. Very concentrated.
2) It depends on the tea! If you're getting chai, then the balls are the chewy tapioca, if you're getting fruit tea or juice, the tapioca has juice concentrate inside. You can get the chewy kind for fruity drinks, but I never have so I don't know if it's good or not.
3) I've only had Bubble Tea a couple of times, and I remember the orange, mango, raspberry juice with blackberry tapioca specifically - fucking incredible 0_0
4) I like smarties in my milkshakes! Drop 'em in, watch the colours bleed, and get a crunchy treat at the end ^-^

I'd like to get one of those milkshakes you suck through a doughnut, though. That sounds epic 0_0

Dex said...

Fictional places. I'm sure I did a terrible job of explaining but Freya has such a happy imagination :)

Milkshake through a doughnut?! Where do you here about these things?! You know about all the best things! Bubble tea, smarties in milkshakes... Did you just decide to drop them in one day? :) One of these days, I'm going to find a Boba Cart and take you to it to get you your favourite Bubble Tea!

Lilliputty, I went to the cake fridge today! Galaxy Millionaire Shortbread :) I took some to work but fortunately there was hardly anyone in so most of it has come back with me, and my parents are in Sandness this weekend so no one to share with. Pity. I do wish you were here though :)

Louise Boyd said...

That was the least sincere Pity I've ever heard!
You monster :O
But, y'know, same *-*

Ohhhhhh I don't like Galaxy, so I'm not jealous of your shortbread ^-^
Unless it was galaxy themed!
Was it starry on top?
An entire Nebula just for your mouth?
Did I totally overthink this? :D
And how do I hear about wondrous foodstuffs?
Cooking shows, Dexterous. Cooking shows.
The life-changing things you learn on the Great British Bake Off 0_0

Dex said...

I would happily share with you :) I really need to learn your chocolate preferences though! Favourite chocolate bars? I'm pretty sure your an Aero rather than a Wispa girl :)

I love your overthinking :) Anything decorated like a galaxy is the best! I think I'm okay just relying on you to share all the wondrous foodstuffs with me :)

I've watched a couple of films this weekend. The new Scream film and some weird comedy time travel slasher called Detention!

Louise Boyd said...

Definitely Aero, but only Mint.
Original Aero taste like chocolatey air and Wispas taste like that chocolate Monica's trying to shill in Friends, Mocklate.
Dissssgusting!
The best chocolate is Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut. It may not be interesting, it may not be fancy, but it's reliable and awesome.
Toblerone's fucking amazing, as well.
Green & Black's can go fuck itself ^-^

What's the new Scream like? Have they finally managed to kill Sidney?!
And does Detention have Josh Hutcherson in it?

Dex said...

I do love your opinions :) I've never understood what the big deal with Green & Black is. Just because it comes in fancy looking wrapping. I think I've had Mint Aero tray bake before but I can't swear to it.

Scream was good. Some nice brutal kills. Not as much humour as the previous films and one of the main characters did get killed off (I won't tell you which one).

Yes, Josh Hutcherson was in Detention! Have you seen it? I could be wrong but it may be your kind of film!

Louise Boyd said...

I haven't seen it, but I am intrigued as to why it might be "my thing".
Tell me why, give me reasons, and is it on a platform I can watch?

You have had Mint Aero Traybake! I remember you telling me and being blinded with furious jealousy ^-^
I wonder if it tasted like Mint Slice...

Dex said...

Okay, well it has quite a good soundtrack, there's a time travelling bear, lots of 90s references, a slasher killer called Cinderhella, a human fly, tv hands, lots of swearing... Unfortunately, I don't think it's anywhere free. You can buy it on prime but Kerry lent me the blu-ray. It's seems really difficult to get on blu-ray or dvd (probably why her box was written in French!).

I think someone at work made the Mint Aero Slice. Clearly it's just such a normal thing to happen to me that I barely acknowledged it (said like a complete and total fucker) :)

Louise Boyd said...

You had me at time travelling bear *-*
And I love that lots of swearing is a Maggot requirement xD
Foul-mouthed harridan, that is I ^-^

it's just such a normal thing to happen to me that I barely acknowledged it (said like a complete and total fucker) :)

The worst.
You're the absolute worst!

Ps. What's a tv hand... ? o_O

Dex said...

It also has characters dancing to a performance of Mmmbop at prom and another plot involving the end of the world. The tv hand is hard to explain (even though it is pretty much what it sounds like). Cinderhella does end up taking quite a beating from it!

I promise I'll make it up to you someday. It hardly makes up for Mint Aero traybake, but I have ordered you a few things for our birthday. You deserve so much more but I really do suck at present buying!

Louise Boyd said...

Cinderhella does end up taking quite a beating from it!
...
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?! >_< 0_0 X_X
I need to see this movie. Just so I can understand this new language you're speaking o_o

I haven't shopped yet >_<
That's tomorrow's problem, as today I've felt like a monster truck ran over me several thousand times ^-^

Dex said...

What happened, Lilliputty? Are you okay?! You really don't need to worry about getting me very much at all for my birthday (I know you get mad when I say you don't have to get me anything). I've only bought you a few small things so please don't make a big deal out of present buying :)

Louise Boyd said...

Shut up and enjoy your gifts, or I'll get even grumpier ^-^

Nothing's wrong, though, I just get really surly sometimes.
Doesn't happen often, usually around shark week, sometimes just because.
I took an accidental nap after dinner and felt better :)
The only thing bugging me right now is the tree pollen avalanching from the trees and aggravating my hay fever.
I want to be able to swallow properly again >_<

Dex said...

Well, I certainly don't want to make you grumpier by refusing presents :) I'm sorry your hay fever is so bad. I really hope it passes soon!

Hopefully the ones I got for you will turn up fairly quickly. Do you have any plans for what you want to do on our birthday?

It's Friday tomorrow but I really I don't think I can justify going to the cake fridge again!

Louise Boyd said...

What kind of attitude is that?!
Every day is a cake fridge day!
Has there ever been something truly unexpected inside?

Two boxes arrived today.
Em had to pry my grippy paws off them so I wouldn't open them straight away :)
Hopefully the things I've got you will arrive before the big day but uh, y'know, after-birthday presents are pretty awesome too? -_*

Birthdays are so weird, especially when you share them.
I've never really felt like mine was all for me, literally because it isn't.
And I'm trying not to be resentful, because I've got family who love me, and want to celebrate me, but ughhhhh I just want it to be a completely normal day where everyone's slightly nicer to me and give me cake but I don't have be extra chipper for anyone -_-
They're my family, we should be goblins together, not performing like we're respectable humans! >_<
...
Birthdays are only good when you're a kid, or have people who'll just let you stay in bed all day and binge watch the entirety of Netflix 0_0
...
Okay, poison expelled, I'll go back to being nice again, now *-*

Dex said...

I'll be happy whenever they arrive :) Sorry, I probably sent mine way too early again! The insides really aren't that exciting but hopefully you like them. Emily did good to stop you from opening them though :)

You know you can always vent to me! You should be able to do whatever you want on your birthday. If it's staying in bed and watching Netflix while someone brings you cake and presents, I don't see what's wrong with that!

That particular cake fridge is only open on Fridays so every Friday is cake fridge day :) I'm ashamed to say I've only been twice despite it being so close. The banoffee cookie cream sandwich was the best but the millionaire's shortbread is amazing too. I have a feeling I've missed out on some amazing things though!

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, so it's a special Friday cake fridge.
I see how it is.
The Fair Folk only grant the mortals their wares at the end of the work week.
How unseasonably generous of them!
...
I've gotta stop reading books about the Fae; I'm making everything about them, now *-*

I think Sarah's making Mars Bar cake this weekend.
Nom nom.
Have you ever made it, though?
So disgusting to look at when it's being mixed up.
Butter and chocolate might make delicious things but their initial coming together is sloppy hell 0_0

Dex said...

I'm sorry for the late reply, Lilliputty. I've been out and have only got home right now! I'll tell you all about my nighttime adventures tomorrow (or today, since it is already 4am!).

It's probably just as well it is on Friday for the cake fridge or I'd be as big as a house :) Also never stop reading books about the Fae!

Have I ever made Mars Bar cake? This is me, Lilliputty. Of course not :) On a scale of 1-10, how amazing is it?!

Okay, so sleepy! Although this is your normal bedtime :)

Louise Boyd said...

INTRIGUE! *-*

Dex said...

I meant to say I received a couple of parcels in the post! I can't imagine who they are from... Thank you!

I was just at Kerry's watching some films. Not quite sure why I couldn't just tell you that last night!

Louise Boyd said...

...
That was anticlimactic, Dexterous!
Unless there's more to it... I feel like there's more to it... <_0
And what movies? Was she educating you in horror?

If one of those parcels looks like food... it might be food and you should eat it before the 27th ^-^

Dex said...

I'm sorry Lilliputty, I hate not telling you things. Yes, there was more. I've had a crush on her for about as long as I've known her, but then we've become really close friends these last 2 years, so I never really thought anything would happen. Probably won't be long before she realises how much of a loser I am, although she definitely knows I'm a complete weirdo! I don't know how comfortable you feel talking about these things (I'm assuming you're as awkward as me) but you're my best friend so I hope you are okay with me being one of those awful relationship people we've actively avoided all these years! You are actually the first person either of us has told and I know this is a terrible cliche but I think you would really like her.

Also, did you send me cake?!

Louise Boyd said...

I KNEW IT! :D
I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!
And yes I'm an awkward weirdo who cringes at relationship talk but *virtually flicks your forehead* you're my best friend, idiot!
Tell me when you have a girlfriend!
Especially when she sounds awesome, I like her already, stupid >_<
Ugh, you're such a brat.
But I'm stupid happy for you, and extra glad that I did indeed send you cake ^-^
...
Can't believe you didn't tell me. Such a sneaky little fucker *-*

Ps. My brain's exploding because you achieved the infamous friends-to-lovers literary trope.
...
You're living the dream 0_0

Pps. Sorry not sorry for calling you various shades of moron :)

Dex said...

Thank you so much, Lilliputty! Best reaction ever :D For some reason, I was very nervous about telling you, but I'm glad I did, even if it was a little late. Sorry. I deserve all the head flicking and name calling!

I promise I won't turn into a selfish asshole who forgets his best friend, especially since you send me cake (I'm going to try some tonight)! We are trying to keep it secret at the moment because of the awkward work situation so I don't know how things will work out... I really hope they do though.

Oh, and we were watching horror on Saturday! The Halloween remake from a few years ago and You're Next.

Louise Boyd said...

All the fingers crossed for you and the Ker-monster. The Kerinator? The Keraken?
Hmm, it'll come to me.
I wouldn't worry too much about the work situation, the most that'll happen is some routine teasing. It's inevitable and cannot be fought 0_0 But meh, secret dating's fun, so keep doing that 'til it feels right, I say ^-^

Tell me how the cake was! I almost licked the screen when I ordered it 0_0

Dex said...

I think we will definitely listen to your advice! I might wait a while for the nicknames though :) We are going out on a proper date on Saturday though, for our birthday.

The cake was amazing! You're the best! I'm going to have another piece tonight even though it is nearly midnight! It is the perfect ratio of chocolate to cake, and just the right level of sweetness! I didn't even know that sending cake through the post was a thing! How did you find out about this?!

Louise Boyd said...

You can't stop me. Nicknaming's my divine right. I'll nickname a random butterfly if I so wish!

A birthday date? Fucking adorable, but I have to retch in your general direction to restore the balance of the universe. Sorry! ^-^

How did you not know about letterbox cake?!
Oh, I remember, because YOU HAVE MAGICAL FRIDAY CAKE FRIDGES! >_<

Dex said...

Tomorrow is Friday so I could go to the cake fridge! I'm embarrassed to say I only have one more piece of letterbox cake left!

You are the best at nicknaming so please never stop :) Do you get to choose something to watch with your family on your birthday? Or do you save that for when you're safely on your own at the end of the day?

Louise Boyd said...

I love that you're going to the cake fridge when you've not even finished the letterbox cake.
You monster.
Captain Candyclaws, through and through :D
*all said with a mild tone of jealous...* <_<

I fully intend to start watching The Sandman.
I love those comics so much and I'm stupid excited about it, and apparently it's really good >_<

Dex said...

You deserve a perfect day tomorrow. Sandman, presents, a giant bowl of chocolate mousse :) Please let me know how it goes.

I've finally got around to watching The Good Place. Chidi is definitely my favourite character! Continuing with the 2nd season tonight.

I'm saving the last bit of letterbox cake for tomorrow :)

Louise Boyd said...

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that Chidi's your favourite.
But it's an excellent choice because he's fucking adorable ^-^
Not my favourite, though, not that I actually have favourites because they're all so bloody lovely, but my favourite-favourite will always be Janet *swoon*
SUCH a tall drink of omniscient water. Her timing is *chef's kiss*
For some reason I'd thought you'd already watch the series. Did I not bully you enough?
Hmm, lacking in my bff duties -_-

We ditched the chocolate mousse for chocolate/hazelnut trifle with langues de chat.
I've been eating the separate parts of it all day and FUCK, this dessert might kill me, so I'm gonna say HAPPY FUCKING BIRTHDAY, DEXTEROUS, LOVE YOU TO FUCKING PIECES AND HOPE YOU HAVE AN AWESOME DATE now, just in case it really is a death by chocolate situation :)

Dex said...

Happy fucking birthday too, Lilliputty! I love you so much and you deserve all the chocolate/hazelnut trifle with langues de chat (not jealous at all...). I really hope it doesn't kill you but if it does, what a way to go! I would miss you though. One of these days, you'll be close enough to threaten me with physical violence if I don't watch one of your favourite shows :)

Thank you for the lovely presents and I'm sorry I ate all the letterbox cake before our birthday (although technically I only ate the last bit today at 1am!).

Louise Boyd said...

Firstly, never apologise for eating cake. That goes against our religion.
And secondly...

YOU SAID YOU BOUGHT A COUPLE A SMALL THINGS! NOT THE ENTIRE MOOMIN SERIES, YOU LOVELY LUNATIC! 0_0

I gasped, Dexterous. Like some thunderstruck Hollywood starlet *-*
You bloody spoil me, and I don't deserve it... but I will accept it because omfg MOOMINS >_<

Thank you, thank you, thank you; you're so much better at this gift buying thing but next year I'm putting you on budget 0_0

Ps. The trifle nearly killed me. I had to gulp down water to counteract the goddamn decadence of it.
I hope you got something sugary, as well :)

Dex said...

I was very nervous you'd think I was being ridiculous buying you Moomin books!
You really are the best person to buy presents for!

I just bought some chocolate croissants for myself. They are currently my pastry of choice :) Nothing as magical as your trifle! It sounds so rich, even thinking about it makes me feel thirsty :)

Did you start watching Sandman?

Louise Boyd said...

Nah, I'm gonna wait 'til I've panic-finished the Monthlies so I can focus on it properly.
Those who say all women can multitask are dirty, filthy liars *-*

Did you have a good birthday?
The fam sends birthday wishes by the way, I totally forgot to say it yesterday >_<
I'd swear I was developing early onset dementia but nah, space cadet since birth, but also freakishly focused at times :)

Oh, and I'm the one who should be embarrassed. I piled all the Moomin books up today and stroked their covers lovingly =/
It's when you really hope inanimate objects aren't actually sentient because I'm basically constantly molesting them x_x

Dex said...

I did have a good birthday, thank you! And your family really are the best for thinking of me! I don't think Kerry or myself were particularly keen on going out to the cinema but we'd planned it before anything had happened between us! So we sat through the film and then retreated to her house to watch more of The Good Place :)

I wish everyone loved books as much as you :) And you did say happy birthday to me on our birthday! At 00:54 :) Good luck finishing the monthlies! I bet you can be freakishly focused when you're doing that!

Louise Boyd said...

I only look up when my fingers start to burn :)
I'll get it done, as per usual, and promise myself I'll be more organise next month.
The lies I tell myself... <_<

What stage of the The Good Place are you at?
And have you fallen in love with every one of them yet?

Ps. So glad you had a nice birthday, Dexterous ^-^

Dex said...

I've just started the 3rd season (this is a re-watch for Kerry). I have a feeling it's going to break my heart at the end!

Your monthly blog posts really are worth the finger burn :) I'm always jealous of how full your months have been! I would struggle to fill an A4 piece of paper with all the interesting things I find in a month :)

You definitely helped make it a nicer birthday with your presents. Thank you again!

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, it'll totally break your heart but the question is... in a good way? Or a bad way? Or both?!
...
Looking forward to you finding out and Kerry's willpower not to spoil you :D

I would struggle to fill an A4 piece of paper with all the interesting things I find in a month :)

I dunno, Dexterous, I think you've had a pretty interesting month :)

Dex said...

We are still being very secretive about it! I think Kerry has told one person, and I've told you, and that's it! And she is very good at not spoiling things :)

What other presents did you get for your birthday? Do you have any of the chocolate trifle left?!

Louise Boyd said...

The trifle was finished tonight, and I think mostly by me.
No one else had my sugar coma determination *-*
And presents-wise, it was a lot of books (shocking), trainers (they give me an extra inch of height; so good), this little metal house to put in with my plants (makes more sense when you see it), andddd the usual tv series, a new sweatshirt, some prints, etc.
A pretty good horde, if I do say so myself :)

Ugh, I'm not get all smooshy or anything, but if you ever need to talk about the Kerry stuff, for whatever reason, good, hopefully never bad, general confusion, I am always around.
I might make barf noises in your general direction but it's all done in an affectionate way, I promise!
Okay, blech, hallmark moment over.
Embarrassing thing for me, instead:

Livejournal emailed me because apparently it's my 17th anniversary on there 0_0
I think it's been 17 years since I was on there.
I'm gonna read all my cringey entries tomorrow with a glass chocolate milk and try not to dissolve into my mattress ^-^

Dex said...

Did you do Livejournal nostalgia and chocolate milk tonight? :)

Thank you, Lilliputty. I feel so much better knowing that I have you to talk to! You'll probably be glad to know that I'm usually too embarrassed to talk about relationship stuff even though I'm riddled with anxieties! I will definitely keep telling you about Kerry though. I'll tell her about you as well. Because you're a pretty special human whom I think she would like!

Well, the trifle was for your birthday so you did deserve most of it :) Those sound like your kind of presents! Your family clearly knows you very well! Hopefully I'll see the little metal house one of these days.

Louise Boyd said...

I mean, we both have excellent taste in media, and that's like... 80% of what I base good relationships on, so... :D

I did livejournal and chocolate milk!
I thought it'd be uber-embarassing but actually, it just sounds like me but way whinier with worse punctuation.
It was awesome 0_0
Like time travelling to being 22.
THIS is why people keep diaries; I never understood it before!
Have you ever kept one?
I always reckoned I'd never have enough to write about =/

Example of Maggot's Theoretical Diary:

Today... I ate a Pop Tart... and read some stuff. It was bitchin' ^-^

Top class literature, right there.

Dexterous... it's Fairy Fridge Friday in 5 minutes.
Will you be conquering that hill in the name of cake?!

Ps. I told you already but I love and like you very much, you can tell me anything. Pinky promise. *forehead flick* *arm punch* *double finger salute* :)

Dex said...

I love that. You were clearly already the best kind of person before I met you :)

Someone else from the office brought in cake from the fridge today - biscoff blondies and mars bar brownies :)

You know I love and like you a ridiculous amount as well! I'll hopefully be spending a lot of time with Kerry this weekend. Also, my parents are going on holiday for 6 weeks on Saturday!

Louise Boyd said...

I don't even like Mars Bars are they sound amazing >_<
But I think you could put just about anything on top a brownie and I'd be fucking delighted.
Like Turtle Brownies.

https://carlsbadcravings.com/poke-turtle-brownies-recipe/

I mean... I'm drooling *-*

Dex said...

Those brownies look amazing! So much caramel :)

One of these Fridays while my parents are away, I'm going to take the day off work, go to the cake fridge, and just spend the whole day eating baked goods, drinking tea and watching tv :)

Louise Boyd said...

Yeah... I think you might need supervised on that day.
Lest you fall into a sugar coma x_x
OR WORSE, eat so much baking you end up hating it. That'd be tragic =/

Dex said...

I can tell you one thing about Kerry that makes her very different from you and I - she doesn't like tray bake! Or cakes or desserts in general!

Do you remember you bought me that Addams Family Values t-shirt - 'Camp Chippewa For Privileged Young Adults'. I've been secretly wearing it to help me deal with being 36 :)

Louise Boyd said...

Invoking the pyromania spirit of Wednesday Addams to ward off ageing insecurities?
Tremendous plan.
Just don't actually set anything on fire, that's just crazy, UNLESS it's a S'more. That I highly approve of.

Dex... I know you like this girl, but I think you might have to do an E.T. check on her *-*
And on that note: Sarah made cinnamon rolls :D

Dex said...

I would love some homemade cinnamon rolls! How many have you had so far?! Also, I've never had a S'more...

Can I tell you something very personal and embarrassing?! I'm starting to get really worried about the physical side of being in a relationship. Kerry's being very nice but my confidence is completely shot and I just feel so depressed about it. I can't believe how I've already managed to screw things up!

Louise Boyd said...

If I could teleport a cinnamon roll to you right this second, I would, you deserve it, especially for your anxieties :(
Unfortunately, there's nothing I can really say that'll erase them, other than trust that Kerry will go at whatever pace you need, and that she likes you! She wouldn't have started dating you if this was a big issue for her, and she's probably nervous, too.
The physical stuff is always scary at the beginning, for just about everyone, for each and every new relationship, so if you're really worried, just tell her. She'll get it and hopefully put some of your fears to rest.
Because you haven't screwed it up, stupid!
These are all perfectly normal, valid feelings you're having, and the more comfortable you get with each other, the more natural it'll feel.
But I do 1000% get it, feel as awkward as you need to, just don't let it stop you :)

Dex said...

Thank you, Lilliputty :) Sorry, I didn't mean to involve you in my anxieties. I should probably stop worrying too much but it's difficult to break the habit...

Also, what exactly is a cinnamon roll? In my head, I'm picturing cinnamon swirls but I'm sure that's not right!

Ugh, someone bumped the car today while it was parked. Luckily it's someone who works in the same building, and the damage is very minimal, but it would have to happen just after my parents went away. I don't know anything about these things!

Louise Boyd said...

THESE are cinnamon rolls:

https://thewoksoflife.com/fluffy-cinnamon-rolls/

Fluffy, sweet, a little sharp from the frosting, and oh so cinnamon-y.
Fucking delicious, in other words. We've finished the pan and Sar's gonna make more :D
And I think they are kinda like cinnamon swirls but they're a dough, not a pastry, but the same idea, plus frosting!
I've got my fingers crossed that one day a batch will appear in the Cake Fridge, so you can experience what my mouth just experienced *-*

My only experience of car damage that's happened to the siblings in the parental's cars are them freaking out, swearing me to secrecy, and feign igorance when the rentals discover it x_x
I think you're supposed to go to a garage, though?
I don't know >_<
Buff it with a walnut and see what happens! (It works on tables!)

Ps. You can always involve me, you idiot. It's part of the bff duties. And it's not gonna be a habit you'll probably ever break, anxieties are like bug bites every summer, they're foretold, but you will manage them, like you do everything else. You're super brave, even though I know you don't feel it most of the time :)

Dex said...

Feigning ignorance about the damage when my parents notice it is definitely my natural instinct :) At least the person who hit my car works in our legal department, so they should know the score :)

Cinnamon rolls in the cake fridge would be one of the best days ever :) I doubt they would be as good as Sarah's though.

I need my bff in my life so much :) Kerry is dog sitting for her sister for the next few days so I won't be able to spend much time with her outside of work but I managed to get some of my confidence back tonight! Thank you for being you!

Louise Boyd said...

*bows*
At your service, dear Fungus ^-^

Also, dog-sitting sounds so much fun!
The last time I had any true interaction with a dog was my parents' sweet as pie Border Collie/Spaniel mix, Cariad, who went to live with my grandma when I was born.
Three hellspawn and a needy canine that used to herd her around the house like she was a sheep was a bit much for the mater =/
She was the softest dog, though, in nature and texture. She had curly, floppy ears from her Spaniel side, and they felt like velvet >_<
If I wasn't such a lazy twat, I'd totally have a dog. And a cat. And possibly a chinchilla!
What kind of pup is Kerry looking after?
I'll be jealous no matter what breed 0_0

The pater's been foraging for brambles on his daily walks lately, so tonight... it's blackberry and apple crumble night.
I'm very excited, crumble is the shit >_<

Dex said...

I do vaguely remember you telling me about Cariad, mainly because I remember thinking that it was such a lovely name :) You do have Charlie. I'm not sure how he would feel about having another animal around your house (his kingdom). He maybe feels all you affection should be directed at him :) And I can't see him giving up his sunbathing spaces!

Kerry did tell me what kind of dog it was... I'm sure it was a mix... Maybe part Collie... Ugh, I'm the worst. I have seen it once and it did have floppy ears :) It's her sister's dog so she is staying there to look after it as the dog might mess up her place :)

Foraging for brambles to make blackberry and apply crumble... Your family really are the best :)

Louise Boyd said...

Collie's are the best. A bit mental when they get overstimulated but generally such good dogs.
You should totally sneak in a dog walk with Kerry and the pupper!

You're 100% right about Charles. I think he'd finally reveal his demon self by unhinging his jaw and eating any dog we adopted =/

Louise Boyd said...

Dex said...

It does sound like the dog Kerry is looking after. Very friendly but very excitable, especially about food :)

Just so you know, my parents arrived safely in Philippines. I haven't actually spoken to them since Monday but they've messaged. They are not back until some time in October. They had spent a couple of days en route in Aberdeen with Freya. She's just started school :)

Louise Boyd said...

And on a scale of 1 to 1000, how jealous are you that they saw the fairy queen and you didn't? <_<
Also:

DOES SHE HAVE AN AWESOME BACKPACK?!

Having a cool schoolbag was very important when I was at school 0_0

Dex said...

I bet you had a very cool schoolbag :)

Yes, I am very jealous! I don't know about Freya's schoolbag but I do know that she cycles to school because if she walks, she stops every 30 seconds to look at flowers and small animals and anything else that she finds interesting, which is most things :)

Louise Boyd said...

>_<

I wanna be Freya when I grow up.

Dex said...

I think Freya would love to be around you. You would know exactly what kinds of things she would like :)

All I remember about my schoolbag is carrying it around in the laziest manner possible, practically dragging it along the ground. I bet you had a ton of interesting stationery too. And a first class pencil case :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, don't get me started on pencil cases!
I don't remember much about primary school stationary, but in high school, everything had to be clear and glittery, so you could see allll the pencil shavings and crap living at the bottom of your pencil case.
Real classy.

Did you have a special lunchbox in primary school?
Mine was industrial blue with the Looney Tunes on the front. Taz was my favourite ^-^
And did you have special binders for each class in high school? We did.
Going to WHSmith to buy new binders was the highlight of back to school shopping, but it's also the reason I most teenagers walk at a slant =/
No one should have to carry that much >_<

Ps. I think it'd be Freya showing me awesome new things :) She's way cooler than me. Than anyone!

Pps. I've got visions of tiny Dexterous dragging his rucksack everywhere and it's infuriatingly adorable >_<

Dex said...

I'm sure you dumped the pencil shavings out of your pencil case occasionally :)

I wish I had a Looney Tunes lunchbox! I also had a blue lunchbox but I think it was for some random sports team that I'm sure I didn't care about in the slightest :) I remember always having this fear that the top of the juice flask hadn't been firmly put on and my lunch had been flooded. It did happen sometimes :)

This is terrible but I can't actually remember what I carried around in my schoolbag, only that I'm sure it was too much :) I'm pretty sure I never did anything exciting like shop for my own binders! The only thing I was excited about when starting high school was filling in my class timetable :) And then I fucked up on my first day by going up all the stairs to the art department (which was on the top floor) and not realising it was break time so having to go all the way back down.

I doubt I was an adorable child but thank you :)

Louise Boyd said...

I love the smell of pencil shavings.
Is that weird?
I'd happily sniff a pencil case.
Yeah, that's definitely weird *-*

Juice flask anxiety is the worst! >_<
Why give kids that much responsibility? It's not like we'll know what to do when it leaks!
And worst of all, what if it contaminates whatever precious biscuit was packed that day!
Juice flavoured Penguins are not a vibe <_<

Why is the art department always on the top floor?
Is it because they have to hide away the pencil shaving sniffers like me? o_O
It is, isn't it.
Those bastards!

Dex said...

Pencil shavings! You are so wonderful and weird :) But I can't really comment - I used to enjoy peeling dried up glue off my fingers :)

I was never given Penguins for my lunchbox! Penguins were one of those chocolate biscuits that I had to get from other people's houses as my parents never bought them! Penguins, Caramel Wafers and Wagon Wheels. That really was the main reason for visiting :)

I think I dropped art just so I wouldn't have to go up all those stairs :) I sharpened a pencil for the first time in ages the other day!

Louise Boyd said...

I don't even know where my pencil sharpener is =/
So weird, the crap you do every day for just under two decades and then it all stops.
No more endless highlighting, no more maths equations you'll never understand (at I wouldn't, maths was the worst!), and no more learning crap you didn't want to learn in the first place.
...
School is weird <_<

Dexterous, buddy, dearest, what biscuits were you given?
Tell me there was at least the rare KitKat or Jaffa Cake thrown in there every now and then?
Is your Captain Candyclawsness a reaction to childhood biscuit deprivation?! o_O

Ps. Peeling glue off your fingers is so fucking good, it even beats out colouring your nails in with highlighters.

Dex said...

Maths was one of my better subject even though I never understood what I was using it for :) I really sucked at more creative subjects. My imagination was very limited :)

I definitely went through a period of mini Jaffa Cakes, the little snack pack tubs. But I really did have a biscuit deprived childhood, except for Rich Tea and Bourbon biscuits. We didn't even have Digestives, except occasionally to dark chocolate!

I still have a set of highlighters at my desk so I could try colouring my nails - never did it as a child :)

Louise Boyd said...

You were probably too busy being covered in glue! But so was I when I wasn't highlighting available body parts.
Why is it so satisfying to peel it off? The dream was always to get a full hand *-*

See, this is why it's so stupid that we didn't grow up together. You could have helped my can't understand maths past a standard grade level brain and I could've shown you how to cross hatch, all while trading biscuits of a different flavour.
The perfect duo!
Stupid body of water in the way >_<

I'D FORGOTTEN ABOUT MINI JAFFAS! I'd trade you them for Bourbons, though. I love a good Jaffa Cake but Bourbons are next level biscuits ^-^
I'm gonna have to send you biscuits to make up for your deprived childhood. Dark Chocolate Digestives are the worst ones >_<

Dex said...

I don't know why the glue was so satisfying but it was! I don't think I've experienced it since dropping art after 2nd year! I bet Emily still gets glue on her hands which all her crafty projects :)

I really wasn't that good at maths, just that it was one of my better subjects. I really wasn't very good at anything! Maybe accounting. Quite satisfying to get a balance sheet right :)

Cross hatch... um, knitting? I know nothing :) What were your favourite subjects?

I did think mini jaffa cakes were so much better than normal sized jaffa cakes. Maybe it was the little tubs :) I wish we did grow up together too. I could have come over to your house to have better biscuits :)

Louise Boyd said...

Quite satisfying to get a balance sheet right :)

The nerdiest thing any human has ever said.
Ever.
You and my mum would get along great, she loves spreadsheets :)

Cross hatching, my dear, is a style of drawing where you overlap lines to create tone.
Like this:

///// overlayed with \\\\\\\\\ equals ||||||||||.

Or look at this:

https://youtu.be/QRfTjwuDww4?t=56

This is the technique I instinctively use, but not to this degree of mastery 0_0

ICED GEMS!
Did you ever have Iced Gems?

Dex said...

Every time you mention your mum, she just gets a little more awesome in my mind :)

I used to love Iced Gems - those were the ones with the polar bear on the front, right? I haven't seen them in ages. I wonder if you can still get them?!

I would definitely love for you to tell me more about your drawing techniques!

Louise Boyd said...

You can totally still get Iced Gems. The siblings covered an entire cake in them for my birthday a couple of years back.
And they are still kind of tasteless, oddly textured and fucking immense >_<
I always hated the chocolate ones, though =/
I hate when chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate. What's the point in thattttt?

I will not be telling you more about my drawing techniques because you'll stop being friends with me due to it being so incredibly boring -_-
Just imagine a sleepy, curmudgeonly goblin endlessly scribbling until a "thing" appears on the page.
That's my technique.
And accidentally spilling tea on it.
That is also my technique ^-^

I'd be more interested to finally know how to do long division and be less confused by Excel.
I don't know what the line between being terrible at numbers and having dyscalculia is, but I swear, numbers are the devil! >_<

Dex said...

Iced Gems were multi coloured, weren't they? I don't remember the chocolate ones! Something I bought the other day that I quite liked was Kinder Cards. The usual thing (chocolate, wafer, hazelnuts) but shaped like a card. To be honest, it could probably be any shape and I would still want them :)

Okay, I won't make you tell me about your drawing techniques, but please know that if you ever do feel like telling me, I promise I won't be bored :)

I wouldn't worry so much about numbers. You're amazing at words and that is a much better thing to know about :)

Louise Boyd said...

I was wondering if Kinder Cards were any good! Are they really thin or just kinda thin? Like the width of Cadbury Little Bars? Or thicker? I don't know why this matters but it feels necessary that I know <_<

Dex said...

Cadbury Little Bars? Are they similar to Cadbury Animal Bars? If so, I would say that Kinder Cards are about the same width. Maybe double an After Eight. I like that we take our chocolate so seriously :)

Louise Boyd said...

I was gonna say Animal Bars but I didn't know if you'd remember them! But that was stupid because y'know, it's you, and we do indeed take our chocolate very seriously.
And now I want After Eights. Or better, After Eights ice cream 0_0
Mint ice cream's the besttttt. Has to be artificially green, though. White mint's just wrong <_<
...
WHY DID I NOT KNOW BUENO ICE CREAM CONES EXISTED?! *-*

Dex said...

I used to love Animal Bars. It was maybe my favourite form of dairy milk chocolate :) And the mint ice cream also has to have chocolate chips :)

I wonder if the Bueno ice cream will still incorporate the hazelnut somehow. You'd think it would have to and it is kind of a deal breaker :)

Louise Boyd said...

YES TO CHIPS!
I do find it weird in an ice cream cone, though =/
I don't know why, it just makes more sense in a little tub with a tiny spoon.
Agree? Disagree?

As far as I can tell the Bueno Cone has a chocolate plate like thing on top that seems to be studded with hazelnut.
I hope it's like the weird chocolate tongue inside a Feast *-*

Dex said...

One of us will have to do a taste test on the Bueno Cone :) I'd almost completely forgotten about the weird chocolate tongues inside Feasts! Even though they were nice, there was definitely something very odd about them :)

Yes, chocolate chips are more suited to tubs of ice cream :) What other solids do you like in your ice cream?

Louise Boyd said...

Anything, really. Just as long as there's something to chew on.
Dairy-based things are so much better when there's stuff in them:

Yoghurt
Milkshakes
...
Custard?
I ran out of things =/ But my point still stands!
It's how I feel about soup. Good soup to me is essentially stew.
I'm always hungry when we talk 0_0

Dex said...

I know you will think this is awful but we were always more of a cream family rather than a custard family!

Do you or your family make a lot of soups/stews? I really wish I was the kind of person who could make a big pot of something on a Sunday and eat it throughout the week :)

Louise Boyd said...

The Boyd's are monsters, we're a custard and cream family :O
Sometimes together.
Basically if it's dairy, we'll eat it.
I've seen members of my family put cream on ice cream *-*
Geniuses.
Why do I always starting craving ice cream when Summer's over?

It's officially stew season. I think we're having one at the weekend, and if I'm especially pathetic, Em'll make dumplings to go with it.
I can be very pathetic when it comes to food :)

Dex said...

Delightful monsters! If you put cream on ice cream, it forms a sort of shell :) Did you ever have Angel Delight? I would love a custard tart right now. I'm so glad that Tesco have started selling them again.

You should be so glad I don't live near you. I would be turning up at your house all the time looking hungry and pathetic. I hope Emily makes dumplings for you :)

Louise Boyd said...

She made the dumplings! >_<
it's like she knew I was talking about them and answered my hunger demands, that glorious woman.
I'm gonna float one on top of soup tomorrow and see what happens. Float or not float?

You should be so glad I don't live near you. I would be turning up at your house all the time looking hungry and pathetic.

Well, all I can say is, this method worked for Charlie, so you'd have a high chance of becoming a part of the family ^-^

I. Freaking. LOVE. Angel Delight.
Nothing in the world tastes like that weird pudding, and I wouldn't want it to. Don't fuck with perfection.
Favourite flavour?

Ps. Is it Cake Fridge day?

Dex said...

Emily really is the best! Of course, I've thought that ever since she made No-Face :) Did the dumpling float?!

No wonder Charlie stayed! I do imagine living with your family would be like walking into a Ghibli film. I know you'll tell me it's really not but don't shatter my illusions :)

I really should buy some Angel Delight when I'm next in Tesco. I would probably go for strawberry but, as usual, it was one of those things I used to have to go over to friends' houses to experience! Such a deprived childhood :) What flavour would you pick?

Friday is cake fridge day but I've bought so much recently!

Dex said...

Cinema date tonight - See How They Run. Kerry's a big fan of Agatha Christie so she'll hopefully like it.

Louise Boyd said...

Not the biggest fan of Agatha Christie, myself, but I love Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell, so I'd watch it for them alone.
Report back and tell me if it's any good.
So jealous you have a local cinema.

Ps. Chocolate Angel Delight. Always chocolate Angel Delight.

Dex said...

When is the last time you had Angel Delight? I feel like we should both have some soon :)

The film was okay. A good cast but the mystery wasn't great and the murderer reveal a disappointment. Also, I can't quite explain but it all felt a bit smug. And when you're doing a film that makes fun of mystery plots, but can't come up with a decent one yourself, you don't have that much to be smug about. Sorry, that makes it sound like I hated the film - I didn't, it was just very average. I would make a terrible film reviewer :)

I'm really into my Campion detective novels at the moment. Currently reading my 8th one :)

Louise Boyd said...

I've been sending you fantasy all these years when I should've been sending you detective novels!
You're so fucking retro, I love it ^-^
And a bitchily honest reviewer, my favourite kind.
I hate when movies are too self-aware. I mean, a pastiche is one thing, but you're right, you've gotta have the story to back it up, even when you're gently taking the piss =/
Shame.
Here's hoping the Knives Out sequel gets it right.

I don't think I've had Angel Delight since I was pre-teen 0_0
It was one of those you will only get this for very special occasions and even then it'll be really rare kinda desserts. I think the mater, quite rightly, thought it was full of crap.
Such delicious crap >_<

Dex said...

I think that's the last time I had Angel Delight as well. Maybe it is one of those things best left in the past :)

I'm sorry that I'm becoming such an old man with my book reading. It is one of the few things I can talk about with my dad since he loves those novels too. We are such a weird little family :)

I think you're an excellent reviewer of things :)

Louise Boyd said...

Why thank you, Fungus :)
I think the best reviews are the ones that are honest, not overly obsessed with detail, and focus on how the thing in question made them feel.
I'll take emotional word vomit over deep analysis, which is lucky because I'm all emotional word vomit :D

Don't you ever apologise for liking things!
Like what you like and fuck everyone else!
'Tis the motto I live by, and seeing as you're my bestie, I'm forcing it in on you, too.
There might still be some light ribbing, however ^-^
And I totally love detective novels, they just come in Urban Fantasy form.
The heroine of my favourite UF series is a detective, so... right there with you, bud.

Ps. I think that's the last time I had Angel Delight as well. Maybe it is one of those things best left in the past :)

I'm taking this as a challenge, by the way.
At some point in the near future, I'm getting Angel Delight.

Dex said...

I love reading your emotional word vomit :)

What is your favourite Urban Fantasy series? I like to know all about the things you love. You've definitely taught me over the years how to find and enjoy the things I like so thank you :) And it wouldn't feel right if you didn't sometimes make fun of them :)

Even though I said that, I am also still intending to get some Angel Delight :)

Louise Boyd said...

I don't know when I'll get some, so I'm gonna have to live vicariously through you.
And I've never had strawberry flavour, so details are necessary, because in my head is taste like gloopy pink Nesquik?

Kate Daniels, without a shadow of a doubt.
There are contenders for the title, but they'll never beat my snarky girl.
She even has a dog. I feel like all sleuths should have a dog.
Does Campion have a pet?

Dex said...

Campion had a pet jackdaw called Autolycus in at least one story :) There are a lot of Kate Daniels stories! Have you read them all?! Do you have a favourite one?

I'll maybe end up trying all the flavours so I can give you the complete picture :)

Louise Boyd said...

I appreciate your dedication to the bff cause.
Just don't mix all the flavours together, that way leads to puke :)

WHO HAS A PET JACKDAW?!
That's amazing >_<
Did he have a penchant for stealing stuff like his namesake?

I have indeed read every KD story, and sobbed when I finished :)
But the authors are continuing the story with two spinoffs, and continuously tease that it's not over-over with Kate.
...
I live in a permanent state of tentative excitement *-*

Dex said...

You sound like you've had experience with mixing all the flavours :)

Unfortunately, the jackdaw is not a constant companion. It only makes a brief appearance in his flat. But I like the name and the just the fact that he has a jackdaw :) You know quite a lot about Greek mythology, don't you?

I didn't know Ilona Andrews was 2 people! I still think you're amazing for being able to read so many books!

Louise Boyd said...

I know a layman's amount of Greek myths, and the rest I entrust Google to provide me ^-^
I wish I had the patience to actually read more about the Gods and all their fuckery, though.
I tried reading the Metamorphoses and needed two other books to keep track of everything that was going on.
I gave up halfway through 0_0
Old texts are hardcore.

Dex said...

At least you tried. And I'm sure you know more about Greek myths than you think! You have so many things stored in your brain :)

I had to go out tonight for a leaving do. Fortunately, I was back home by 8pm and had some store bought Eton Mess :)

Louise Boyd said...

Did you at least get Kerry for company? Or was this a solo socialising mission?
I don't know who you do it, I'm basically feral now :D

Dex said...

Kerry was there and she was the one who managed to get us out early :) We still haven't told anyone at work about us!

You could ask your family to look for the Tesco brand Eton Mess next time they are at the supermarket. It's actually quite nice for store bought dessert :)

Louise Boyd said...

Hmm, okay, I'm going to need details on how exactly she got you out of a social event gracefully, because I mostly announce sleepiness and exit stage left pursued by heckling.
Is she a witch? *-*

Sar made cinnamon rolls, again and I finally started The Sandman ^-^
...
I'm the uncool one in this friendship, aren't I? x_x

Dex said...

She just apologised for being like an old lady and needing her bed. And I took the hint and offered to give her a lift home :)

Big question. Are cinnamon rolls best to eat once they have just come out of the oven and are still warm? I've never read The Sandman books so won't be able to tell how the tv series compares but I hope you do enjoy it.

I would have said you were the cool, interesting one and I was the boring, uncool one :)

Louise Boyd said...

She's a subtle genius.
I'm using that excuse forevermore.
I mean, it'll probably be true because I'm always sleepy, but still... mega kudos to the Kerry *-*

I think... we should just mutually stew in our belief that the other's far cooler than we think we are (did that even make sense?), and just be "uncool" losers together, yeah?
You can tell me about socialising and its pitfalls, and I'll tell you that cinnamon rolls are fucking amazing at whatever temperature.
I've tested it out, there is no bad CR temp.

Dex said...

She says if it was left to me, I would have just sat there and seethed internally for hours at feeling forced to be around people :)

I'll actually have trouble thinking of you as an uncool loser. Maybe we can say that we aren't cool, we're just different from other people :)

How many cinnamon rolls could you eat at one sitting?

Louise Boyd said...

She's not wrong :)

Hmm, are we talking with or without puking?
Because without? We're talking half a cinnamon roll; my stomach is pathetic.
But with?
I'll eat the entire pan ^-^
I wish I had your sugary constitution >_<

Dex said...

I would eat all the cinnamon rolls on your behalf :)

I meant to ask you about midnight hagette! I'm sorry if you changed this ages ago but I only noticed the other day. And I've been meaning to start your October monthly! Sorry, I'm such a bad friend :S I've been reading your monthly posts in stages so I can enjoy them for longer!

Louise Boyd said...

And so they have the days needed to load properly :D
I've gotta reduce the amount of things I chuck in there each month, I'm like a kid and their toy trunk, just stuffing things inside and sitting on it while barbie arms and lego trees stick out the side 0_0
And you don't need to apologise for not reading my monthlies, I know you've got other things going on, I don't expect you to, it's nice that you do at all ^-^

The name change? I've been teetering on the edge of changing it for a few years now, and a while back I read a novel called Gideon the Ninth, which I totally fell in love with, and one of the characters lovingly, goadingly calls her cohort midnight hagette among other delightful things.
I really liked it :)
It felt like a 'me' thing.
Something I'd really enjoy someone calling me.
But I'm really attached to Lilliputian, so it took me ages finally change it.
I'm not sure it feels right, but... I'm gonna let it sit for a couple weeks. We'll see.
Might even make a banner!

They do still take a while to load :D I don't think you need to reduce the content. I just read it through the month and by the time I've finished, it's nearly time for the next one :) I'll always make time to read your monthlies! Because I like them and I like you!

I'll maybe call you a midnight hagette from time to time :) I hope you won't mind still being called Lilliputty or Maggot too :)

I'm Lilliputty/Maggot first and foremost :)
Lilliputty was an option for the renaming but I kinda like that that's something only you call me.

Question: Is it fucking freezing in Lerwick? Because I'm shivering my ass off but refusing to wear knitwear because I RESENT how cold it is but also rejoicing because it's hot chocolate season.
Complicated <_<

Ps. How's the stuff with Freya and her mum going? Is she okay? Still a glorious monarch?

I like that too :)

Yes, it is fucking freezing up here! With wind and rain. I just come home and put on a dressing down and get under a blanket :) Do you like putting marshmallows in your hot chocolate?

I keep meaning to phone my cousin to see if she's okay. It looks like a divorce is on the cards but she's started a new job so that might take her mind of things. I just worry about Freya. She's always so happy and I don't want her to be sad.

Louise Boyd said...

It's unfortunately inevitable that she'll be sad, because it sucks, really sucks, but she'll have everyone doing their best to make sure she's okay, her Uncle Dex especially, I imagine :)
Do you think you'll see her soon? Or are things still too up in the air?

I just come home and put on a dressing down and get under a blanket :)

God, I'm so glad you're basically an old person, like me.
After dinner, I immediately put something comfy on and go to bed.
Only problem is, because of the Raynaud's, as soon as I get warm, I fall asleep >_<

Ps. I love marshmallows in hot chocolate (only the mini ones, though), but we never have them!
Which is probably wise, I'd just keep plunking them in until the mug was finished :D

I really don't know. I've gotten my hopes up so many times about seeing Freya again but something always happens. They did say they might come up in December for my mum's retirement party.

I wish I had a better bed. Unfortunately, mine is really old. I think the frame actually came up here with my dad when he moved to Shetland 40+ years ago! I'd buy a completely new bed if the thought of moving things out didn't intimidate me. My bedroom really is in the most inaccessible part of the house. When was is it that you redecorated your room? I bet your bed is ridiculously comfortable :)

Mini marshmallows are excellent in a hot chocolate! I do love getting very fancy hot chocolates when I'm out :)

First of all: Happy retirement, to your mum! (how much are you dreading that party, antisocial one?)
Second of all: I'll keep my fingers crossed for a Freya visit, but if it doesn't happen, you could always visit them?
Either way, I'm 1000% sure Freya'd be ecstatic to see you, and you still have to teach her the wonders of Ghibli! :)

My bed is comfortable, but it's not special, just my old single bunk bed (they have a name, but I can't remember it!) cut down to about waist height so you have to lift yourself onto it.
I was very insistent when I did my room rehaul that I wanted a raised bed, because I'm a cat, and sleeping low down to the ground is fucking weird ^-^

You could always just leave everything where it is, dismantle the bed, and get a flatpack to make up in situ?
Although, I don't know what you're like with instructions and manual labour... I'm thinking capable but mildly chaotic? :D

I'm so sorry that I didn't message last night! I was just coming on to write something to you now and realised that I hadn't replied to your last message. I promised that I wouldn't become a bad friend and I've already started!

I do hope that Freya comes up in December, especially if she came up for Christmas :) I would definitely spoil her with Ghibli related gifts :)

Mildly chaotic with instructions and manual labour is about right :D For some reason, I think you might be the opposite and be quite practical when it comes to things like that. Or maybe you ask Emily to help :)

I remember Kerry complaining about a low bed when she was away and I didn't really know what she meant by it feeling different but clearly it is a thing that other people feel :)

Again, I'm sorry for not messaging last night!
