Okay, dearest, I'm probably going to have to repeat this a few times because you're too bloody considerate and nice to compute it, but:

You don't have to message me every day.
I miss days.
We're friends, not cell mates.
I love that you worry about it, but this is what happens at the start of a relationship.
I'm not bothered, so you shouldn't be bothered!
If you're ignoring me in six months and leaving halfhearted messages every couple of weeks, THEN I'll have something to say about it.
But for now, just enjoy being with Kerry :)
Okay?

Oh, and you're not wrong, I'm pretty good with instructions and putting things together, but I lack confidence and have to read the instructions like a feeble-minded child who can't hold sentences in their head, so it takes fucking ages 0_0
But I can do it!
Ikea's basically playtime :D
BUT I'd rather be constructing a paper theatre:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2FNeighbor-Totoro-Wonderful-encounter-THEATER%2Fdp%2FB01LXJ9K8O&psig=AOvVaw1OJ147vhDPzUwuFVfO8iB3&ust=1665449136991000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAwQjRxqFwoTCOivwdO31PoCFQAAAAAdAAAAABBE

They're so freaking cool.

Dex said...

Oh, was it really that obvious that I was with Kerry? :) We are such an old couple though, watching quiz shows in bed on a Sunday morning :) It does matter though, messaging you at least once a day, even if it's just something silly :)

I would love if you made a Ghibli paper theatre and performed it for Freya :)

Louise Boyd said...

It was either Kerry or you'd joined an amateur sleuthing club.
It was 50/50 really ^-^

Look at these Young Frankenstein bloopers:

https://twitter.com/MichaelWarbur17/status/1579509124198731782

Gene Wilder's face just makes me lose it.
I gotta watch this again, soon.

Dex said...

I'm surprised she wants to spend anytime with me on the evening or weekends considering she has to put up with me all day at work :S

Thank you, Lilliputty. I've always thought that Gene Wilder seemed like the nicest man and those bloopers confirm it :)

Parents are back on Thursday. Not sure how I'm going to cope having them around the house again!

Louise Boyd said...

It's called liking someone, you doof.
I swear, it's like being friends with Eeyore *-*
:)

I always get weirdly anxious when the rentals go away.
Like... I'm so used to their chaos, that when they leave, I don't know how to behave 0_0
And by the time I've gotten used to it, they come back!
At least usually with presents, so that softens the return to that special brand of lunacy only parentals inspire :)

Dex said...

Do your parents go away often? What kinds of places do they go? What presents do they bring back? Sorry for all the questions :)

I've been so lazy these last few weeks that the house really could do with some more cleaning! And I have to get up ridiculously early to pick them up. Okay, the more ridiculous thing is how long it takes me to get ready in the morning :)

I am very much like Eeyore :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, they never leave, it's incredibly frustrating. ... That they dare to stay in their own home :)
But when they do it's usually somewhere in England. York, or Stratford. We're big fans of Stratford; the rentals would take us to the Royal Shakespeare Company and I would get really excited about all the colours and stories and stage sets, but I was TERRIFIED being up in the balconies.
You don't think it's all that steep but when you're eight, and there's basically no room between the seats and all you can think is don't fall, don't fall, you will explode if you hit the ground, it's a bit stressful *-*
I'm hoping I'd be a bit more relaxed about it now, but knowing me, I'd try and shut my eyes while I looked for my seat =/

They brings us back weird thing and often, food.
There's a koala head vase thing that I've been meaning to hang up for about five years which was a gift from York.
Right now it's just storing pens and a single Bounty :)
Will your rentals bring you anything back? Where did they go this time?

Yet anything thing we have in common. It takes me about two hours to be presentable =/
I don't know people get ready fast, there's too many things to do!
And I need a fifteen minute interlude so I can read and air dry a bit 0_0

Dex said...

Wait, your parents used to take you to the RSC in Stratford to watch plays! I don't say this very often to anyone but that is so cool! What Shakespeare plays have you seen? Do you have a favourite one? I don't think I've ever watched anything from a balcony before. I think I'm okay with heights but it has been so long. There aren't many opportunities for being up high in Shetland :) Was York the place with the amazing tearoom?

My parents have been in the Philippines for the last 6 weeks but they came back this morning. They did bring me back a t-shirt so nothing as exciting as a koala head vase :) How long has the Bounty been in there? :)

I do love that you incorporate reading into your getting ready routine :)

Louise Boyd said...

I swear, reading is basically my baseline form of existence.
Other people, y'know, breathe deeply. I read until I pass out, which is particularly painful when you get smacked in the face by a particularly large hardback =/
You must do something when you're getting ready, right? Radio? Tv? Music?

OhoHOHOHHohohh a t-shirt. Fucking love holiday t-shirts. What does it have on it?
Does it a dugong on it?
And yes, I did google animals native to the Philippines just so I could ask that question :)
Also, mermaids of the sea are the best. I love their serious faces.

I have seen... As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet (David Tennant was Romeo, but I didn't know that at the time!), A Midsummer Night's Dream, anddddd possibly Twelfth Night but I'm not 100% sure. I was really little when we went, but AMND was my favourite.
I don't remember a hell of a lot about the acting but the stage sets were incredible. Titania's bed was upside down umbrella, bulbs were hanging from the ceiling - as stars in the forest, I guess, and doors descended and ascended through the floor.
I have this very clear image of Puck crouched atop one as it ascended. Cat-like balance, that man had!
This is the best picture I can find of a part of the set:

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/10/6d/d3/106dd3014ad4e5be632fea3dd442aa55.jpg

I must have been seven when we saw this particular production and I've wanted to fall asleep in a room with lightbulbs crowding the ceiling ever since :)
Have you ever been to the theatre?

Ps. The Bounty has been inside the koala for 14 days. It may not last much longer ^-^

Dex said...

No, I don't do anything else while getting ready except make myself a cup of tea :) Do you also listen to music in the shower?

The t-shirt is a slightly retro looking sunset with the word Cebu (the name of the city) along the bottom. I don't know why holiday t-shirts are always so large! I wish it was a dugong :) I knew what they were but had no idea they were native to the Philippines. I do love that you googled that just to ask the question :)

No, I've never I had a proper theatre experience. I've seen local productions a long time ago at the one we have here but they were as bad as you would expect. Certainly no magical lightbulbs and upside down umbrellas! I love that photo. And in the back of my mind, I knew that A Midsummer Night's Dream was your favourite Shakespeare play. You actually sent me a lovely copy for our birthday :)

I hope you've eaten the Bounty :)

Dex said...

Freya was doing her own makeup today and her mum sent us a photo. I think she may have gone a bit too far with some of it :)

Louise Boyd said...

Are we talking rough night out or drag queen extraordinaire?
Either look is more than acceptable in my opinion, and I be she still looked cute as fuck.
There's a photo of me lurking in one of the family albums with my face entirely covered in hot pink lipstick :)
I did it in secret, apparently, and then kind of appeared in my glory :)
You got any truly embarrassing photos from childhood?

Ps. The Bounty has not been eaten, because Sarah made Texas Sheet Cake >_< OMFG.
Pps. Your t shirt sounds fucking awesome. But yeah, dugong...

Dex said...

I haven't had a look through family photos for a long time. To me, they are all embarrassing :) There are a few up around the house - blob baby, for example :)

Maybe the 'exploding bag of flour' look but yes, still cute as fuck. Probably like your lipstick face :)

Kindly describe Texas Sheet Cake!

Louise Boyd said...

*adorns chef's hat*

Ah heh heh hem... A Texas Sheet Cake is a rectangle shaped chocolate cake topped with chocolate frosting and nuts (any kind) spread throughout.
If you leave it overnight, it basically turns into A GIANT MOTHERFUDGING BROWNIE!
...
It's so squidgy, Dex. Squidgyyyyyyyyy *-*

Does she make a very cute clown? I wonder what her clown name would be. Did you know that no two clown can have the same name? I don't know why, but it's a very big deal in the clown community =/

What is a... blob baby? <_<

Dex said...

A blob baby is me, as a baby, looking like a blob :)

She makes a very cute clown :) I didn't know about clown names! I wonder how you could be sure if a clown didn't have the same name as you? Is there some kind of international clown register? :)

I really do love your descriptions of your sisters' baking :) Is Texas Sheet Cake a new thing that Sarah is trying or has she made it before? I always imagine your kitchen to be a constant battle between your family members over oven and fridge space :)

Louise Boyd said...

Blob baby :)
If it helps, I looked like a potato.
We were babies, though, so we were automatically cute, it's the law of babs.

Maybe Clowns get christened but instead of dropping holy water on their foreheads, they get squirted in the face with joke flowers.
I'd really like that to be true ^-^

The Boyd kitchen is kind of the hub of the household, it's the only place we're all together and has a big table.
So... yes, baking and cooking gets done but it's chaotic as fuck 0_0
Which is why I stopped making bread because it's too busy during the day and I'm too tired after dinner (I've taken a nap right after for the last week =/ )! And Sarah bakes at night.
I'd like to think I'd bake more if there was more space in the day but... nah, I'd probably just read :)
Got any goodies from the cake fridge recently?

It's the only way

Dex said...

Please tell me that you find something that says clowns actually do this :)

I'm sure you'll start making bread again one of these days. So do you nap in you bedroom or do you have another favourite napping place in another room in your house?

When you say Sarah bakes at night, do you mean the dead of night, like your peak reading hours? :)

It feels like I haven't been to the cake fridge in ages. I might check their facebook page on Friday morning to see if they have anything special :) I forgot to tell you that I'm on leave this week!

Louise Boyd said...

I can't find any confirmation on whether clowns are christened via joke flowers and I can't google anymore clown things because they're too damn freaky, so I think us, here and now, are gonna make it a fact that clowns are christened and it's hilarious when it happens.
It is written (by me).

If Sarah baked at 2am, I might kill her. Steal her baked goods. And then kill her.
This house is too noisy >_<

What'ya gonna do on leave?
I think you should watch Bee and Puppycat, because it's amazing :)

Dex said...

Yes, I am treating all this clown information as having been confirmed :)

I wish I had all the time to watch every show you have told me to watch over the years! I'm aware I have been a terrible friend for watching shows! The internet does say that Bee and PuppyCat is only 10 episodes though. And fun space adventures on strange planets does sound very much like my kind of thing :)

The problem with annual leave is that Kerry still has to work as we do the same job and can't take any leave at the same time! We'll just have to wait until the Christmas holidays to spend more than a weekend together!

Are you the only creature of the night in your family? Apart from Charlie of course :)

Louise Boyd said...

I think the original YouTube series is ten episodes, but the Netflix series (same creator) is sixteen.
I'm gonna watch the YT one next, because I'm now bereft of PuppyCat.
He's magnificent.
You should totally just binge it. They're twenty minute episodes and so damn addictive, it'll take a Saturday, maybe less.
I recommend watching it with something sugary ^-^
Like a PopTart.
Favourite flavour... ?

Dex said...

Writing this message very quickly as you've maybe seen on the news that the cables that bring the internet to our remote island have been damaged and we may be without it for a few days until they are repaired (we lost internet from midnight until about 4pm today and I hear it could go again).

Not that I had anything particularly interesting to say anyway :) Except that I've not had Pop Tarts anything like as often as I should in my life and that the only flavours I know are strawberry and chocolate. Obviously, chocolate every time :) What other flavours can you get?!

Did you watch PuppyCat with Pop Tarts? :)

Louise Boyd said...

You without internet is so much calmer than my entire family without it 0_0
Although, my mum (who informed me because I don't read the news! I get my information from Twitter) made it sound like the entire island had no power.
I was worried for your pancake needs! *-*
I bet it was some pesky critter chewing through the cables. A spooky, hungry little critter, fucking up Lerwick 'cause it's Halloween month and that's what spooky little critters do.
That's my theory, anyway...

Chocolate Pop Tarts forever, no other flavour is worth my time.
I am very intrigued by the cinnamon roll ones, however. They're probably disgusting but I dunno, I see the C and R words and I just gotta have it :)
Do you eat them hot or cold?

Dex said...

I think I've given you the wrong impression. I go absolutely insane when there's no internet. I think I'd only calmed down because it been back online for several hours :) It was a little bit crazy with no internet and cash/card machines not working. Also, people were unable to phone emergency services so they were just driving around and people had to flag them down if they needed help! We still had electricity so I would have been able to make pancakes :)

I wish it was a spooky critter but it was most likely a fishing boat being careless! It normally is!

I didn't know you could eat Pop Tarts cold! So can you eat them cold from the packet or would you toast them then leave to cool? I wish I had family members who could make me cinnamon rolls :)

Louise Boyd said...

I know technology's awesome and all, and I'd be bereft without out (I would have Dexterous friend!), but we've really fucked ourselves in terms of survivability.
Everything's digital, everything's connected to the internet, landlines at some point soon will be obsolete, and we have no measures in place for when all that fails us.
We're basically a dystopian novel =/

But maybe it was spooky critter on a fishing boat... o_O

WAIT! You've never eaten a cold Pop Tart? Not even out of laziness?!
My mind is completely blown.
Go to Tesco, right this second, and buy a box!
YOU NEED TO EAT A COLD POP TART >_<
And yeah, no toasting, just straight out the packet like an animal.
My preferred method is to eat all around the edges and then monster bites for the rest :)

Dex said...

I just didn't know cold pop tarts were a thing! I mean, I didn't think they would be lethal if they weren't heated up but in my head, a cold pop tart is quite hard and chewy - is that completely wrong?

Or someone pretending to be a spooky critter on a fishing boat. Hopefully a fishing net gets dropped on them and we get a Scooby Doo face reveal!

When I went outside while the internet was down, I was expecting to see something close to the apocalypse but it all looked fairly normal :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh noooooo. I mean, well, okay, yes they are kinda chewy but not in a bad way? And the filling is still gooey and awesome.
Anddddd you avoid second degree burns :)
You just gotta try it.
If you don't like it, we can still be buds, just not Tart buds.

I reckon, if the apocalypse ever hit, your little island would totally come away unscathed. You're so little, there's no way zombies would find a way across.
Unless they're the kind of zombie that can walk along the seabed =/ But I don't like that, so I'm rejecting it as a possibility ^-^

Dex said...

So long as the middle is still gooey, I'm sure we'll be Tart buds :) Have you been eating anything this weekend that will make me jealous?

I remember there was an episode of Mighty Max where he was being pursued by sea zombies! That show was pretty scary for a children's cartoon. I mean, how many shows would have a cyclops living under a Turkish prison?! :)

Louise Boyd said...

Well... Sarah made choc chip oatmeal afternoon cake and a white boule loaf that I haven't tried yet but I have inhaled all the molecules from :)
Oh, and homemade pizza.
How green are you right now?

I had to google Mighty Max 'cause I've never seen it! *-*
A Turkish prison, though?
That's hardcore.
I love 90s cartoons. They're so fucking weird and dark ^-^

Dex said...

Sarah is really on a baking kick at the moment! Or maybe she always is :) I've never had either of those things and I'm still insanely jealous! Would you spread something like jam on a slice of the white boule loaf or would it be sacrilege to put anything on something so perfect?

And you must tell me the pizza topping!

Louise Boyd said...

I think you can put whatever you want on a boule loaf.
It's the perfect receptacle for condiments: jam, marmite, peanut butter, marmalade, Nutella.
You could turn it into pizza toast if you felt like it!
Which I totally do, so that might be happening tomorrow ^-^
...
Or most likely I'll slather it in butter and marmite, with a banana on the side so I can feel pious for eating fruit before I got hunting for cake *-*

How's the island? Back to working order?

Dex said...

I've lived a very sheltered life. What is pizza toast? I didn't remember you were a marmite guy! I'm one of those weird people who are fairly neutral on marmite. We never have it at home but I used to enjoy having it with butter on toast when we went to stay with relatives. They were the kind of relatives who used toast racks at breakfast :)

Everything seems to be working fine. Apart from the internet at home being down from 12am-4pm on Thursday, I wasn't really inconvenienced by it. Kerry was a bit worried about her electricity because she has a token meter and she couldn't buy any tokens. She thought she might have to stay with her sister over the weekend if her electricity ran out but she was able to buy some on Friday.

Louise Boyd said...

See!
We've dystopianed ourselves with technology.
Would've been better off staying in caves 0_0
...
My cave would of course be insulated with books.

Pizza toast is literally cheese on toast but you use tomato paste on the base, add whatever pizza topping you can find, and then put cheese on top.
I use very little because cheese is disgusting but a necessary evil when it comes to pizza.
It's really fucking good.
Even better if you put it in a toastie machine.

Only fancy people have toast racks. The rest of us just make a triangle with two slices :)
I don't even do that, though. Toast must be buttered immediately, and eaten before it goes cold *-*
Thoughts on cold toast, though? Contrary to what I just said, I'm pro.

Dex said...

I sometimes wish I was living in the 90s in pre-internet days :)

I did not realise you felt that strongly about cheese :) I love cheddar in pasta or toasties, and something like wensleydale on a cracker can be quite nice. Also pizza, mozzarella sticks and halloumi fries! Sorry, I probably disgust you right now :)

Normally I would agree about the temperature of toast because I really like hot, buttered toast. But with marmite, I would prefer to be just warm enough to soften but not melt the butter so I could mix the marmite in with it. I'm not really a big fan of stone cold toast but I suppose I wouldn't mind it with jam or marmalade. Unlike you, I'm very much a toast amateur :)

Louise Boyd said...

Such strict marmite rules.
Are you a scraper? Globber? Oh wait, no, I guess you're a... butter swirler?
I highly approve, even if I'm a scraper.
How swirly are we talking, though? 'Cause Sarah essentially makes marmite butter when she's making toast.
It's kind of incredible but I'm too lazy :)
And impatient. I entirely blame my mother for me being a toast connoisseur; she used to make piles of it for us when we were kids. Still does when someone's sad or sick, or just because.
Mum-made toast is the best toast. I don't know why, it just is.

Yes, you do disgust me, you cheese-eating surrender monkey.
Blech!
:)

Dex said...

Your mum really does sound amazing :)

I know I've told you this a million times but my mum used to make us toast every day when we got home from primary school. Nutella was the spread of choice but I haven't had it on toast for so long. Before that it used to be butter but I really went off it for some reason when I was a kid. Not just in toast but in any kind of sandwich. Butter and onions. Soup and sandwiches day in school was hell for me - butter in the sandwiches and onions in the lentil soup :) I'm still not the biggest fan of onions in some things but I do love onion rings! I really have no problem with butter nowadays as my pancake making will attest to :) I've suddenly put myself in the mood for Nutella on toast. Something for the weekend!

I haven't had it in so long but I'd say I was a swirler when it came to marmite and butter so maybe quite similar to Sarah although I'm sure her marmite buttering is far superior. Okay, for you, what would be the perfect slice of toast?

I don't know what kind of food would be my equivalent of your cheese hatred? Maybe egg sandwiches - they really are the worst!

Louise Boyd said...

It must be something about mums and toast. An unwritten rule that they must use hot bread as a means of both feeding and comforting their offspring.
...
What an excellent fucking rule.
And yessssss Nutella on toast is so good, I'd throw it at the wall for being so good if I didn't want to eat it so bad.
I feel guilty about doing it, though, like I'm not allowed to because grown up people don't eat hazelnut spread as a main meal!
But then I remember I can do what I want ^-^

Your yuck is absolutely my yuck! I can't even talk about it, it's so gross.
I don't like being near food I don't like, which I guess is kinda weird but I hyperfocus on it and can't think about anything else 0_0

Fact: I've never had a school lunch. Not once. Not even a drink.
Hot meals at lunchtime make no sense to me =/
Except porridge for some reason, and technically that's a breakfast food, but to me, all breakfast foods are all the time foods.
Cereal for dinner? Yesssssss! Snack time? Where's the granola? Dessert? Krave, I demand Krave.

Ps. Perfect toast is golden brown, somewhere between crunchy and soft, smothered in butter, and then it depends on the bread.
White? Jam, Marmite, peanut butter, just butter, marmalade, Nutella, the possibilities are endless.
Wholemeal? Anything but Marmite.
Brown? Jam or just butter. Everything else is wrong.
Sourdough? Marmite, on its own it just tastes weird.
Fruity, nutty bread? Butter or jam. I love fruity, nutty breads.
I could genuinely keep going.
I fucking love bread *-*

Pps. I almost got bonked on the head by a solid ceramic lamp today 0_0
It came flying down from the loft where my dad was putting in extra insulation and missed me by... 3ft, but whatever, I could've died! :O
And then I accidentally punched the edge of a cupboard. I have a welt and a bruise :)
Today was violent, and I did not choose it!

Dex said...

If we ever spend time together, I will totally let you decide on what we eat!

If that lamp had landed in the wrong place... I don't even want to think about it. You are going to be around forever, telling me about all the things you like! :) Also, how did you accidentally punch a cupboard?! Were you shadow fighting monsters?

I love getting you started on bread! In fact, I love getting you started on anything you can list. Your lists are the best :)

Ugh, I remember when they used to give us milk at break times. Even the thought makes me queasy. I can't believe you never had a school dinner though! If your school dinners were anything like ours, you weren't missing much, except maybe a few of the desserts. So what kinds of food did you take to school in your packed lunches?

Louise Boyd said...

If that lamp had landed in the wrong place... I don't even want to think about it. You are going to be around forever, telling me about all the things you like! :)

Shucks :)
And don't worry, I always assumed it'd be a book related accident that got me.
Or the incessant two-a-day hiccups I've been plagued with since high school.

Why is it always milk?
I know it's got calcium and whatever, but it's so boringgggg. Couldn't they at least throw in a chocolate option? Maybe a little pink?
I would've straight out rejected that milk. Can't drink the stuff. Once it's been bathing cereal for a few minutes, then it's a different story, but straight from the carton/jug/receptacle? *dry heave*
Did you drink it?
Or did you stash it somewhere?
And what kind of desserts were you getting?!
I might have considered it if the desserts were decent, but all I ever saw was a lot of custard =/
I love custard but not when it's yellow >_<

Ps. I was dragging a carpet across the floor to put underneath the ladder my dad used to go up into the loft and almost kill me, but I tugged too hard and my hand reared back and bitchslapped the cupboard.
It was not a banner day for my physical being :)
The bruise disappeared, though. I'm disappointed -_-

Pps. My lunchbox contained a juice carton (usually apple, orange is gross unless freshly squeezed), a sandwich (whatever the mater felt like - likely peanut butter), some from of biscuit (KitKat or Club were the norm), and some form of fruit (I remember a lot of apples).
Y'know, the usual kid food fodder!
It didn't matter anyway, I'd always go home and eat toast anyway :)

Dex said...

Do you mean we'll maybe find you buried under a pile of books? I didn't know about the hiccups!

I think I did sometimes drink the milk but I would never do it nowadays. There were always some left going spare so some of the more monstrous children would have multiple glasses of milk.

The desserts were things like ice cream, cheesecake (which always had a little segment of orange on each slice), mini eclairs, some kind of sponge cake with a caramel topping, things like that. I hardly ever have custard mainly because I associate it with the school custard which was a horrible yellow colour like you said - must be a universal thing! What kinds of things do you like to pour custard over?

Well, I'm glad you weren't too badly injured! No other bruises at the moment?

Louise Boyd said...

It just starting happening in sixth year. Two hiccups minimum a day. Weird as fuck, and still hasn't stopped.
I don't really consider them as true hiccups, though. It's more like a hitch in my chest that comes out as a hiccup? But lacking that total infuriating breathless thing. Make sense?
I dunno, I just always reckoned my lungs were a bit clunky because of the childhood asthma that only flares up when I get tickled.
I warn you now, Dexterous, to NEVER tickle me. I will automatically hold my breath, and I will attack you when my lungs start working again <_<

YOU GOT ALL THAT AT SCHOOL?!
Wtf...
Although the whole orange slice thing just seems weird and very 80s to me. I'd understand if it had an orange sauce... I wouldn't like it but I get it. Just a slice, though? What are you meant to do? Slice it up and eat a tiny bite with each forkful?
That's too much work!

BIG news. There was an explosion in Blair, today. Not that far from my house:

https://news.stv.tv/north/explosion-sends-fireball-into-sky-above-burning-laundrette-in-blairgowrie-perth-and-kinross

I, obviously, heard nothing because I'm me, but this is seriously like five minutes at a brisk pace from my house.
My best friend in high school lived on that street, and I think her mum still does =/
Bonkers. No one got hurt, but still, bonkers.
And it's the second explosion we've had since Covid started 0_0
We're cursed.

Dex said...

That looks like a huge explosion! I'm glad no one was hurt! What was the first explosion?

I think the cheesecake at school was as strawberry cheesecake so the orange segment made even less sense! And I think I've told you before about the weird hot chocolate sauce that they used to pour over the ice cream. I used to quite like it when I didn't know any better but I've never seen anything like it anywhere else!

I promise I would never tickle you, and not just because of the hiccups! I hated being tickled as a kid. My sibling used to pin me down and do it. And then I was the one who got trouble for making too much noise. Life was so unfair :)

Louise Boyd said...

I have no idea what caused it, I'm not sure anyone does yet, but I'm putting my money on faulty wiring. That building's ancient =/

WHY DO THE VICTIMS ALWAYS GET BLAMED?! >_<
And why are older siblings the worst?

Dex said...

Happy Halloween, Lilliputty! Horror films tonight? Any seasonal food or dressing up like a witch?

Although it is the 31st so you'll probably be adding the finishing touches to your monthly!

Louise Boyd said...

I totally failed Halloween.
I did nothing spooky.
And I did indeed have my face firmly planted in my laptop doing last minute Monthly things.
For shame!
Watched Hocus Pocus and wore my skeleton jumper and pumpkin socks, though, and that's all that really matters ^-^

Did you do anything festive?
Devour an obscene amount of sugary things?
Well, more than usual? :)

Dex said...

Hocus Pocus, skeleton jumper and pumpkin socks. Those are definitely the things that matter! Kerry bought a few pairs of earrings for Halloween. Black cats, ghosts and pumpkins. I've seen the black cats and pumpkins. In my head they were going to be massive but turned out to be very small :) They actually looked really nice on her.

Well, we had a few children along the house but I stayed in my bedroom and let my mother deal with them! So we do still have some leftover Quality Street & Celebrations. And I have my usual strawberry pencils. The big thing for me at the moment is Cadbury's chocolate chip brunch bars. I'm eating a ridiculous amount at the moment :)

Louise Boyd said...

Any Halloween addition to an outfit is awesome imo.
Has she drawn any of your unlikely deaths recently?
Perchance a particularly Halloweeny one?

Cadbury's Brunch Bars?
Throw in a bottle of orange Lucozade and you've got my sustained me through uni *-*
Meal of champions!
...
And those allergic to the canteen 0_0
Communal eating is so weird. Let me be a hungry squirrel in private!

Dex said...

She does like drawing things like me being beaten up my Miss Marple :) She also has a whiteboard on the wall next to her at work and whenever I don't understand something (which is quite often), she does a little illustration to help me :)

Did you never have lunch in the uni canteen either? I do totally get the aversion to eating in front of non-family members! I still feel very awkward having lunch at my desk at work. Probably why I often only have sweets :)

Louise Boyd said...

Ugh, you're both so sickeningly sweet.
If I wasn't team Kevid? Kervid? Davry? - why do these all sound like viruses?! - I'd totally be fake retching behind your back :)

The breakfast bars you're obsessed with?
That's my ideal food to eat in front of people.
It's compact, no mess, and I can walk away with it if I get uncomfortable.
Snack food is the best for the shy diner ^-^

Speaking of food obsessions, have you ever had a Cadbury's Christmas Pud?
They're so fucking good and they only happen once a year >_<

Dex said...

You'll be glad to know we are not at all affectionate when we are around people! We probably wouldn't be that way even if we weren't still hiding our relationship from everyone! :)

How have I never had a Cadbury's Christmas Pud?! Kindly describe them to me :) Are they a sort of small chocolate egg with a filling?

I wish we still had our vending machine at work. I would never have needed to go out for lunch or bring it with me :)

Louise Boyd said...

They are indeed like a chocolate egg, but with a truffle centre, hazelnut pieces, and crunchy, puffed rice inside.
They're magic *-* and not that small, either. I hate when chocolate's small. If I want small chocolate, I'll buy Smarties and eat the entire tube in two gulps, thank you kindly!
If you're in Tesco, have a look and see if they're available, and if you don't like them, I'll... well, I'll think you're weird but what's new there :)

Vending machines are so good. If the apocalypse hits, I'm bogarting at least one. I'll die of scurvy instead of the plague but I'll be worth it ^-^
In high school, at the adjoining rec centre where we did PE, there were vending machines at the entrance, and one point they had a chip machine.
You'd think they'd be gross. Soggy and cold.
...
Top 5 chips of all time 0_0
Crunchy, perfectly salty, and hot as fuck.
We abused the machine so much they removed it :)

Ps. I'm one of those weird people that's neither bothered by seeing PDA or participating in PDA.
It's just kissing =/
I did have a boyfriend that hated it, though. I could hold his hand in public and that was it.
We did not last long ^-^

Dex said...

I like when you think I'm weird :) But I would still eat a tube of smarties in two gulps like you :)

I don't really have anything against PDA :) And your previous boyfriend was really missing out if he wouldn't let you do anything more in public than hold his hand! I can't think of anything nicer than you wanting to show affection!

Wait! Chip machines exist?! You just put money in and chips came out?! That seems insane to me! Blair must have been 50 years ahead of Shetland in terms of technology! Did they come out like they would in a fast food restaurant? Or did you have to catch them in something? I can barely picture this in my head!

Louise Boyd said...

I found a video!
It's not the exact machine, but it's the same principle:

https://youtu.be/MybNmu_EE5I

And I forgot you had to wait a bit, which is probably why we made the Rec Centre staff a bit mental with hordes of us lurking for food, but it was totally worth it.
I've got this vivid memory of getting a tub after last class swimming and going straight home, which is a five minute walk away.
I was smug as fuck :)
I haven't seen one since, though. It's probably a little to Blade Runner for this podunk country.

I take being called weird as a compliment, too :)
And it's lucky, because to quote Fairuza Balk: We are the weirdoes, mister.

How do you feel about bugs? A fucking gigantic woodlouse hitched a ride on my arm today when I was taking photos and I wasn't unhappy about it.

Ps. Affection from me just involves a lot of leaning. I use people as body support because I have no strenghtttttt >_< Like a baby. It's ridiculous :)

Dex said...

I never knew machines like that existed! And if they did, as in the video, I would assume they were only in Japan! People in Blair must have been very confused when they moved away and discovered that other places didn't have them!

I'm okay with bugs :) Spiders not so much. Moths and daddy long legs definitely not! Freya loves bugs! She can't help stopping on the way to school if she sees one :)

Clearly a major reason for being with someone is so that you can sprawl all over them :)

Louise Boyd said...

Are you a sprawler, Dexterous? Or are you the sprawled?
Either's a pretty stellar state of being. Until the dead arms and legs set in *-*

Sometimes I think I need you to stop telling me things about Freya because it's just too much cuteness and softness for one person to take, but then I'm like... nah, who rejects serotonin and adorable fairy creatures?
Idiots! Idiots do! And I may be sporadically ridiculous, but I'm not idiot :)
Does she hold any of the bugs?
I'll hold most things unless they're massive spiders or slimy. A snail is fine, they have a little house, but slugs? Nope! I won't kill them (I murder no bugs, just kindly escort them outside) but no touching, thank you. Boundaries.

I wish you could experience a French fry machine. I wish I could experience one, again! They're truly magnificent.
Maybe one day, when the world's totally gone to shit and we live in a cluttered, cyberpunk society, we'll have automated chips for every meal, and then hit the button embedded in our arm to alert the nanobots that our internal organs need a little spring cleaning :)

Louise Boyd said...

*an idiot

FFS totally undermined my non-idiotness x_x

Dex said...

I definitely like wrapping myself around Kerry while we are sleeping :)

Freya loves holding bugs. She's always falling off her bike on the way to school so she can stop and pick one up :) I don't think I can ever stop telling you things about Freya. You would be probably be her favourite person!

We'll make a pact to let the other one know if we ever find a French fry vending machine! Also, do you know what I bought today - Cadbury's Christmas Puds :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh Jesus, you're so soppy I'm trying not to heave, being the supportive friend that I am, but oh boy, oh man, oh lord, that was a close call!
...
*is not-so-secretly totally glad you're taking to this boyfriend stuff so well*
:)

Ok, be honest, did you eat the whole pack?
Seasonal food's the best.
I especially like when the rentals bring home an M&S catalogue and I can see all the bonkers things I'll cover this year.

Dex said...

I'm so sorry, I promise I won't go on about my current sleeping arrangements with Kerry! I don't want you projectile vomiting against your laptop screen!

This very rarely happens but I can only manage one of the Puds at a time! And I have to have a cup of tea with with it. I think any more and I'd feel sick. Please note that this is not a criticism at all :)

So does your family do a big M&S order for Christmas?

Louise Boyd said...

My laptop greatly appreciates your consideration :)
I'm guessing everything's going prettttty well for you two, then?

Did I just out sugar Captain Candyclaws?!
The monster of all things sweetened?!
*takes a bow*
I never though I'd see the day, or that I'd be the culprit.
Do I get your pixie stick crown now? *-*

Dex said...

I think you've always secretly been able to out sugar me. It's all that training with your sisters' homebakes :)

I think so. I hope so. She still invites me over to use as a leg rest so I'm guessing that's a good sign! I don't suppose you have any relationship advice for me? I've always relied on your opinion for everything. I'd actually be a bit lost without you :)

Louise Boyd said...

A leg rest? That, to me, is a stellar sign.
Like I said, using another person for bodily support is... a trust thing? And a comfort thing? And a wanting to be close to someone thing?
A trifecta of goodness. I wouldn't worry :)
And, ugh, I'm not sure how helpful I can be other than logical because I was the worst in relationships. Not a monster or anything, just a little... unsure? Like there was a secret code to being with someone and I didn't get the enigma machine to unscramble it 0_0
And I don't talk a lot! Unless provoked or the subject interests me. So, I think I can seem a bit disinterested and cold?
Which I'm not.
I just think I haven't found any of my potential persons yet.
The silences should be comfortable, y'know?
You're really lucky that you and Kerry started as friends, you've got that foundation, the comfort's already there and you can build on it.
If I could offer any advice, it'd probably be not to let your insecurities take over. If someone likes you, they like you. Simple as that :)
And you're damn likeable, so you have nothing to worry about!

Dex said...

Thank you, Lilliputty. You've probably realised that I'm a very insecure person but you have always made me feel liked :) All I want to do sometimes is to hear you talk about your favourite subjects even if I don't know much about them. And I like to think that our silences would be comfortable :)

I know I keep saying this and it always falls through but Freya might be coming up for Christmas. My mum is having a retirement party the week before so Freya and her mum are supposed to be coming up for that and staying here through the holidays.

Louise Boyd said...

I am tentatively keeping one pair of fingers crossed (two pairs or more is bad luck, I have no idea why) for the faerie queen to grace your little island.
And if she crosses the sea with a new puffin, you gotta tell me. And if it has a name.
I named all my soft toys and I was the soft toy queen. Every night I'd kiss them all goodnight. It took a while =/
How old is Freya now? I can't gauge the age of children by their size alone. Little blob creatures :)

Always here to reassure, m'dear. But I think you're doing pretty well on your own :)
And all you'd get from me right now is a lot of gravelly croaking. The father gave the entire family his cold and we are not happy!
My laugh is hilarious right now, though. It's like a more devious Muttley with pop rocks in his throat :)

Dex said...

You have clearly always been the best kind of human being. And thank you for reminding me about Marshmallow the puffin :) Freya must be 5 now since she has just started primary school. She really did brighten up the house when she visited :)

I would love to hear your Muttley laugh :) Are you okay though, apart from the croaky throat? It must be the time of the year when dads get ill! Mine has been coughing constantly for the last 3 days!

Louise Boyd said...

Was she nervous about starting school or super excited?
I was terrified. Cried bloody murder each morning and wouldn't stop until I got inside the school. The Mater tells me it broke her heart to leave me =/
It's such a weird thing, though, dumping your kid off with strangers for 6-8 hours and force-feeding them knowledge.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pro education, I'm thankful for whatever learning lurks in my brain, but Jesus, 5's so little 0_0
I bet Freya was a total badass about it.

Hmm, it must be a paternal thing, the dad's are out to get us.
...
But more likely everyone stopped wearing masks and we started infecting each other again :)
I'm not enjoying it.
The throat situation has moved beyond gravel and entered dry, straight blade territory, with the added bonus of losing my voice.
That always happens, though. My childhood doctor knew me as the throat girl because I was constantly getting throat infections 0_0
Nothing changes.
But now I no longer sound like Muttley. Think of a strangled, 20-a-day goose and you've got my vocal chords right now :)

Ps. I'D FORGOTTEN SHE NAMED THE PUFFIN, MARSHMALLOW >_< SO FUCKING CUTE!

Dex said...

I was actually okay on my first day of primary school. I have this very vivid memory of seeing another child crying and being very glad that it wasn't me :)

I shouldn't have joked about my dad being ill. We had the ambulance here tonight as he was struggling to breathe. Apparently the combination of Parkinson's plus cough is not a good one. I feel guilty because I was out when it happened and my mother said it was all very scary! He hasn't had to go to hospital at least.

Louise Boyd said...

Shit, I didn't even know that about your dad. Is he alright now?
Try not to feel guilty for not being there, we all miss significant things sometimes, you can't be there for everyone at all times. The fact that you feel shitty about it means you're not a shitty person, and you're there now. All that matters :)

Dex said...

Yes, he's okay now, thank you :) I'm just glad my mum was home when it happened. I hate to think what would have happened if you had been on his own :S

Did I tell you it was Kerry's birthday this week. I've bought her one of those wearable blankets with sleeves, a wine tumbler and an atlas puzzle book. Because she likes keeping warm, drinking wine and doing puzzles :)

Louise Boyd said...

I'm real glad :)
I worry about that stuff, too, with my grandmothers.
Loving people is so stressful >_< But, y'know, pretty good :)

...she likes keeping warm, drinking wine and doing puzzles :)

Well, that's fucking adorable.
And dorky, wonderfully dorky.
Is she good at geography? Does she know where things are?! <- that sounded patronising as shit but it's not, it's pure jealousy because I know not where anything is 0_0

Have you ever gargled aspirin?
It tastes like a swimming pool =/
Yuck...

Dex said...

I worry about you too :) Nothing in particular, I just don't know how I'd cope if you suddenly disappeared! But I try not to think about things like that too often! How are your grandmothers these days? Will you be spending Christmas with them? And how is your mum? The approach to Christmas can sometimes be a little bit tough.

She is good at geography but she always likes to get better :) She's just good at knowing things in general! And she loves quiz shows and puzzles :)

Why were you gargling aspirin?! Have I been taking aspirin wrong all these years?!

Louise Boyd said...

I was just thinking we need like a Bat Signal or a telegram, skywriting situation just in case one of us goes rogue!

Why were you gargling aspirin?! Have I been taking aspirin wrong all these years?!

I love how upset this made you :D
You're not doing it wrong, but for sore throats, gargling effervescent aspirin is bloody miraculous. I went from steak knives cutting up my larynx to mere butter knives overnight.
Disgusting, though. And I kept hyper focusing on how I was gargling.
...
HOW AM I DOING IT?!
It's not like wiggling my fingers, I can feel myself doing that, but gargling? That's just spooky 0_0

I can't believe you said the C word.
How could you?
It's not that time of year until I'm fully done with Halloween and that will NEVER HAPPEN.
...
I'm not readdddddddy *-*

Dex said...

I'm so sorry. The C word won't be mentioned again until at least 20 December! Anyway, I've got my mum's retirement party to worry about before that!

I wasn't really upset, just very, very curious :D I will definitely try to remember that trick if I ever have a sore throat! I'm very glad it brought the pain down to butter knife level, although it still sounds painful :S I really hope that it is starting to go back to normal.

So long as I can still press down on a keyboard, I'll never leave you alone :)

Louise Boyd said...

So long as I can still press down on a keyboard, I'll never leave you alone :)

Taken out of context, that's terrifying :D

Y'know what's ridiculous? I've laughed so much this week, more than I've laughed in ages and it's all due to the ridiculous noises everyone's making, but mostly mine.
I lost my voice so I've been a hoarse goose for most of the time, and every time I try to talk, someone laughs, and then I laugh, and then I register my laugh and how ridiculous it sounds, and then I laugh so more, making everyone else laugh!
It's been a very jovial time in the Boyd residence, even though we all feel awful :)
Ridiculous.

This retirement party... is it in the Eva household? Or are you being forced out into society?

Dex said...

I really should read back my messages before sending them to make sure they don't sound creepy! Hopefully you knew what I meant :)

You and your family really are my favourites. I can picture the laughing scene all too clearly :D Has all your family caught the cold, or is someone going around smugly in the full flush of health? :)

I will be forced out into society but in some ways that's better - I don't want a bunch of people in our house :) I haven't really asked about the details(!) but I know they've booked a hall and there will be food at least! I'm just hoping Freya will be there to keep me entertained :)

Louise Boyd said...

Freya would make even the most boring of events a blast. Plussssssss, she won't ask you those soul-robbing questions the old people like so much 0_0

I have a voice again! It's a little croaky and deeper than usual but I can annoy people again!
I cannot, however, taste anything :(

Ps. I knew what you meant, I just like fucking with you ^-^

Dex said...

Being made to feel slightly awkward by the people I like the most is one of my favourite things :)

I'm glad you can annoy people again :D But hopefully your sisters don't decide to punish you by baking all your favourite things while you can't taste them!

Hopefully Freya will just want us both to hide under a table until it's all over :)

Louise Boyd said...

You're so lucky to have a Freya.
I have not a single cousin, which normally I'm not fussed about but then you talk about hiding under tables with a fairy queen and I get jealousssss >_<
You'll have piles of cake under there with you, won't you?!
Curses.

Dex said...

Obviously you would be welcome to join us under the table and we would take turns to do a cake run :)

Apart from Freya and her mum, the only other cousin in this country I'm aware of is the son of my dad's sister. We only really used to see them when they came to our granny's house in West Kirby for Christmas. They lived quite close to her in the next town (some place called Hoylake - the only thing I know about it is that they hosted some big golf championship a few years ago). I think he lives in Brighton now and has a wife and kid. Not sure why I'm giving you these details :) I have so many cousins in Philippines and I barely know any of them!

Has your taste returned yet?

Louise Boyd said...

Taste has not yet fully returned but everything is either super sweet or salty. It's odd. Butter leaves the weirdest taste in my mouth >_<
Has this stopped me from eating toast every day? No, and it never will.
The weirdest thing so far has been eating a Bounty. I love Bountys, they're in my Top 10 chocolate bars. It tasted of air, Dex. AIR.
Devastating 0_0
I'm just glad this didn't happen at Christmas. I spent one 25th with a cold that robbed me of my tastebuds and it was truly devastating. I swore it'd never happen again! >_<

How many cousins are we talking? Double digits?
I can't even imagine.
The only experience I've had of that are the kids of the people I called Aunts and Uncles but weren't blood related.
My godfather was my favourite. He's also a Boyd, weirdly enough. I haven't seen him in years, he has a neurological degenerative disease (to my shame, I can't remember which one), so travelling's a no go, and that sucks 'cause he's the nicest guy in the world.
You'd never think he was a criminal psychologist :) My dad asked him once about the kinda stuff he has to listen to and he just responded with a wry sort of kindness: "You'd never sleep, George, better not."
I'd never ask x_x

Ps. I'd be honoured to be a floor troll with you and Freya. Why do I feel like she'd be the best at sneaking food?

Dex said...

I'm not surprised that your parents know the most interesting people! Your godfather sounds like the best kind of person. And I love that response :) I'd never ask either! Do your parents still keep in touch with him?

Oh, definitely double digits of cousins! My mum has a lot of brothers and sisters, and they all seem to have lots of children! But I really didn't spend much time with them when I was on holiday. I was never very good at making friends!

When was the Christmas with the cold?! I don't think I know anyone who loves Bountys as much as you. Or toast for that matter :) I'm glad you're still eating them though, despite weird butter and Bountys made of air! :) So, in a box of Celebrations, what would be your last pick of the chocolate?

The only news here is that it's been very windy these last few days so no boats. This means the supermarkets have almost no food! The wind better not stop Freya coming up here and sneaking food :)

Louise Boyd said...

Now, Dexterous, my dearest of dears, by no food... do you mean simply food you don't like? :)
And you're right, the wind gods better chill the fuck out. Selfishly, I need Freya stories.

DID YOU KNOW THEY'VE REMOVED BOUNTY FROM CELEBRATIONS?!
As you may be able to tell from the caps locks, I'm a bit upset about this 0_0
First they ruin the Malteser truffle, now they take the coconut treats and leave Mars Bars in their stead.
...
I DON'T UNDERSTAND MARS BARS! THEY ALWAYS TASTE OLD >_<
^ That's my last pick, by the way :)
First choice is always a Snickers. Yours?

If it helps any, I was never good at making friends, either. My friends from nursery upwards were people just kinda fell in with and clicked with. Like magic. It was effortless. But when uni happened? I don't think anyone disliked me but fuck, my awkwardness was on full display and I just lost that ability to click.
I'm guessing you were kinda the same?

Dex said...

Actually, the sweets, snacks and desserts sections were the better stocked ones so really I shouldn't complain :)

I think I did hear about the Bountys being removed from Celebrations. I'm sorry! What did they do to the Malteser truffle?! I think they would always be my first choice. Celebrations is one of those chocolate boxes where I really don't mind anything. Maybe the normal Galaxy chocolate as I always find the normal chocolate ones to be slightly boring even though I would happily eat a whole bar! Big question - Celebrations or Heroes?

I never made friends at uni either. Not a single one. I doubt that anyone would even remember me or that I would remember them! I basically spent most of my time at uni in total isolation except for my trips to Starbucks, Waterstones and HMV - I would have happily done that every morning :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, so we were the same person in uni, then?
Except I was in FOPP, squatting in their foreign film section like a pretentious goblin ^-^

Heroes. Always Heroes.
You get Cadbury Caramel and Fudge in there!
I wish you could combine the two, though, because Wispas and Creme Eggs are gross. I'd replace them with all the Snickers :)
Peanut and chocolate is the best combo!
Oh, and the Malteser crime they committed was removing the truffle centre and making it a solid chocolate piece of biscuit bits.
...
CRIMINAL.

Okay, the weather's rebelling. You can't get food, and we're stranded in Blair due to flooding 0_0
The universe clearly doesn't want us to eat.
Rude.

Dex said...

FOPP - you were obviously much cooler than me :)

Oh yeah, I've just had a Malteser one and that's exactly what they've done! Bastards! I know you'll think I'm insane but I would maybe prefer Quality Street to both of them! I would happily have a chocolate selection made up of the soft caramel, the strawberry and orange creams, and the fudge. Also, I think I prefer the Galaxy caramel to the Cadbury caramel! Cadbury Fudge is the amazing though :) I have a feeling our tastes may be very different but that's sometimes a good thing when it comes to sharing chocolate :)

Floods?! I hope you're okay! Does Blair have a proper supermarket?

Louise Boyd said...

We actually have four =/
I don't know why, it's kinda bonkers considering how small we are, but there's Tesco, a recently opened Lidl, a small Sainsbury's, and a Co-op.
I really don't know why we have that many 0_0
We did just get a Starbucks in town. Frappucino's that close? So dangerous *-*

We... would make the perfect chocolate box team!
You can eat all the Galaxy, which I detest, and I'll eat the toffee sticks and coconut things.
We may have to fight over the fudge, though. Both kinds.
Can we agree that Roses taste kinda funny, though?

Dex said...

You just got a Starbucks! I'm very jealous right now! I know your sisters could probably make perfect blueberry muffins at home, but if you ever do get anything from Starbucks, maybe you could try the blueberry muffin and tell me if they are still good :) I always got a caramel hot chocolate and a blueberry muffin when doing my usual HMV/Waterstones browsing :)

I really don't like Roses at all. And Milk Tray have been worthless since they got rid of coffee creams about 25 years ago :)

Louise Boyd said...

Milk Tray have been worthless since they got rid of coffee creams about 25 years ago :)

GET OUT OF MY BRAIN! 0_0
The orange segments? *dry heave*
How could Dairy Milk make such a bad chocolate box?
They're arguably the best chocolate in the UK and they produce that? THAT?!
It's disrespectful, is what it is.
Y'know what's stupid? I miss when chocolate bars came with foil :(

But wouldn't the caramel and chocolate cancel out the blueberry?
Or is just my weird tastebuds that do annoying shit like that?
And I'll have you know, muffins are a consistent baking fail in the Boyd residence. Don't know why but they always tank. And we can never get the sacred muffin top!
How do you eat a muffin?
I scalp it, and eat the top last :)
And if I'm in Starbucks, it's always a double chocolate muffin. Always.

Dex said...

I think I do the opposite with muffins in that I eat the top first. And I usually just tear bits off with my hand rather than going the direct muffin to mouth route! I hope you get a chocolate muffin from Starbucks shortly :)

I never really noticed the cancelling out with the caramel chocolate and blueberry but my sugar palate was much less sophisticated back then :) I bet your sisters have had some muffin successes! What kinds have they tried to make?

The thing is, for maybe the first 8 years of my life, I was brought up to believe that Milk Tray was the height of fancy chocolate! And I miss the foil too! Do you think we sound quite old? :)

Louise Boyd said...

We sound like millennials. Which isn't old, it's just older than Gen Z.
That's how I bargain with myself :)
Plus, foil's just... good?
Shiny, crinkly, maleable.
One of the most satisfying thing's ever is eating a Tunnack's Teacake and then perfectly smoothing out its foil wrapper.
And I was convinced the Crystal Maze's dome was full of KitKat wrappers ^-^
I loved that show so much, especially the Aztec Zone. Logically it should've been the Medieval Zone because, well, me, but nah, I was all about the sand.

Dex said...

I would love if we could spend time in the Crystal Maze. Not running around with a team, or risk being locked in a room, but just quietly going around by ourselves and occasionally doing the puzzles. Also, I love that you think they were KitKit wrappers in the dome :)

I didn't even realise we were millennials until about a year ago. I thought they were much younger, which probably means I have the mentality of a 60 year old :)

Do you still do that to the foil on the Teacakes? :)

Louise Boyd said...

Every time. Even if I don't have any other smooth surface than my arm/thigh. The Teacake foil must be made perfectly smooth!
Do you not do this?!

While we leisurely peruse the maze's many zones, would we perhaps eat KitKats so my dream can come true?

Dex said...

Never! I would seem like such a barbarian to you, scrunching up my foil wrappers!

We could definitely eat KitKats and then go into the dome to try and catch them :) In my head, The Crystal Maze seems like it would be a nice, warm place to lie around in. Hopefully the water is quite warm too :)

Did you have any other favourite game shows when growing up?

Louise Boyd said...

Scrunchers. You're all monsters. No respect for the blessed foil.
Did you even run your nail down the centre of a KitKat to open it before they went and ruined it by repositioning the foil?
Or make a triangle with an empty crisp packet?!

...
You're gonna treat the Crystal Maze like a spa, aren't you?
Lounge around in Aztec pools, flip pancakes on Medieval stoves!
Despicable and genius.

I honestly can't name any of the gameshows I loved as a kid, only describe them. For example, the one where you ended up in a giant bowl of cereal, using giant cheerios as floaties so you didn't drown in a giant vat of milk.
Or the one that had a Alice in Wonderland-esque castle setting, and muppet-like royals heckled you from the turrets while so you... I think solved riddles, but I can't remember.
My memory is fucking useless >_<

Dex said...

Yes, that is exactly what I would do in the Crystal Maze :) I don't remember the Alice in Wonderland / Muppets game show at all but I wish I did! The one with the giant bowl of cereal, the closest thing I remember is Incredible Games which had a round where the contestants swam around in alphabet soup - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incredible_Games

I never did any of the those things with my food wrappers! It must have been my lack of imagination! So, would you run your nail down the centre of the kitkat and then snap?

Louise Boyd said...

Exactly! So when you snapped it in half, it would open perfectly.
I can't believe you did none of these things. I don't even remember anyone teaching me, it was just kinda... done.
You must've done something? Not even folded Opal Fruit wrappers into tiny little squares to see how small they could get?

I have vague memories of Incredible Games but I think I've blocked most of it out because of Walliams.
I hate that guy =/
Did you watch Art Attack?

Dex said...

I may have done the small square folding but I couldn't swear to it!

I did watch Art Attack! The presenter also did Finders Keepers, a gameshow where kids were tear apart rooms in a house to look for things :)

I've had a terrible day, Lilliputty. Accidentally reversed the car into a wall and scraped it. I'm such a useless fucking idiot.

Louise Boyd said...

Hey! Don't talk about my best friend like that! He's the bees knees, the bomb, he fucking slaps!
It's the wall's fault, coming out of nowhere, being all immovable and textured.
I curse that wall.
I curse it to stony hell.
...
:)
Personally, I've no experience with this stuff but oh boy, the number of times I've seen my sisters and parents do shit like this.
Sarah accidentally rear-ended our grandfather's car and we could never figure out how it happened!
Em drove into a lamppost. And the rentals got the door stuck in a fence. In our driveway 0_0
So, if you're an idiot, they're idiots, too :)
Are you alright, though?
Did you use the trauma as an excuse to consume something sweet? They're always doing that on tv for shock, so it must be true ^-^

Ps. Finders Keepers was awesome!
For some reason it's always the kitchen that sticks in my brain. I loved all those drawers *-*

Dex said...

You always know how to make me feel better. Not that reading about your family's driving misfortunes should cheer me up :) And I did go home and have a cup of tea with 3 sugars :) My parents have been nice about it. I mean, I don't think they will let me forget, but at least they weren't angry. They really should have been given how stupid I am!

I reckon we would be an amazing team at tearing the Finders Keepers house apart :)

Louise Boyd said...

I have every faith you'd be exemplary at tearing the Finders Keepers house apart, but I would be a disaster.
I'd probably just find a cupboard to nest down in 0_0

All our talk of muffins must have permeated the universe because Sarah made nutmeg cinnamon ones and they're delicious!
I also think this is a sign from the universe that it knows you've been traumatised by a wall and parents are the unpredictable worst and you need cake. You gotta go get cake, Dexterous. It makes everything better!

Dex said...

I'm sure Sarah's nutmeg cinnamon muffins would have helped to numb the pain and humiliation of my terrible driving :) I take it they turned out perfectly!

My mum did take the car to the garage this morning. They can fix it once they've ordered the paint but it'll be quite expensive so I suppose I'll just have to be poor this Christmas!

Actually, I'm terrible under pressure so I think I'd prefer to sleep in a cupboard as well :)

Louise Boyd said...

Hmm, in that case, I command you to do nothing stupid present-wise this Christmas. In fact, you aren't allowed to send me anything! It's decreed, and I absolutely have the power to do that ^-^
...
Car's are bullshit. Handy, but bullshit.

Perhaps, instead of a cupboard, you could barricade yourself in the kitchen, and I'll barricade myself in the library, then a tunnel will be dug between the two and we shall live as mole people ^-^

Dex said...

Why do you have to be so lovely and understanding? It just makes me want to buy you presents :) I'll have to send you something, even if it is only sugar! And I decree that you aren't allowed to send me anything either... well, unless it is very, very small :)

Living like mole people does not sound like the worst thing to me :) I always think you deserve one of those very big libraries, like they have in country estates, where you can retire to every night after supper :)

Louise Boyd said...

Okay, it's agreed, this Christmas it'll be an exchange of sugar!
I love presents you can put in your belly ^-^

I've always thought I deserved a grand library, as well! With fainting couches and window seats, perhaps a toaster and a kettle set up in a corner so I only need to leave to pee. And a surround sound system that'll play soothing instrumental music to soundtrack my reading: dreampop, piano, Sigur Rós, etc. And it'll instinctively know what mood I'm in or what would go best with the story I'm reading.
Fuck, if only I was a tech wizard who could make that real >_<
And of course I'd make a Dex corner, full of detective stories, comfy pillows and a dessert fridge :)

Dex said...

I already love my corner. And you would be welcome to visit anytime and help yourself to the dessert fridge :)

I was watching an Agatha Christie episode and there was a library that looked perfect for us. It also had big windows looking onto the garden. Do you normally listen to music when you're reading in your bedroom?

I do love getting sugar for Christmas :)

Louise Boyd said...

The only time I listen to music is when something loud is going on in the house and I need the distraction.
But it has to be instrumental. People who can read and hear other words without getting confused are superhuman; Sarah can read with the tv on and I genuinely think she's a mutant 0_0

I thought of another feature for the library!: it must always be bad weather outside.
Rain, snow, sleet, doesn't matter - that can be mood dependent, too - but it has to be bad so there's no urge to go outside.
Reading during stormy nights is my favourite way to read *-*

I am starting to think... that you're a secret mystery fan.
Is it only old timey mysteries? Or do any contemporaries get through?

Dex said...

I always like learning about your reading habits :) I don't think I could do what Sarah does! She's definitely a mutant! I always have to focus on one thing at a time if I'm to take anything in. Do you like having background music or tv when you're doing other things besides reading?

In the episode, it was a stormy night! Two of the characters were just watching the wind and rain from the library and I thought that could be us, except we would be sitting in comfy chairs with hot drinks :)

Kerry is a big Agatha Christie fan so I've read a few books and I've watched a few episodes with her. I basically like to spend time with her so I'll take an interest in most things she likes! And I did read 8 of the Campion books, but that was just because I wanted to :)

I really need someone like you around to stop me being such an old person when it comes to my entertainment choices :)

Louise Boyd said...

I basically like to spend time with her so I'll take an interest in most things she likes!

Dear lord, it's like you were written by a woman!
I hope Kerry knows how lucky she is, most guys are usually trying to force what they like on their partners, instead of the other way around >_<
And I don't know, you and Kerry both seem to have old people taste, not sure I should fuck with that.
Mysteries are fun, though. It's the one thing I reckon the BBC actually get right.
And basically all Urban Fantasy is a grumpy detective solving a murdery puzzle :)

Ps. The only time I choose silence is if I'm reading, have a migraine, or feel overwhelmed by sound, otherwise I'm all about the aural and visual distractions. This brain can't be left alone with its thoughts! That way leads madness... or more madness ^-^

Dex said...

Well, I've always been very jealous of your capacity to consume aural and visual distractions :)

You always make me feel better about myself :) Kerry has gone ahead and booked us a holiday house for a few days at the end of the year. It's still in Shetland but we thought it might be nice to get away from everyone and be on our own for a little while.

She is slightly less of an old person than me :) At least she watches a lot of tv. I really do think the two of you would get on. Did I tell you she has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of Supernatural and Teen Wolf? :)

If I ever do read something contemporary, I reckon Urban Fantasy is the way to go :)

Louise Boyd said...

So, New Year's will be spent away from the madness and somewhere vaguely secluded with the girl you're super into.
...
Are you living a Rom-Com, Dexterous?
Or is this just normal couple behaviour? I never reached this stage!

...she has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of Supernatural and Teen Wolf? :)

That's my kinda woman. I wonder if she's as nervous as I am about the new season of TW >_<
Thoughts on Buffy?

Dex said...

You mean playing board games and watching tv then passing out half drunk before it even gets to midnight? :)

She likes Buffy as well and her knowledge of that is pretty good too! She's also ridiculously good at trivia and can recognise almost any song from the 90/00s. However, she doesn't do science fiction at all!

Louise Boyd said...

Okay, so I love her, I'd totally have her on my quiz team, but no Sci-Fi at all?
It's not my genre of choice either, but not even Firefly?! 0_0

You mean playing board games and watching tv then passing out half drunk before it even gets to midnight? :)

So... the perfect relationship?
But wait a minute, I thought you didn't drink, Dexterous?
Did I imagine that?

Dex said...

I don't think she's even seen Firefly! Still, if anyone is to be judged for not having seen things, you know that person would be me :)

No, I don't really drink. You remember correctly, as usual :) I've occasionally started having fruit cider with plenty of ice as it really doesn't taste much of alcohol! And I'll occasionally like to try a fancy cocktail, again with plenty of ice! I think even small amounts of alcohol make me sleepy :)

Do you ever have alcohol these days? Or if you did used to drink, what did you like to have?

Louise Boyd said...

You don't need judged for not seeing things, Dexterous, you just need forced to do it, and I'm happy to take that job :)
But you gotta get Kerry to see Firefly It's so sci-fi-lite that it's basically fantasy!
Plusssss, no one in the world should miss out on Kaylee, she's too precious not to be seen >_<
Opinion? IF they ever rebooted, they'd have to resurrect Wash somehow, right?

Nah, I still don't drink 'cause it tastes like hairspray or rubbing alcohol, but fruit ciders are kinda nice. Raspberry would be my flavour of choice, and if a cocktail basically tastes of sugar and no alcohol, I'll scoop that back and then vomit horribly ^-^
Fruity cocktails are pure evil 0_0
I guess we pretty much treat alcohol the same way: like children :)
You should, if you get the chance, try a White Russian. They're even better if you ask for them without the vodka :D

Dex said...

I wish you lived close by so we could visit each other and watch things. Obviously, snacks and drinks would also be involved :)

They should just say the film doesn't count! As far as I'm concerned, the Firefly crew are still all together having adventures!

Really, cocktails are better the closer they are to resembling a dessert :) So what is in a vodkaless White Russian?!

Louise Boyd said...

A vodkaless White Russian is milk/cream and Kahlúa, a rum and coffee liqueur.
It's basically alcohol free, defeats the entire point of a White Russian but fuck it tastes nice. I've actually ordered it in bars and felt zero shame when the bartenders give me pitying looks ^-^
I think I found our perfect cocktail:

A Frozen Mudslide

There's ice cream and chocolate coffee and a bit of booze.
I could die that way. That'd be fun?

But I like Serenityyyy! The last battle when River does all her crazy ballet moves is insane!
I just need to stop the movie before the impaling happens =/
I dislike Joss Whedon in general (why must my favourite things be made by terrible people?) but his habit of killing off characters in the final moments for no good reason really pisses me off.
Anya in Buffy? Instead of Andrew? ANDREW?! That hurt as much as Wash, maybe more. I loved Anya :(

Ps. It's a cruel joke the universe played when it didn't make us next door neighbours. We could've been so antisocial together >_<

Dex said...

I liked Serenity but it wasn't quite Firefly. Firefly was about that group of characters developing together, while in Serenity they had already developed. I don't even know if that makes sense anywhere except my own head :) Can we just pretend it took place in an alternative reality?

This is a terrible thing to admit but I never got past season 2 of Buffy! I should have at least watched season 3!

Being antisocial together while making Frozen Mudslides and vodkaless White Russians would be an excellent way to spend our time!

Louise Boyd said...

But.. but... Serenity finished everything off! It gave us some closure, and a horrible, unnecessary death, but closure!
And Chiwetel Ejiofor was such a badass villain. Cool, calm, scary as fuck, had insane flirt-chemistry with Nathan Fillion. He was perfect >_<
You're killing my brain, Dex. And you haven't even seen arguably the best season of Buffy?!
My heart... it hurts... x_x

Dex said...

I do love listening to your opinions :) No matter what I start off thinking, I always come to the conclusion that you are right :)

One of these days, you'll have to make me sit down and watch the rest of Buffy with you :) All I know about season 3 is that it is the one with the mayor.
Did you do your Buffy re-watch this year?

Louise Boyd said...

The Mayor, the best villain in the whole series, everyone's favourite murder dad.
He is beloved and they never trounced his greatness.
It weirds me out so much when I see him being a regular guy in other things >_<
I'd totally watch it with you, and I wouldn't be a total nightmare through it. I hate when you're watching something with someone who's already seen it and they prematurely point out things.
...
JUST LET ME WATCH MY STORIES IN PEACE, DAMMIT *-*

I've yet to do the rewatch this year, though. Kinda got out of the way of it, mostly because there's so many other things to watch and I can't keep up x_x
Watching season 4 of WWDitS right now, though. I love those vampire muppet babies :)

Dex said...

I hope WWDitS season 4 is as good as the first 3!

Thank you :) I also think it's quite difficult the other way around, watching something you love with someone who hasn't seen it before. Because you are wondering how they will react and you want them to love it as much as you :)

You always do find some many tv shows to watch, and books to read, I'm not surprised that any re-watches get missed! Do you ever re-read books these days or are there too many new books that you want to read instead?!

Louise Boyd said...

I'm desperate to re-read the ACoTaR series, have been since I finished but I go to do it and all the unread books in my room glare at me and I can't do it >_<
Don't surround yourself with books, Dexterous, they're master manipulators.
I know you feel kinda trapped by rewatching stuff all the time but I'm kind of envious. As much as I crave new things, sometimes I wish I'd just calm the fuck down and not worry so much about my TBR/TBW x_x

Did you finish The Good Place yet?

Dex said...

I did finish The Good Place! When Chidi decided to leave Eleanor... Kerry has now got me watching New Girl. I think Winston is my favourite!

I think the only way things sink into my brain is if I re-watch or re-read them multiple times! Things just seem to make a much bigger impression on you than they do on me, so you remember them a lot better and can even write about them in your monthlies! I really envy that! The other day I forgot the plot of a book I read about 2 weeks ago...

Still, I think you should do a re-read of ACoTaR :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh god, the wave analogy... it doesn't matter how many times I watch it, I still sob like an idiot.
And Jason waitinggggggg >_< I love that idiot so much.

You are absolute right to have Winston as your favourite. I love them all (Jess, not so much in later seasons), but Winston just a pure and simple soul who needs protected at all costs.
Whenever he teams up with any of the other characters to cause mayhem, it's always fucking delightful.
And Furgusonnnn! I don't know if you've met them yet, but it's... you'll get it when you see it. Or maybe you already have, I don't know what season you're on!

Ask me the plot of any book. I promise you, I'll not be able to give you a coherent answer. Doesn't matter if I just read it (I feel your brain pain), I can't blurb for shit and I forget so much x_x I have to write reviews immediately after finishing something and even then, it's a struggle!
But I always reckon its the feelings you have in lieu of the ability to remember an entire plot that matters :)
At least that's how I comfort my baseless bucket brain ^-^

Dex said...

I don't know if I could walk through that door in the forest...

I have met Furgusson. Kerry specifically made me watch a few episodes of a later season just so I could meet him :) But we've now gone back to season 1.

Well, you certainly communicate your feelings perfectly about the books you have read when you are posting your monthlies!

Louise Boyd said...

Kerry specifically made me watch a few episodes of a later season just so I could meet him :)

Genius 0_0
That's exactly how the show should be watched.

I'd never walk through that door. Fuck no. Not when I could have a never-ending library like Chidi 0_0
Fun fact: All the frozen yoghurt? Mashed potato :)

Dex said...

Mashed potato instead of frozen yoghurt! I would not have been a happy cast member! :)

Well, if you're not walking through the door, then I'm not either. There are still so many things you need to introduce me to! :)

Louise Boyd said...

If it was hot mashed potato? No bother, I could handle the shit out of that.
But cold? *vigorous head shaking* Very yuck. So much yuck.
But I think Eleanor eating the shrimp and white chocolate was the worst *-*

Dex said...

I don't think I've ever had proper mashed potatoes! We used to get it at school but I'm assuming that was the powdered stuff! I have seen people make it on tv shows and I think it's something I could enjoy! Did you ever have it at home?

What are your feelings on shellfish? I don't mind it but we never have it at home as my mother is extremely allergic and my dad just doesn't like it.

Louise Boyd said...

I'm not sure we'd survive without mashed potato 0_0
We don't make it as much as we used to but it's practically a staple, and Sarah's favourite way to eat ground rocks.
I generally hate any other mash than homemade =/
All I want to do now is force-feed you it so you can become part potato like the rest of us!

Shellfish? I'm really not a seafood kinda person. It has to be deep fried for me to even consider it.
*has the tastebuds of a child*
I'm still haunted by the fact I ate deep fried squid on holiday once 0_0 I don't know what the fuck possessed me.
I suppose living next to sea means there's a lot of fish in the Lerwick diet?
Or is that just situational supposition?
Like saying because I live in a town I only eat rogue hedgehogs? :)
Spiky and delicious.

Dex said...

I had a very similar experience involving deep fried squid while on holiday so I fully empathise :) I wouldn't say there's a huge variety of fish in our diets but haddock is a big one! All the fish and chip shops in Lerwick use it and it's a staple at restaurants. Fortunately, I quite like it although I probably would order something else when going out since we have it so much that it can get quite boring :) Probably my favourite way to have it is from the fish and chip shop. There, so now you know my feelings on haddock :)

I don't suppose you are able to share some secrets about what makes good mashed potatoes? :) Do you add butter and cream? If you're not having it so much at the moment, do you have other frequent potato dishes?

Louise Boyd said...

I mean, it's important to know everyone's thoughts on haddock?
:)
I've truly never had a decent fish supper (do you call it that?), they're always so greasy and the only part I really like is the (hopefully) crunchy batter on the fish, but it's rarely that crunchy >_<
I have heard tell of a decent F+C shop in Anstruther, but it's over an hour away and that's too lonnngggg.
I'd be eating the upholstery before we got there 0_0

The secret to not just good but fucking outstanding mashed potatoes:

BUTTER.
So much butter.
And milk, or cream if you're feeling decadent.
And nutmeg.
And don't whip it.
It must have natural lumps :)

I've never made it, but I have peeled spuds for it, chopped them, and then not been able to mash them because I lack the arm strength x_x
Can't cream butter, either.
So weak. Like a child.

Dex said...

Yes, I would call it a fish supper too :) And I agree about the grease! But we've gone to the same shop for years and it's usually okay. It called The Fort because it's just below Fort Charlotte. For some reason, Lerwick has a fort with a cannon!

I would never have guessed nutmeg in mashed potatoes! I take it that the consistency shouldn't be too smooth? I'm sure if we are in a kitchen together, you can do the peeling and chopping, and I will try to mash! Or we can do it all together. I'm sure our combined arm strength might just be enough!

Louise Boyd said...

Um, surely to defend against pirates?
Or pillaging vikings?
Probably the vikings.
Do they deep fry absurd things like Mars Bars and Twix in The Fort? They do here =/ I've never been brave enough to try.
Deep fried pizza, though? That was a childhood staple. I'm shocked I'm still alive 0_0 and if I tried to eat one now... death, for sure x_x

Idea: we both have a masher and make it a combined effort?!
There'll be potato everywhere but I reckon we could do it.

Dex said...

I've never had one either but I'm sure you can get a deep fried Mars Bar here. The thought of one is just too much! The pizzas in the fish and chip shop probably were deep fried! Why did I never realise that?! I just thought there were normal pizzas!

I have a feeling we'd just end up duelling each other with our mashers! :) Another thing we can do together is buy a deep fried Mars Bar. Maybe if we have half each, we might be able to eat one!

Louise Boyd said...

Deal, but I think we should bring barf buckets just in case.
Oh, and there must be a fizzy drink.
I can't eat anything from a chip shop without an ice cold can of Irn Bru or Fanta.
There's a Mike Leigh movie where a very depressed family eats theirs with a cup of tea and it blew my mind.
I'd never drink tea with dinner, no matter what kind! *-*

Ps. Were the pizzas folded in half like a calzone? Ours were. I'd pick the whole thing up and eat it like a sandwich :)

Dex said...

Irn bru or Fanta. I'm not sure if I knew your fizzy drink preferences before. I'm always glad to learn your preferences :) Obviously I'm very boring and would go for normal coke!

I don't remember them being folded in half. But I'm guessing you could do it yourself if you really wanted to :) Do you ever have calzones at home? I've never tried one but I'm very curious to know what they are like!

I do sometimes have a cup of tea right after dinner so I'm probably just as weird :) Or maybe it's like someone having after dinner coffee at a fancy restaurant :) Do you have a specific time of the day that you like a cup of tea?

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, that's only my chippy drink preference.
Just for drinking it's absolutely Coke but really, really cold.
Or Dr Pepper, or Orange Lucozade, or Lilt! I lovveeeee Lilt. Tropical lemonade, yum, yum, yum.
I can't drink a lot of fizzy things, though because they hurt my stomach :(

Tea is a perfectly normal after dinner drink. I used to do it but I started to feel waterlogged ^-^
It's tea with the dinner that's bizarre.
But I don't even like eating biscuits with sweet tea. I don't see the point, the sweetness from the biscuit completely cancel out the tea. Pointless!
What's you tea order? Lots of sugar, no doubt :)

I've had a tiny calzone! It was nice! But very dangerous (so hot!) and I'd rather have pizza. Pizza's perfect, why fuck with it?

Dex said...

Hi Lilliputty. I'm sorry for the really late message. It has been a very hectic day. Mother's retirement party and Freya arrived off the boat this morning. I'm exhausted :) I promise I'll give you full details tomorrow (or today since it is after midnight).

I make my tea with a large splash of whole milk and two sugars. And tea strength is very much in the middle :) How do you make yours?

I never knew Lilt was tropical lemonade! I can't even remember if I've even had it. I always went for more familiar fizzy drinks :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh! How did it go? Did you squish the stuffing out Freya and hide under tables together?
I'm going to need all the Freya details, I'm sure your mum's party was excellent (for the extroverts) but sorry, Freya is the most important factor :)

*stores tea order for future reference*
You're going to think I'm pretentious, but it's honestly just because I like how it tastes! ... I drink passionfruit green tea -_-
Black tea makes my mouth so dry x_x

Thoughts on Cherry Coke?

Dex said...

Well, I had to spend the whole day yesterday looking after Freya as my mum and her mum were busy preparing for the party. She spent most of the time trying to attack me (she says she's training me to fight) and drawing pictures of animals. You had actually given me some colouring pencils a few years ago so I let her borrow those to use so thank you for being an excellent gift giver :) She was also amazed that my best friend had a talented sister who could make a No Face :)

At the party, she was going around all the tables telling people about things she had learned in school or bringing back dessert to the table. Or dancing on her own during the Shetland dances. She's definitely not a social introvert like me :)

There are so many other Freya details that I will get around to telling you but I'm still exhausted :)

I don't think you're pretentious at all, I think you just know what you like :) I'll keep a note of your tea order too :) I haven't tried many fancy teas so maybe I would have a different favourite if I tried more kinds!

I don't know if I've actually had Cherry Coke! Is it any good? I used to quite like Vanilla Coke but I'm not sure if they still make that.

Louise Boyd said...

Oh god, does she battle charge and punch you with her tiny fists? >_<
And what animals is she drawing? Jungle? Farm? Imaginary?! Need to know. Must know.
And what exactly does a shetland dance look like...?
Ps. I have zero memory of buying you coloured pencils 0_0 I'm so bad at remembering presents I've gotten people :D

You like trash coke :)
That makes me so happy, even though it's disgusting :):):)
And Cherry coke is just coke with a synthetic cherry candy flavour to it. Like Dr. Pepper but more on the sickly sweet side, rather than the wtf flavour am I drinking side.
It's horrendous and amazing.

MORE FREYA FACTS, PLEASE!

Dex said...

We have all these wildlife books on shelves around the house so she has been taking them down and trying to copy the pictures inside :) I haven't seen her much today as I was at work, but she was still trying to punch me with her tiny fists this evening when I got home. I don't know why she only does it with me! Between that and calling me a cupcake, I'm not entirely sure what she thinks of me :)

She did fairly exhaust me this evening so we put on some ballet as she likes dancing and that seemed to keep her distracted for a little while until her mum got home :)

Shetland dancing is really just like traditional Scottish dancing, I think. I'm not quite sure what kind of dancing Freya was doing :)

I will definitely keep a look out for cherry coke. You know I like horrendous and amazing :) Also, thank you so much for the present! It arrived today. You really are my best friend and I hope you get yours in time! The delivery estimate was Wednesday...

Louise Boyd said...

Don't you just fucking love the way kids do things?
No hesitation, no fear, just... I wanna dance weirdly - done! I wanna draw some animals - hand me the coloured pencils (and it brings me much joy that Freya's using the pack I sent you)! I want to go tiny fisted tyrant on my Uncle - prepare to suffer, cupcake! ← You're such a cupcake :D
I think she needs a new moniker: Faerie Queen Freya the Fearless ^-^

Yasss, it arrived!
Hope you enjoy it, Fungus :)
And if mine doesn't show up on time, don't worry about it, I'm already missing a present each for the siblings and they're missing most of mine.
I'm all for the postal strikes but wow, they really fucked things up for us greedy consumers :D

Dex said...

My mum had another party at the nursery today with the children as it was her last day so Freya went to that. And then she went to see Matilda at the cinema. So she has been very quiet this evening since she is tired, and has already gone to bed. I suppose it does mean I get to recover my strength as I'm not being beat up :) And they are here until boxing day.

Just so you know how amazing a present giver you are, she also loves the Mario lamp. She keeps coming into my room, plugging it in, switching off the main light, and turning the lamp on and off :)

As you can maybe tell from the above, I'm 100% certain that I will enjoy the present you sent me :)

Louise Boyd said...

I was going to ask if she was staying for Christmas!
I can't decide whether she'd a really careful gift opener or a feral ripper *-*
Either, is fucking adorable.
Did you get her something?

So... I thought when I got you the Mario light it would be the greatest gift ever, for you to do laid-back Dex things by its glowy, coin-filled tones.
...
You just improved it by a million.
That's so cuteeee >_<

Ps. I'll tell Em she's impressed by her felting skills, she'll be well chuffed :)

Pps. My gift arrived today! And like a moron, I almost opened it! x_x
Caught myself at the last second and remembered to check the name. Thanks, Dexterous :):):)

Dex said...

Careful gift opener or a feral ripper... I actually don't know! I can picture her being both :) I've just bought her some books because she likes to read. Like all my favourite people :)

I'm guessing you're a feral ripper :)

I love my Mario light. I use it every evening as it is the perfect light for relaxing evening activities :) And the noise is still fun :)

Please tell Emily that. Freya was literally amazed that someone had made it :)

Louise Boyd said...

What books did you get her?!
I wish I'd be a reader at Freya's age, it's exciting now, but as a little person? A whole universe of worlds open up.
I wonder what genre she'll end up liking the most :)

I forgot it made a noise!
Gotta love an interactive homeware ^-^
Does Freya put it on and off for the light or the noise? Or both?!

Dex said...

I did buy her the Winnie The Pooh books as they are the only children's books I know that I can imagine a 5 year old reading. But due to the postal strikes, they haven't turned up yet so I may need to find a back up!

She likes having the lights off and pretending there are ghosts, and then pressing the Mario lamp and being relieved that there are none :) And then she does it several times because she likes the noise :)

I hope all the presents you've bought your family turn up too. And the ones they have bought you!

Louise Boyd said...

Stoppppp ittttttt, noooooooo, that's the cutest thing I've ever heardddddd >_<
I say that every time but its true!
How do you not just pick her up and hold her Simba-style all the time? 0_0

Winnie the Pooh, most excellent choice, Dexterous. Everyone should be welcomed into Hundred Acre Wood when they're little.
For Piglet, of course :) Piglet was always my favourite.
Damn the posties for having morals, there's a little queen who needs talking animals!
What's your backup choice?

Apparently I'm the problem child this Christmas. Both the siblings and the parents are missing presents for me :)
But it's okay, I love late presents ^-^

Dex said...

I've always related to Piglet :) I have no idea what my backup choice will be - I might have to go to the local bookshop tomorrow and have a look!

Today Freya was showing me how to make envelopes and snowflakes, and also dictated a story for me to write down in her book 'The Bat and the Vampire'. She did the illustrations. I know you like to be kept up to date with our activities :)

You've hopefully be opening random presents in between Christmas and New Year :)

The Bat and the Vampire? *-*
What was the storrrryyyy?!
Were they friends? Mortal enemies? Crime solvers?!
Ackkkk she blows my mind. Are all kids like this? Or is this just a Freya thing?
I love that she knows how to make envelopes >_< More than the snowflakes, I don't why!

Maybe you should start her on The Moomins :)
I finally found a place for mine on the shelves, only took me four months but they're all settled, now, and I look at their pretty spines all the time :):):)
Don't think I thanked you enough for them, Dexterous.

Ps. What's your local bookshop called?

Dex said...

They were friends but they fell out. Fortunately, they made up again :) She already has more skills than me :)

I do love buying you presents :) I'm sorry about the lack of them this year. I promise I'll make it up to you. And I always like adding pretty spines to your book shelves :)

It's called the Shetland Times Bookshop. They also publish our local newspaper, also called the Shetland Times. I actually worked at the bookshop when I was in high school. Went there on work experience for a week and then got an after school / weekend job when I turned 16.

Louise Boyd said...

I think Freya might have more skills than everyone on the planet *-*
Did the vampire have a black and red cloak? Or was he a modern bloodsucker?

For some reason, you working in a bookshop feels very right, just where you should be.
Did you organise the books? Re-shelve? Choose the books for display? Drink copious cups of tea? All of the above?!
It all sounds wonderful 0_0
Or if it was terrible, don't tell me, I've always wanted to work in a bookstore, but not a chain.
I love Waterstones, but no. Just... no.

You're never allowed to apologise for lack of presents, Dexterous, you spoil me bloody rotten. And on a year you couldn't send me something, you still did!
Maniac.
Lovable manic.
But still a maniac.
And also I genuinely don't think I can fit any more books in room >_< It's stressing me out. Where are pocket universes when you need them?!

Ps. Merry Christmas Eve, Fungus! :D

Dex said...

It wasn't the most vampirish vampire but a very batlike bat :)

I know but you deserve all the presents. You'll always be my best friend. Thank you so much for the Kinder chocolates! They really are my favourites. And the box was so fancy :D

I don't think it was the kind of bookshop either of us would like to imagine but it was okay :) I just re-stocked shelves, checked orders and worked on the counter. Nothing too strenuous :) I'd prefer a maze of a bookshop that didn't need customers and was basically just the two of us reading and drinking tea :)

You'll be glad to know that Freya got a ton of presents today :D Did I tell you her favourite thing is unicorns?

Is there any way you'll be able to have more space for your books?!

Louise Boyd said...

Merry Christmas, Dexterous, even though it's technically Boxing Day! :)
Thank you for all the American candy! I could smell the Reese's Pieces before I'd even opened the box :D
And it had a Butterfinger inside! I'll finally know it's multi-wafered secrets.

I think you did tell me Freya loves unicorns, which obviously makes her a very wise girl because they are awesome and I was also obsessed with them as a kid. My mum even painted one on my wall for me :)
Did she get many unicorn-related gifts? And did you figure out your book problem? And how was your Christmas?!
Mine was fairly uneventful, quiet and our usual brand of sleepy with a side of snark.
We're not good at celebrating but I got loadssss of books and I do indeed, have nowhere to put them ^-^
Maybe I should take up carpentry so I can build an annex or something?
Did you get anything good?
And did Freya eat and dance herself into a temporary coma?

Dex said...

I just realised I didn't say Merry Christmas to you! Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day, Lilliputty! Even though I'm worried for your room space, I also know how much you love books so I'm still glad you got some :)

I hope the American candy isn't too disgusting! Or that it's so disgusting, that it crosses back into being amazing :) I've already put some of the Buenos in the fridge, ready for tomorrow!

Freya got quite a few unicorn related gifts, or rather things with pictures of unicorns on them - a diary, a drawing pad, a puzzle game... And the books did arrive on time. I didn't realise there was a card in our postbox saying they had been left in the garage :) I bet she would have loved your mum's painted unicorn :) They have gone away back to Aberdeen on the boat tonight though.

All I really got was chocolate, even some chocolate liqueur to put in my hot chocolate!

'Mine was fairly uneventful, quiet and our usual brand of sleepy with a side of snark.' This actually sounds perfect. I really do think your family is the best!

Louise Boyd said...

A Faerie Queen, sails back away across the sea.
I'm almost positive that's an old folk song.
I bet you miss her wee face already :)
You might have to get her a Mario light at some point, so she can hide from ghosts in her room. Or a unicorn light, like mine! :D
Best gift giver, that's you. Did she like the books?

Are you knackered? I'm bloody knackered.
When it comes to things like seasonal celebrations, I really wish I had the stamina of an extrovert *-*
I'm basically this Sarah Andersen comic in human form:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmb2Es2Mkum/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I can't actually tell if you're introvert. You might be a shy extrovert? Or somewhere in between?
I've never seen you in action, I can't tell!
Categorise yourself for me, Dexterous :)

Ps. Em told me to tell you, that if you ever want something made for Freya, she'd be more than happy to :)

Dex said...

I am sad to see her go but I was also exhausted from the last 10 days :) She seems a lot more interested in the drawing pad and diary for the moment but she was very excited opening all her presents, it was nice to watch :) Also, she was the one to hand out all the presents and it was very funny watching her read a label and realising it was for her. I do keep almost all the presents you have given me in a particular place in my room - it really is the bit of my room I like the most :)

I think I'm an introvert. In any social situation of more than two people (including me), I won't say anything. And there are only 2 or 3 people outside my family that I would ever feel comfortable spending time with on my own. I definitely think I would like hanging out with you. We'd just eat sugar and you could make me watch something :)

And looking at that Sarah Andersen comic, I would say that I find social occasions more draining than revitalising :)

Can we just take Freya to live in Blair so that you and Emily can be her extended family? That's just such a ridiculously kind offer from your sister! She really is the nicest person! I know Freya would love something made by her. Her birthday isn't until September so I'm sure you and I might come up with some ideas by then :)

Louise Boyd said...

she was the one to hand out all the presents and it was very funny watching her read a label and realising it was for her.

Okay, it's official, we would absolutely get on because I did the same thing when I was helping handing out gifts :D
And I bet once she finally gets to reading Winnie and his band of furry friends, she'll love it :)
I couldn't condemn her to living in Blair, though, no way, it's too parochial for a human firework like Freya.
I think a castle in the sky would be too plain.
An Emily creation, however, that's doable. It'd have to be something unicorn-y, surely?
Or does she have a favourite character?

I think us hanging out, it'd have to be a trade off: I force you to watch something, then you reciprocate. I introduce you to a new foodstuff, and vice versa.
We'd keep a tally of success and failures :)

Weird fact: there was a goose in the garden. A Canada goose. Just waddling around in the snow *-*
I haven't seen it yet, but the rentals and Sarah assure me it's out there somewhere.
I hope it's alright!

Dex said...

A Canada goose! Do you think it's lost?! Did any of your family get a photo of it?!

Do you still do presents under the tree? It was something of a tradition in our family that the youngest one hands out the presents so this has been me for most of the last 30 years. It was nice to have a break :)

Thank you Lilliputty, I do hope she likes the books. I didn't know if it was a good idea to buy her something that I liked when I was that age! And I haven't even tried to make her watch a Ghibli film yet! Surely she will like those! Or I can buy her Moomin books like you said :)

I don't know if she has a favourite character yet. I know she would love any kind of unicorn though :) Maybe find out more when I introduce her to Ghibli :)

I wish we had all the time to watch tv shows and eat sugar!

Louise Boyd said...

The RSPCA came and collected the goose today; it had a bad eye and was underweight, so they reckon the poor thing's been having some trouble and probably lost its flock.
Might get taken to a sanctuary but it's not likely :(
I'm not emotionally stable enough for thissssss >_<
It's why I can't watch nature programs unless it's all cute, fluffy babies doing cute, fluffy baby things.

Wait, wait, wait. You've been the only one handing out presents for 30+ years?!
That's child abuse! :D
You should phone Childline, or at least demand compensation in the form of cake :)
With us, it's whoever's groaning the least and gets to the tree first.
Which is normally not me because I can never sleep on Christmas Eve. Just knowing I have to get up super early makes my brain hyper. 3 hours of sleep this year, which is better than last year where I didn't sleep at all *-*
I bet you're really normal and sleep like a bear.
Did she spend any time running around in your dressing gown this visit? And are you bruised after all the violent attacks you've suffered? :)

Ps. Passing on childhood loves is never a bad thing. If I had a small person to educate in the way of awesome, I'd totally be forcing it to read and watch things I love. Or, at least, suggesting. Don't want to be the pushy asshole I am to you, to everyone else ^-^

Dex said...

Lilliputty, I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I would have been just the same! Will they let you know what happens to it? Or maybe it is best not to know!

I have to say that I was rather phoning in the present giving for the last 20+ years :) You are right about my sleep pattern, although it is slightly different since I've been seeing Kerry - she's very much late night and sleep in :) We are going on our New Year getaway tomorrow for 3 nights - if you can call driving about 15 miles a getaway :) I don't know how you function on 3 hours!

Freya spent a lot of time stealing the cord of my dressing gown and wrapping it around things :) She also stole my place at the kitchen table. Basically, if something is mine, she decided she wanted it :)

You're never a pushy asshole. Or, if you are, I like it and wish you were here so you could do more of it :)

Louise Boyd said...

Happy frolicking, Fungus!
I'll say Happy New Year now, just in case :)

Basically, if something is mine, she decided she wanted it :)

I'd take that as a high compliment from her queenliness. You're the chosen one. Her special human :)
The question is... did she make a getaway with anything of yours across the sea? 0_0

Ps. I'll never know about the goose, so I'm choosing to believe she's happily waddling around in a sanctuary somewhere :)

Dex said...

Thank you, Maggot :) I'll have my phone and laptop with me so hopefully won't be completely cut off :)

Freya has asked her mother for an extra pillow that she has named after me which she likes to use for pretend fighting!

I will believe that about the goose too :)

Louise Boyd said...

So... either you're her greatest opponent and she needs to get battle ready, or you're her greatest nemesis and you should really watch your back 0_0
...
I love her.

Dex said...

Happy New Year, Lilliputty. Sorry for the short message!

Louise Boyd said...

Happy New Year, Dexterous :)

Just ate my weight in millionaire's shortbread. Send help.

Dex said...

I'm sorry Lilliputty, if I had known, I definitely would have come and helped you with the millionaire's shortbread :) Was it made by one of the sisters?

Dex said...

Also, I'm very sorry for not being able to message you these last couple of days. I just got back home about an hour ago so I can now tell you about my exciting weekend :)

You'll be glad to know that Kerry and I discovered that we can spend a few days with each other in a confined space and not want to kill each other. We also got slightly lost on the way there and didn't argue. So I'm hoping those are both good signs :) Although she was slightly horrified by the amount of time I spend in the bathroom!

The house was really nice and looked out onto a small marina but we didn't go outside at all! Basically, we just played board games, watched tv and slept for most of the time :) Some of the things we watched: Taskmaster, The Masked Singer (which she enjoys torturing me with), New Girl, Barbarian, Come Dine With Me, Four in a Bed, and you'll be glad to know that she has started me on Angel season 1 and Buffy season 3! And we actually cooked for each other!

Louise Boyd said...

Seems like a stupid thing to hone in on, but... was Barbarian any good?!
It just came up on Disney+ and I'm very intrigued.
And you better be paying attention during Buffy season 3, it's probably the last time the show's any good, so focus all your brain on how awesome it was.
And especially how badass The Mayor is as a villain :)

I'm real glad it all went well, Dexterous. Sounds like a super chill way to spend New Years :)

Ps. I spend 40 minutes in the bathroom at night, and sometimes an hour in the morning =/
We're just weird, fastidiously clean people, I guess! ^-^

Dex said...

I haven't met The Mayor yet but I'm looking forward to him!

Barbarian was actually pretty good. Kerry had seen it in the cinema and one of the actors in the episode of New Girl we were watching was in it (as a completely awful human being) so that made her want to watch it again!

You are definitely my kind of weird person :)

Dex said...

What films did you watch over the holidays? That reminds me, it has been four days and I haven't even read your December monthly! That oversight will be rectified immediately! I'm so sorry for my terrible friendship skills.

Louise Boyd said...

I think seasonal stress finally got the best of my brain and felled me with a two day migraine.
That was fun 0_0

Was it Justin Long in Barbarian? The ugly crier? If it was, I love that you possibly don't know who he is :)
He's in my second favourite Die Hard!
And also, spoilers!
I'm gonna have to watch it now to see why he's the worst, because he's usually playing a nice guy ← an actual nice guy, not the incel version of one, thank fuck.

My movie watching over the holidays wasn't very plentiful, except for the necessary classic: Muppet Christmas Carol.
I've mostly been watching tv: The Witcher: Blood Origins - really good!, first few episodes of House of Dragon - also really good, but I can't believe Matt Smith as a lothario problem child, it just doesn't compute, he's The Doctor, my favourite Doctor!, and the first episode of the new season of Happy Valley - still as epic as ever, I'm even more in love with Sarah Lancashire.
My brain's been too exhausted to try anything too new, lately, but I'm itching for something I can obsess over, and Our Flag Means Death just dropped on the iPlayer and I'm going to absolutely devour it :D
I'm not usually a pirate girl but LGBT+ pirates and Taika Waititi? Uh, YES!
I'll force you to watch it if it's as good as I hope, FYI :)

Ps. Yes, terrible human, read my monthly verbiage and bow down to my superior word vomit! :)

Dex said...

I'm really sorry to hear that, Lilliputty! Did you have to stay in bed with the curtains shut? I hope it is much better now so you can continue with your awesome tv watching. I'd be very happy if you forced me to watch some of those things :)

I know who Justin Long is now :) And yes, he really is the worst in Barbarian! And just when you think he can't get any worse, he does! Is it Die Hard 4 he is in? I've still never seen that!

I love your word vomit :)

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, you should totally watch Die Hard 4!
It's got Timothy Olyphant as the villain, and he's all about the scary eyes 0_0
I mean, nothing can compare to Alan Rickman, the man was a fucking grandiose genius, but I've got a soft spot for Olyphant, and as far as DH villains go, he's pretty cool!
And Justin Long and Brucey have excellent bicker-chemistry :)

*adds Barbarian to watchlist*

Luckily, the migraine was one of those low level ones that doesn't mean dark rooms and total silence, it just kinda lurked horribly and made me feel very disconnected from my own body and very cranky :)
Em had to remove Charlie from my room at one point (I'm the chosen one at the moment) because he was just yowling and shredded part of the book list on my door >_<
He's such a little heathen.
I forgave him today, though, even after he left muddy footprints on my new bedding. With kisses he resented horribly :)

This goes both ways you know, Dexterous, you gotta tell me about awesome things you watch (or Kerry forces you to watch!) so I can feel lovingly bullied as well ^-^
Which reminds me, my dad was in a music shop today (why does music shop feel weird? Are they called something else and I'm forgetting?!) and the woman behind the till was playing the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack.
My dad loved it but he won't stop calling it Beboy Cowbop *-*
I'd never have known to correct him if you hadn't made me watch it!
Quid pro quo, Fungus.
Quid.
Pro.
Quo!

Dex said...

For some reason, I always remember you saying you love Die Hard 4 and Timothy Olyphant as the villain :) I have a horrible confession in that I like Die Hard 3 the best out of original trilogy, even though Jeremy Irons overacts terribly (and isn't a patch on Alan Rickman) and it has a terrible final action scene.

Charlie is so lucky that he can mess up fresh bedding and book lists and still gets covered in kisses which he accepts reluctantly :) I'm really glad you're feeling better though.

Record store, music store, record shop... I have no idea! :S I would maybe call it a record shop but that's only because the local one in the 90s was called Clive's Record Shop! Beboy Cowbop was my big success but I don't think you need too many tv recommendations - you've seen almost everything! :)

Louise Boyd said...

I was feeling better, and then I got king-punched by an optical migraine yesterday afternoon =/
Basically since New Year's Day finished, my body's been in full tantrum mode.
I think the collective stress and anxiety must have built up over the week and finally exploded when it was all over >_<
So far, nothing's gone wrong today but there's still time! *-*
At least there's a Charlie-Bear currently snoring next to me. He made a disgruntled Wookie noise at me earlier when I touched his paw and I wasn't sure he'd forgive me.
So touchy :)

Dexterous... Die Hard 3? Actually, that's fine, all of them are perfectly acceptable choices except for A Good Day to Die Hard.
Truly, truly abysmal.
Not Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skulls abysmal, but not far off x_x
We can agree that the original is a Christmas movie, though, right?

I remembered a movie I watched over Christmas!
Bullet Train.
It was absolutely pointless but really, really fun. Me, Em and the mater were kind of in a bewildered but amused deer in the headlights state throughout it :D
If it appears anywhere for streaming, I highly recommend it. If only for Aaron Taylor Johnson hamming it up.

Dex said...

I actually watched Bullet Train at Mareel on my birthday with Kerry. When I watched it, I did think it was something you would enjoy :)

You know how much I love the original Indiana Jones films so I'm glad we agree that Crystal Skulls is absolutely awful! And of course Die Hard is a Christmas film :)

Charlie must really love you and I bet his cat snores are the best :) I'm really hoping that was the last of your migraines for a while!

Dex said...

I hope you've had a good weekend, Lilliputty. With my mum retired, the rentals have decided to have a long weekend in Sandness so I spent most of it in a quiet house!

Louise Boyd said...

I am in migraine hell, neck pain hell, and jaw pain hell.
Please send a guillotine so I can behead myself 0_0
I wanna be Mombi from Return to Oz.

Dex said...

Lilliputty, I'm so sorry! I'd maybe give you a head, neck and face massage rather than a guillotine! I really don't like the idea of being without you. I don't like it at all!

I've never seen Return to Oz but does Mombi have different heads?!

Louise Boyd said...

I'd maybe
...
MAYBE?!
Although, please no. Offer appreciated but I'd probably slap attack you before I let that happen 0_0

Pain is slightly less today, but I'm still vacillating between quietly screaming and crying.
Bodies are so stupid x_x
You can make it better by finding a way to watch Return to Oz because it's absolute nightmare fodder than must be seen.
And yes, Mombi has several heads, more than one for each day of the week.
She's not the most fucked up thing in the whole movie :)

Dex said...

You would be right to slap attack me! Both for that and for not even having seen the original Wizard of Oz, let alone Return to Oz!

Can you still read when you're feeling like that? I hate to think of you without your books.

Louise Boyd said...

I hate to think of me without my books, too *-*
Though my brain may be on fire, my eyes are still devouring words just as quickly.
...
But if I'm lying down I have to support my neck with a heat pack and try not wriggle. Fun! 0_0
I do feel better today, though *touch wood*.
The neck stuff seems to be a new symptom of when my TMJ's really bad - or at least, that's what I reckon it is - which just sucks because, I don't know if you get much pain (I remember you telling me about back problems when you were a kid?), but neck pain is one of those inescapable aches, the kind of pain that makes you want to scream just for a moment of release x_x
...
Screaming would hurt my jaw, though :D

...
...
...
WAIT.
You have even seen The Wizard of Oz?!
...
HOW?!
0_0
I'm genuinely baffled.

Dex said...

So long as you have your books! I just knew that a migraine wouldn't stop you from reading!

I sometimes get headaches but I don't think they are like anything you experience. I don't know how you get through it. You are definitely a tougher cookie than me! The neck pain sounds awful! But please never stop telling me about these things since I do need to know what you're going through!

There must be some very famous films that you have never seen :)

Dex said...

Also, I hope Charlie has been keeping you company :)

Sorry, I'm not sure if my last message posted.

Louise Boyd said...

Charlie has sort of been keeping me company?
Mostly he tests my bed out, stays for an hour, gets annoyed that I continue to exist, and then buggers off to Sarah's desk to warm his butt on the radiator.
He's charming :)

Third day of feeling okay-ish; keep your fingers crossed for me.

Oh, there's tonnnnssss of famous movies I've never seen, but I've seen basically all of the ones THE REST OF THE PLANET WHO OWN A TELEVISION HAS SEEN 0_0
Dude... we gotta get you educated. How do you ever understand cult references? >_<
Even Captain America knows about flying monkeys!
*enjoys trolling you*

I've been whining a lot, it's your turn. How's Fungus?

Dex said...

Charlie really knows how to enjoy life :)

I'm always keeping my fingers crossed for you. And you haven't been whining at all! If anything, I reckon you've been underplaying how shit you've been feeling! I really don't have much to whine about at the moment :) Kerry got a craving for crisps last night so I took some over and ended up staying the night as she decided to make me watch Taskmaster and a few episodes of The Magicians... I was sure you would approve :)

Well, Thor didn't know the reference so I'm not alone! :D

Louise Boyd said...

Excellent boyfriend behaviour.
Why is bring brought food the best thing? Getting food yourself is pretty cool because you get to choose but being brought something? *chef's kiss*
Do they have the pepperoni Doritos in your Tesco? I'm super intrigued.

You gotta tell me what you think of The Magicians!
It's my comfort show and Amazon Prime lost the rights >_<
Where were you waaaatching it? Or does Kerry magically have the dvds? They're so hard to find!

Ps. Thor's from Asgard, his norse ass doesn't count!

Dex said...

I haven't noticed the pepperoni Doritos in Tesco but I will keep a look out for them now that you've made me aware! :) I hope you've had food brought to you while you've been under the weather lately!

Kerry has the dvd boxset of The Magicians! I had no idea it was hard to find. It sounds like I'm lucky to be able to watch it!

I think you told me once that you and your sisters often speak to each other in pop culture references. I would be so lost :)

Louise Boyd said...

I got it wrong! They're pizza Doritos! Which will include pepperoni but, y'know, gotta be accurate when I send you grocery shopping.
I don't know if they make them anymore, but if you ever see Dorito Collisions Honey Glazed Ribs and Lemon Blast flavour, get them, they're so fucking good!

I didn't even know they'd brought out a boxset for all the series! It's like £100 pounds on amazon -_-
Excuse me while I lurk on eBay for a cheaper option.
You're so lucky >_<
It's such a good series, I love it more than the books and the books are fantastic.
Did I ever send you any of those?
And you'd be totally lost with the siblings and I when we talk, but we'd make you one of us over time :)

Dex said...

I may have been imagining things but I'm sure it was a boxset of the entire series! I don't think you sent me any of those books, although you have sent me plenty of other books :)

I definitely am the kind of person who gets a reference about two days after someone has said it to me :)

I would just love a weekend of films and all those Dorito flavours. Can we do that? :)

Louise Boyd said...

Favourite Magicians character so far, go!
Don't overthink it. Just the first person you vibe with.

I'd love a movie night, but I can't watch a whole movie without Charlie needing attention XD <- I hate this emoticon but nothing else emotes my delight and frustration >_<
He's such a needy little man, especially during the winter.

Dex said...

I bet Charlie would approve of that emoticon :)

I really would have no idea about a favourite character from The Magicians since I've only seen 2 episodes :) Kerry did point out her favourite character. I think it was Margo? Especially from season 3 onwards... Maybe? Sorry, that wasn't a very good answer :) Do you have a favourite character?

Louise Boyd said...

Charlie would hate the cry-laugh emoticon!
He only believes in ones used for manipulation, sulking, and glaring.
My little emo fur-ball :)

I have four favourite characters: Eliot, Margo (excellent choice on Kerry's part, Margo swears beautifully), Quentin, and Julia.
Julia's the character that took me surprise, because I wasn't a big fan in the books, and I wasn't entirely sold at the start of the show but fuck, I'd bleed for that woman.
She is the definition of bad bitch with a heart of fucking gold.
Ugh, just thinking about you getting to watch it is filling me jealous rage >_<
But I'm so happy you finally are! :D
It's definitely a Top Ten watch for me. I'd watch it over Buffy these days *-* Never thought I'd see the day.

Dex said...

Charlie maybe has a secretly affectionate side that he keeps hidden :)

It must be Margo. A character who swears beautifully definitely sounds like they would be her favourite :) She's read the books too. I feel like I'd be totally frozen out if we were all in the same room! I will keep your favourite characters in mind when we watch the next episodes :)

You'd watch it over Buffy?! That is a huge thing for you to say! :) I take it you could watch it online if you wanted?! Do you have Teen Wolf on dvd? That's something Kerry has been looking to buy and can't find easily so maybe she could be jealous of you!

Louise Boyd said...

Well... Sarah was just standing next him while he lounged on my desk and he try to slash her arm off, so... yeah, he's a beast, there are no hidden depths.
But I love his grumpy ass, so it's okay!

I know, I know. Buffy's will always be my OG fantasy show, and I love him immeasurably, but I know it so well now that I need a good decade to just pine for it for a while.
Plus, Fantasy's so good right now, The Magicians being a prime example, and I don't need Buffy to get my fix.
Miss Summers will always be my girl, though <3
But Steven Harrington is my current guy <3<3<3
Yeesh, haven't used the emo-ticon in a while!

I don't have the Teen Wolf dvds! Or maybe I have the first series... not sure! But it's not something I'd invest in now. I fell out of love with it pretty quickly (not Stiles, loveeee Stiles).
Werewolves are a tricky monster to do. It gets kinda repetitive.
I wish Kerry good luck and good fortune on her quest to find the complete series, though!
It sucks when you can't own the thing you love, and especially now with streaming services not releasing their shows on dvd.
It makes me miserable that I might never own a physical copy of Stranger Things or The Witcher :(

Ps. Don't worry, I wouldn't friend-nap your girlfriend in any other situation, but you might have to deal with two nerds watching their favourite stories on occasion :)

Dex said...

Charlie does come and spend time with you on your bed out of choice though :)

I think Stiles is the reason she watches the show :) I still like having dvd box sets but I'm usually okay these days if I can buy something on prime, even if I can watch them on other streaming sites. I just like having things in one place!

You do watch so many shows that I'm surprised you have time for re-watches! You must really love a show if you take time out to re-watch it :)

Dex said...

Have you ever seen a teen comedy from the early 2000s called Get Over It? That was what we watched this weekend :) That and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer!

Louise Boyd said...

Oh, you mean the early noughties classic that I can practically quote verbatim, that helped form my crush on Mila Kunis, and proved that some people just shouldn't do British accents?
That Get Over It?
...
I fucking love that movie.
I generally believe America shouldn't touch Shakespeare with a bargepole, except for these few beloved classics:

10 Things I Hate About You
Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet
Stanley Tucci's A Midsummer Night's Dream
Warm Bodies

My guilt pleasure She's All That
and of course, Get Over It

Sometimes, they get it right.

I've never actually seen I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
In fact, I've never even seen I Know What You Did Last Summer.
